**Chip** (00:00:00:01 - 00:00:05:03):
One of my favorite days was your and My Tiki Tour of New York City.
**Thomas** (00:00:05:04 - 00:00:12:17):
England has a Caribbean quality beach, and those guards and fuzzy hats will only tell you about it if you give them a wet Willie.
**Chip** (00:00:12:17 - 00:00:16:15):
Why would those Netflix cameras be on that ship in the first place?
**Thomas** (00:00:16:17 - 00:00:21:15):
Speaking of Hogwarts, Gordon Ramsay hit Maui's Road to Hana for a sweet treat.
**Chip** (00:00:21:16 - 00:00:25:12):
If today's show was a rash, it would be everywhere.
**Thomas** (00:00:25:13 - 00:00:36:17):
What up burnt ones? This is the sunburn podcast where we talk about comedy and tropical travel. To my right, as always, you know, I'm from Netflix on the series tires and his amazing standup special Move Closer. It's Chip Chantry.
**Chip** (00:00:36:17 - 00:00:47:19):
And over here to my left is Mr. Thomas O'Brien, Emmy Award winning producer, writer, and my pal. Grab a float, put on your earphones and drift away. Grab my tie.
**Thomas** (00:00:47:20 - 00:00:53:02):
Because it's great to be in the tropics with your boys.
**Chip** (00:00:53:04 - 00:00:55:14):
Dude, stop yelling at me. I put my shirt back on, all right?
**Thomas** (00:00:55:14 - 00:00:57:04):
I'm sorry. It scared me.
**Chip** (00:00:57:05 - 00:01:09:15):
Yeah, it's a rash. It should scare you. It's everywhere. It's everywhere on my torso right now. It hurts, it burns, it itches. And I just need to take my shirt off every once in a while to air it out, to give it. That's what the doctor said.
**Thomas** (00:01:09:16 - 00:01:17:17):
I'm sorry I reacted that way. It's just. I care about you so much. And to see that that much pus and so many blisters covering.
**Chip** (00:01:17:18 - 00:01:22:13):
It was hurtful. What you said, Thomas. It was hurtful. Those jokes that you made about that.
**Thomas** (00:01:22:14 - 00:01:29:02):
It's from your nips to your tip. And I got scared and I said some things I shouldn't have, and I'm sorry.
**Chip** (00:01:29:02 - 00:01:33:21):
I don't know that, but it's fine. I put the shirt back on. Let's let's do this.
**Thomas** (00:01:33:23 - 00:01:36:01):
We actually started recording chip.
**Chip** (00:01:36:04 - 00:01:38:10):
Oh, hey. Hey, everybody.
**Thomas** (00:01:38:11 - 00:01:47:07):
What a burnt ones. This is the sunburnt podcast where we talk about comedy and tropical travel. No matter what's going on on our body or in our personal life.
**Chip** (00:01:47:08 - 00:01:49:09):
In our hearts or minds or torsos.
**Thomas** (00:01:49:09 - 00:01:54:00):
You really got works, though. Dude, I am sorry. I'm sorry that that looks uncomfortable.
**Chip** (00:01:54:00 - 00:02:02:14):
It's okay if the doctors say within 6 to 8 weeks, it should start to subside and we'll be feeling good.
**Thomas** (00:02:02:15 - 00:02:04:17):
That's a couple of months there, bud.
**Chip** (00:02:04:18 - 00:02:05:14):
Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:02:05:16 - 00:02:11:21):
The good news. And hopefully this will put you at ease physically. Mentally. We got a great show today, Chip.
**Chip** (00:02:11:22 - 00:02:15:19):
If today's show was a rash it would be everywhere.
**Thomas** (00:02:15:20 - 00:02:17:13):
From nips to taps.
**Chip** (00:02:17:18 - 00:02:19:12):
And that's the type of rash that I like.
**Thomas** (00:02:19:14 - 00:02:27:13):
Yeah. Let me tell you what the tip is. Okay. And then we'll work our way up to the nips. Nips. We always go bottom up.
**Chip** (00:02:27:14 - 00:02:29:06):
We do, we do.
**Thomas** (00:02:29:08 - 00:02:32:04):
It's a sunburnt. Must do.
**Chip** (00:02:32:04 - 00:02:34:06):
I think those are our next T-shirt. Let's go. Bottom up.
**Thomas** (00:02:34:06 - 00:02:44:03):
Let's go bottom up. England has been hiding a Caribbean level super beach. One catch chip. It sometimes disappears. Is this a Harry Potter situation?
**Chip** (00:02:44:09 - 00:02:46:20):
Or at least a bed? Knobs and broomsticks one.
**Thomas** (00:02:46:22 - 00:02:51:19):
Speaking of Hogwarts, Gordon Ramsay hit Maui's Road to Hana for a sweet treat.
**Chip** (00:02:51:20 - 00:02:55:06):
I mean, if anybody needs a sweet treat, it is that man.
**Thomas** (00:02:55:08 - 00:03:00:07):
It really does. He seems a little prickly, but maybe he just has a nips to tips rash.
**Chip** (00:03:00:12 - 00:03:02:06):
You never know. You never know.
**Thomas** (00:03:02:07 - 00:03:06:15):
The Princess of Wales made pasta with the heart of the ocean on her ring finger.
**Chip** (00:03:06:16 - 00:03:07:15):
That sounds big.
**Thomas** (00:03:07:21 - 00:03:15:07):
It is. Lady Gaga's funeral possession passed by the exact Banana Republic. I get my classic black teas at.
**Chip** (00:03:15:07 - 00:03:18:00):
Chip, but Lady Gaga's not dead yet.
**Thomas** (00:03:18:01 - 00:03:22:23):
Or is she? We're keeping a little intrigue alive, Chip. It's a tease story.
**Chip** (00:03:23:00 - 00:03:23:16):
At 11.
**Thomas** (00:03:23:16 - 00:03:29:20):
Disney has acquired the streaming rights to Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits. Very indie chip.
**Chip** (00:03:29:20 - 00:03:34:19):
Really going. Just deep cuts. Goofy and Mickey are gonna be jamming.
**Thomas** (00:03:34:21 - 00:03:47:09):
Yeah, they're wearing a cool guy jean jacket. Maybe some shades, because they love indie music. A man named Beach Bunbury got a job this summer, and it's bringing a whole lot of tiki to the United States.
**Chip** (00:03:47:09 - 00:03:48:14):
Importing that tiki.
**Thomas** (00:03:48:15 - 00:04:12:07):
We love them, I, I here, we love my tie there. We love them I tie everywhere pump up about that. We got Buffett facts fish of the week. And we open the Good Book and the Treble and Paradise hotline is open. You can leave us a voicemail at (310)Β 845-6038. You can tell us stories that you want to share with the podcast about a harrowing trip.
**Chip** (00:04:12:10 - 00:04:17:07):
A crazy vacation, a funny vacation, an embarrassing moment on a vacation.
**Thomas** (00:04:17:07 - 00:04:34:13):
Let us know we want to hear about it. We love vacations. We love these stories. And with that man, it is time for an old fashioned slather chip. We got to get ourselves in the right headspace. And I know you've been doing this at home. You told me you're getting close to triple digits out there in.
**Chip** (00:04:34:17 - 00:04:52:10):
Triple digits, almost in Philadelphia. It was the high 90s yesterday. I'm in shorts for the first time. I bet the the viewers are really enjoying that. Oh yeah. And it is. It's going back up to the 90s today. So I'm slathering that on and it's feeling good. I'm in the summer mode.
**Thomas** (00:04:52:11 - 00:05:02:13):
It's summer mode here on the sunburn podcast where we talk about comedy and tropical travel. If you think those two things should go together, stay tuned.
**Chip** (00:05:02:15 - 00:05:06:22):
Front desk. Hi, this is Mr. Chantry in room 308. Could I order some room service?
**Thomas** (00:05:06:23 - 00:05:08:14):
Sure. What can I get for you, Mr. Chantry?
**Chip** (00:05:08:20 - 00:05:12:14):
Give me fuel. Give me fire. Give me that which I desire.
**Thomas** (00:05:12:15 - 00:05:16:00):
Mr. Chantry, please stop quoting the Metallica album. Reload.
00:05:16:01 β 00:05:18:18 UNRESOLVED β Na da da da da da da da.
So how much fuel and fire do you want?
**Chip** (00:05:21:08 - 00:05:23:20):
Jeff Thomas, summertime is here.
**Thomas** (00:05:23:21 - 00:05:34:12):
Summertime is here. Episode 62 of the sunburnt podcast. Summertime is here. And we're rocking and rolling already, buddy. Memorial day plans. What are you doing, man? It's coming up.
**Chip** (00:05:34:15 - 00:05:50:05):
It's. It's going to be a little rainy and cold in Philadelphia, even though it's sunny and 90 degrees right now. We. I'm doing some shows that I'm going to punch line of Philadelphia doing four shows, and I'm just going to get good to get hot on stage. That's what I'm gonna do.
**Thomas** (00:05:50:05 - 00:05:50:15):
You got.
**Chip** (00:05:50:15 - 00:05:53:04):
To catch some rays from those stage lights.
**Thomas** (00:05:53:04 - 00:05:55:00):
Punch line. Great venue.
**Chip** (00:05:55:00 - 00:06:00:00):
Great spot. It's going to be fun. Fun for shows. Two Friday to Saturday. How about you, Thomas?
**Thomas** (00:06:00:01 - 00:06:06:11):
Keeping it pretty low key. Going to try and get out to the beach. Pickleball and getting a little pickleball in there that's for sure.
**Chip** (00:06:06:12 - 00:06:24:01):
Would you ever consider starting I'm just throwing it out there. Starting a pickleball league that's a little bit more upscale, maybe fancier, and also more elite for the better players where you have grass courts just like Middleton. Pickleball grass courts.
**Thomas** (00:06:24:02 - 00:06:24:09):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:06:24:10 - 00:06:26:22):
Or even clay courts like the French Open.
**Thomas** (00:06:26:22 - 00:06:31:00):
I do anything that's a more expensive. I think that's the.
**Chip** (00:06:31:02 - 00:06:31:14):
Think that's it. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:06:31:14 - 00:06:33:23):
Because we go bottom up here on the podcast.
**Chip** (00:06:34:01 - 00:06:35:16):
Yeah. We're going to go bottom up with pickleball then.
**Thomas** (00:06:35:16 - 00:06:49:07):
To start at the bottom. Yep. Now we're we're here. So you know yacht pickleball. That also seems interesting to me Jeff Bezos wants to get on board. We can kind of go to space and play a little pickleball.
**Chip** (00:06:49:09 - 00:06:51:18):
That would be be a slower game, but that's okay.
**Thomas** (00:06:51:19 - 00:06:55:11):
Yeah, yeah. I mean, with my reflexes, I think I could use it.
**Chip** (00:06:55:11 - 00:07:14:10):
The yacht pickleball would be rough. You would. You would go through a lot of pickle balls. Yeah, those balls would be going overboard like a lady in a Netflix documentary. Man, if there is a lady and she is in a documentary, there is a 95% chance that she is going overboard on a cruise ship.
**Thomas** (00:07:14:11 - 00:07:24:02):
Yeah. Women, this is a PSA. If you find yourself on a boat and notice a Netflix camera anywhere. It is time to lock it down.
**Chip** (00:07:24:03 - 00:07:25:16):
Batten down those hatches.
**Thomas** (00:07:25:16 - 00:07:28:01):
Also, don't talk to any men. For the love of God.
**Chip** (00:07:28:01 - 00:07:31:14):
Why would those Netflix cameras be on that ship in the first place?
**Thomas** (00:07:31:14 - 00:07:32:11):
Exactly.
**Chip** (00:07:32:12 - 00:07:35:01):
That's my first clue as a detective right there.
**Thomas** (00:07:35:02 - 00:07:37:01):
Stay safe out there, boat ladies.
**Chip** (00:07:37:01 - 00:07:42:12):
Maybe he has a new religion that he started and that you should join. I'm not saying don't do that.
**Thomas** (00:07:42:13 - 00:07:48:12):
Yeah. Always be open to the spiritual. That's another. Another tenet. We've always. We've always subscribed to.
**Chip** (00:07:48:14 - 00:07:51:11):
Absolutely.
**Thomas** (00:07:51:13 - 00:07:55:01):
Well, let's get into it. It's time for for the l go.
**Chip** (00:07:55:02 - 00:07:56:07):
For the algo.
**Thomas** (00:07:56:13 - 00:08:08:17):
A segment where we tell you news stories from around the world. But more importantly than entertaining you and giving you knowledge, we're trying to please the robot overlords who control what you see.
**Chip** (00:08:08:18 - 00:08:12:13):
They're watching and listening right now and we are behaving appropriately.
**Thomas** (00:08:12:14 - 00:08:18:03):
We're very good boys. We're very good ones and zeros. And we're going to get into it, buddy.
**Chip** (00:08:18:04 - 00:08:19:12):
Beep beep boop boop.
**Thomas** (00:08:19:12 - 00:08:28:11):
All right. Getting into it. England has a Caribbean quality beach. And those guards and fuzzy hats will only tell you about it if you give them a wet willy.
**Chip** (00:08:28:11 - 00:08:31:18):
They seem to like that, though. They seem to like the wet willy. Those bobbies.
**Thomas** (00:08:31:18 - 00:08:38:22):
Here's the thing, though. The only tell you about the beach if you give them the British wet willy in like British slang.
**Chip** (00:08:38:23 - 00:08:40:03):
Which is what.
**Thomas** (00:08:40:05 - 00:08:43:17):
I mean. They're Willy's wet by the end, I'll tell you that.
**Chip** (00:08:43:18 - 00:08:46:04):
Yeah, that is true. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:08:46:06 - 00:08:50:01):
So we're just going to tell you about the beach, because we don't want you to have to go through that.
**Chip** (00:08:50:02 - 00:08:53:00):
No, no. Yeah. Let's cut out the middleman.
**Thomas** (00:08:53:04 - 00:08:54:13):
Cut out the man in the fuzzy hat.
**Chip** (00:08:54:14 - 00:08:57:02):
And cut out the Kate Middleton, if you will.
**Thomas** (00:08:57:03 - 00:09:11:03):
Yeah. Yes. Content travelers reporting that PΓ©tain von der beach in Cornwall has turquoise water and white sand. So fine. It's regularly compared to the beaches in Indonesia and the Caribbean.
**Chip** (00:09:11:04 - 00:09:17:13):
It's like somebody just like, moved it up. Like they just picked up the beach, dropped it in England, where no offense doesn't belong.
**Thomas** (00:09:17:14 - 00:09:29:09):
Well, here's my question. If you've been to the Caribbean. Yes. Do you think there's any chance that England really has a beach that rivals those in any serious capacity?
**Chip** (00:09:29:11 - 00:09:57:10):
Yes and no. I feel like I saw some photos. I looked at the article too. It's a beautiful beach, but it's England like. It's got to be cold and rainy. Ten months out of the year, probably. Yeah. So you could go down the Caribbean right now whenever you want. It's warm, it's beautiful. It's fun. I feel like this is just like, you know, it's kind of like the opposite of when you get a sled for Christmas.
**Thomas** (00:09:57:15 - 00:09:58:08):
Yes.
**Chip** (00:09:58:14 - 00:10:10:17):
And then it just doesn't snow that year. Well, I guess I got a sled in the garage. This is the sled of the garage of England. Like, it's a a beautiful beach. Yeah, but it's gonna be chilly. Chilly, chilly.
**Thomas** (00:10:10:17 - 00:10:25:11):
I think that's completely accurate. And it is beautiful. We've seen the pictures. It does have one nice month year. Apparently, June is pretty prime time for this beach, but there's a bunch of other trade offs you're going to have to make.
**Chip** (00:10:25:12 - 00:10:30:12):
Well, first of all, you're going to be missing Wimbledon then. Yeah. Who doesn't want a Nazi? Wimbledon?
**Thomas** (00:10:30:12 - 00:10:44:21):
Do you want to be that close and not see Wimbledon? Come on. Right. So here's the caveat list, Chip. Let's get into it. First downside travel. It takes six hours to drive from London to this beach like it's out there.
**Chip** (00:10:44:21 - 00:10:47:04):
And you have to drive on the other side of the road.
**Thomas** (00:10:47:04 - 00:10:56:14):
Which can be stressful. Yeah. And it's hard to keep your mind in line because everybody knows human beings were designed to drive on the proper side of the road.
**Chip** (00:10:56:15 - 00:10:57:07):
Yes.
**Thomas** (00:10:57:07 - 00:11:14:18):
So you got that going for you. And then once you get there, like you drive six hours, you get to a little town. You're still like a 15, 20 minute walk away from the entryway to the beach. And when you get there, Chip, do you think there's a manicured path or some stairs down to said beach?
**Chip** (00:11:14:20 - 00:11:16:00):
I'm assuming not.
**Thomas** (00:11:16:01 - 00:11:39:12):
There is basically kind of like a cliff ish hellish area that is often wet because it rains there all the time. So it's slippery rocks, and it's advised that you bring a backpack and keep your hands free, because you're going to need your hands to get up and down the access area to the beach. So I mean, like.
**Chip** (00:11:39:13 - 00:11:59:14):
Part of part of me likes that because then it's not just the rubber Necas, the looky loos who are going down there, anybody and their mothers just going down there taking their big, you know, wagon with all their stuff and their tents and their this and that and whatever. It's just it's the true believers that are down there.
**Thomas** (00:11:59:15 - 00:12:02:19):
Also may be truly bleeding like it's a little dangerous.
**Chip** (00:12:02:20 - 00:12:06:05):
That is true. The true believers misstep.
**Thomas** (00:12:06:07 - 00:12:27:20):
The beach is also tidal chip. Do you know what a title beaches? Tell me about it. A title beach is a beach that sometimes disappears depending on the tides, right? So like even like the pictures we saw when this thing is supposed to be at its absolute best, you're just like, it's already pretty narrow. It looks like the water, like the beach is very flat in the water.
Like is is starting for a long ways out, right? And it completely disappears. So you can drive six hours. And if you're not a nautical master who read the tide charts wrong, you'll get there and it'll be like, oh, this is a this is just like a water bashing into some rocks.
**Chip** (00:12:45:05 - 00:12:51:15):
Yeah, that's all you got. And then you just got to turn around six hours back. And by that time it's going to be low tide.
**Thomas** (00:12:51:16 - 00:13:06:08):
Yeah. But by the time you're ready to have a good time on the beach, it's low tide. Here's another thing, chub. This is this is a big caveat for me. There's no shops there. So like if you want to get food, you want to get some water. You forgot some sunscreen.
**Chip** (00:13:06:08 - 00:13:07:17):
You want to play skee ball.
**Thomas** (00:13:07:17 - 00:13:20:17):
You want to. Yeah. There's nothing there. And along with that, even more importantly, there's no bathrooms chip. So like if something hits you and you got to go, you got to figure it out yourself.
**Chip** (00:13:20:19 - 00:13:24:09):
You gotta climb up. You got to climb up some cliffs at the least.
**Thomas** (00:13:24:10 - 00:13:25:18):
If you want to be sweet about it.
**Chip** (00:13:25:18 - 00:13:29:10):
But I will say, if you're a cat, that beach is nothing but a bathroom.
**Thomas** (00:13:29:10 - 00:13:48:15):
That beach is nothing. But I have to say, crystal clear waters a cliff to escape. Yeah, it sounds like a threat. More than a benefit. Can you like? Because if you do need to do something cloaked, at least normally, you can cloak it in seawater. This is just a showcase, Chuck.
**Chip** (00:13:48:16 - 00:13:54:00):
Yeah. Everybody's looking. This is literally a fishbowl, is what this is. Everybody's looking at you.
**Thomas** (00:13:54:02 - 00:14:03:02):
Side note ship pendant vendor has been named worst beach in the world by irritable bowel syndrome Digest.
**Chip** (00:14:03:03 - 00:14:06:19):
Yeah. Not fans. Thumbs down on that beach.
**Thomas** (00:14:06:20 - 00:14:12:16):
No, they need restrooms close in order to feel comfortable. Especially if you've been eating spicy foods.
**Chip** (00:14:12:17 - 00:14:29:03):
Exactly. Little curry you need. You need those bathrooms. Yeah, but. So I think it's a I think it's a it's one of those destination things that it's like only the strong survive. Yeah. You know about it. Secret place I'm kind of all for it. It kind of makes it a little more majestic.
**Thomas** (00:14:29:04 - 00:14:37:05):
100% all for it. If you're in England and you want to get a little bit of a tropical itch scratched, six hours in the car is no problem.
**Chip** (00:14:37:06 - 00:14:38:02):
Yeah, we got it.
**Thomas** (00:14:38:08 - 00:14:43:01):
You go do it. But for me, I just. I don't think you could put it side by side.
**Chip** (00:14:43:05 - 00:14:44:10):
No, no.
**Thomas** (00:14:44:11 - 00:14:54:22):
With the Caribbean. No Hawaii. I think it's I think it's a tough sell. But good job. Whoever is getting whoever is doing PR for this beach. Great job.
**Chip** (00:14:54:23 - 00:14:56:04):
Yeah. Well done.
**Thomas** (00:14:56:05 - 00:15:02:10):
All right, buddy, next story. The best banana bread and Maui 2026.
**Chip** (00:15:02:10 - 00:15:07:11):
We had some been out of bread in Maui in 2025. And let me tell you, I don't know how you could beat it.
**Thomas** (00:15:07:11 - 00:15:32:07):
I really don't. So let's let's dig in. Gordon Ramsay drove Maui's fame Road to Hana to visit a roadside banana bread stand. There's a lot to unpack here, Chip. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you put these factors together? Gordon Ramsay road to Hana, a side of the road eatery. What? Like what? What's what's your instinct telling you this is going to be about.
**Chip** (00:15:32:12 - 00:15:43:15):
It's it it's about how Gordon Ramsay needs to chill the hell out. He's in Hawaii. Yep. I hope he's wearing a nice bright flowered shirt.
**Thomas** (00:15:43:16 - 00:15:46:19):
Yeah. You know, it's tight. He likes to show off that.
**Chip** (00:15:46:20 - 00:16:06:17):
Screaming at some poor lady at a roadside banana bread stand. We don't need any of that. Hawaii's a place for love, peace, just relaxation and hope. Hopefully Gordon Ramsay is in vacation mode there and he's just like, sure, there's a little too much sugar in it. It's fine dear.
**Thomas** (00:16:06:19 - 00:16:08:18):
By all accounts, that's what happened.
**Chip** (00:16:08:19 - 00:16:09:05):
Okay, good.
**Thomas** (00:16:09:08 - 00:16:32:00):
Maybe he's been kissed by the sun. He's relaxed. Maybe some of the gel has fallen out of that. That co-opted man. And he's just, you know, on the road to Hana, zig and zag and ready to have a laid back treat on the side of the road. Right. Hawaii Magazine is reporting that in 2026, reader rank list of the best banana bread on Maui.
Aunt Sandy's roadside stand took the cake.
**Chip** (00:16:36:13 - 00:16:43:11):
You know I love it, aunt Sandy, but I will say, I don't know if I want the word Sandy in my beachside banana bread.
**Thomas** (00:16:43:12 - 00:17:14:02):
Advertisement I think that's true, but this is according to the reader's chip. So, like, they actually went out there, they experienced it and were able to move past that pretty easily. Gordon Ramsay went on a pilgrimage to Sandy's, and dude apparently just loved this banana bread. And yeah, apparently stacked up and like, this is serious. I guess banana bread and baked goods in general are taken very seriously in Maui.
**Chip** (00:17:14:03 - 00:17:20:04):
Well, of course, and I mean just the bananas alone have. I mean, when we had that banana bread at that at that farm. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:17:20:06 - 00:17:21:11):
Great farms in the North.
**Chip** (00:17:21:11 - 00:17:32:09):
Shore, the with the ice cream and like that was after a full bowl of not only Pokeball. But then we started out the day with that with the shape.
**Thomas** (00:17:32:12 - 00:17:33:12):
Of ice.
**Chip** (00:17:33:14 - 00:17:39:13):
And I was like, Thomas, can we even, can I fit anything else in here? And you're like, just give it a give it a minute.
**Thomas** (00:17:39:14 - 00:17:41:08):
I was like, you're gonna fit this. You're gonna fit.
**Chip** (00:17:41:08 - 00:17:49:13):
It in. You said that very loudly and very just angrily at me in front of a crowd full of people. And they didn't know what you were talking about.
**Thomas** (00:17:49:14 - 00:17:51:02):
You eat like this. Now is what I said.
**Chip** (00:17:51:03 - 00:17:52:11):
You eat like this. Like this now.
**Thomas** (00:17:52:15 - 00:17:53:11):
And I pointed at.
**Chip** (00:17:53:11 - 00:17:54:18):
The ball. The H is oh.
**Thomas** (00:17:54:19 - 00:18:00:21):
So not not in this contest. Kahuku Farms banana bread wasn't up for this award. This is just Maui specific.
**Chip** (00:18:00:23 - 00:18:02:04):
Just Maui. Okay, good.
**Thomas** (00:18:02:05 - 00:18:06:19):
Another Hawaiian magazine readers ranked list.
**Chip** (00:18:06:20 - 00:18:11:14):
Love it. I'm going. Next time we're going, we're going to go to Maui. We're gonna get that banana bread.
**Thomas** (00:18:11:15 - 00:18:25:02):
They're out there shaking and bacon that good good banana bread. Hats off to you. That's off to you aren't Sandy. And congratulations from being one of the few chefs that got away with meeting Gordon Ramsay unscathed.
**Chip** (00:18:25:07 - 00:18:29:09):
I had a great Aunt Mary who made amazing banana bread.
**Thomas** (00:18:29:09 - 00:18:30:07):
Really?
**Chip** (00:18:30:09 - 00:18:32:13):
Yeah. And then you know what she did?
**Thomas** (00:18:32:15 - 00:18:33:04):
What she did.
**Chip** (00:18:33:04 - 00:18:34:09):
Chub died.
**Thomas** (00:18:34:11 - 00:18:35:03):
Oh, man.
**Chip** (00:18:35:04 - 00:18:47:09):
She was an old lady. Yeah, but she made some some darn good banana bread. I'm sure it was not nearly as good as the Hawaiian banana bread that I had. Though I will say that upstate Pennsylvania banana bread. Pretty decent.
**Thomas** (00:18:47:09 - 00:18:49:10):
You don't want to look at how the sauce is just made.
**Chip** (00:18:49:11 - 00:18:59:17):
No, because you have to get those. You have to get those bananas overly ripe. They're kind of like old and just like, hey, I was gonna make some banana bread with that. You threw out the old bananas.
**Thomas** (00:18:59:17 - 00:19:06:00):
Yeah, the using brown bananas. Yeah. That's what goes into your favorite sweet treat. Just enjoy the bread. Don't look at how it's made.
**Chip** (00:19:06:01 - 00:19:08:00):
Let aunt Sandy do the dirty work.
**Thomas** (00:19:08:00 - 00:19:10:07):
Speaking of something aunt Sandy would never do.
**Chip** (00:19:10:08 - 00:19:10:19):
Never.
**Thomas** (00:19:10:20 - 00:19:19:05):
Kate Middleton went to Italy. She was taken a cooking class and was photographed kneading pasta dough.
**Chip** (00:19:19:06 - 00:19:23:00):
Not like really, really wanting needing it. That is need.
**Thomas** (00:19:23:02 - 00:19:45:10):
While wearing a $190,000 ring. It was a Princess Diana, her mother in law's engagement ring. Yeah, that is a very high end, low end situation to mix together. Can you imagine getting a little, getting a little flower, getting a little dough stuck in your $190,000 ring chip?
**Chip** (00:19:45:11 - 00:19:48:11):
With this ring, I thee bread. That's all I got to say about.
**Thomas** (00:19:48:11 - 00:19:51:05):
That one.
Yeah, I think that's a classic, a classic concern.
**Chip** (00:19:54:08 - 00:20:06:16):
Hey, man, if people are mad about her wearing that ring while she was kneading that dough, I'm just glad they didn't show footage of her at the sewage treatment plant in Florence. That that would have not gone over well.
**Thomas** (00:20:06:16 - 00:20:19:00):
But it's very nice of her to volunteer, because that is that is a need they have. Like, speaking of like doing kind of low end things, wearing a very high end item.
**Chip** (00:20:19:00 - 00:20:21:16):
You, you used to mow the lawn wearing a tuxedo. Is that right?
**Thomas** (00:20:21:17 - 00:20:31:05):
That's what I'm talking about. What's what's the inverse? I'm like, is it wearing a pair of Costco court classics to a Diddy white party?
**Chip** (00:20:31:06 - 00:20:35:12):
Is it wearing a pair of Crocs out in public ever?
**Thomas** (00:20:35:18 - 00:20:36:08):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:20:36:10 - 00:20:39:06):
You know what I mean. Low and high end. Thanks.
**Thomas** (00:20:39:08 - 00:20:51:19):
We're just saying the juxtaposition is interesting. If you think this doesn't belong in the center. Podcast. The Princess of Wales wearing a ring to make pasta dough. We're telling you it's interesting.
**Chip** (00:20:51:23 - 00:21:00:11):
It's interesting. It's. This is what we. This is what you people need to know. We talked about a disappearing beach in England, and now we have to talk to you about the next queen of it.
**Thomas** (00:21:00:11 - 00:21:03:06):
That's the order of operations from the bottom of the top chip.
**Chip** (00:21:03:06 - 00:21:04:19):
From the nips to the tip.
**Thomas** (00:21:04:19 - 00:21:06:12):
The tip to the nip. That's the bottom of the top.
**Chip** (00:21:06:13 - 00:21:07:07):
The tip to the nip.
**Thomas** (00:21:07:07 - 00:21:15:15):
Excuse me? Unless you have one of those nose hog situations and then it snips the tip.
**Chip** (00:21:15:16 - 00:21:17:05):
It really is. It really is.
**Thomas** (00:21:17:05 - 00:21:18:16):
But most people don't have that.
**Chip** (00:21:18:18 - 00:21:20:14):
No, no.
**Thomas** (00:21:20:16 - 00:21:29:16):
Most people don't have a nose, a nose hog. Nose hog. This is another one. That's Rattner wheelhouse. Chip. Lady Gaga made the.
**Chip** (00:21:29:18 - 00:21:33:22):
All the Lady Gaga news you can take here on the sunburn podcast.
**Thomas** (00:21:33:23 - 00:21:41:12):
Lady Gaga made the Grove Mall in Hollywood feel weirder than it already does. A very surreal place. Chip, have you ever been?
**Chip** (00:21:41:12 - 00:21:48:11):
Many times, I actually love, I love, I love, hate The Grove, I yeah, I'm a big I'm a big fan of the farmers market.
**Thomas** (00:21:48:11 - 00:21:50:04):
Oh, dude. Farmers markets. Tremendous.
**Chip** (00:21:50:05 - 00:21:53:21):
What's the the restaurant there. The diner do do parse. Is that what.
**Thomas** (00:21:53:23 - 00:22:01:19):
There's a do. PA's there. There's also a little outdoor like breakfast counter situation too.
**Chip** (00:22:01:22 - 00:22:18:18):
Yeah, I just I love the I love the farmer's market and the, the Grove is just a I was I will say I was there I mean I've been there a number of times, but I've been there twice right during Thanksgiving. Yeah. Which is when they're putting all the Christmas stuff up.
**Thomas** (00:22:18:19 - 00:22:19:11):
Oh that's fine.
**Chip** (00:22:19:12 - 00:22:27:22):
Yeah. Extra cool. So yeah, actually, yeah, I've been there other times besides Christmas. But it is fun with the big tree and the whole thing. Yeah, yeah.
**Thomas** (00:22:28:00 - 00:22:45:16):
Two famous experiences I had the Grove. One was the only time I've seen Jon Hamm in real life. Okay. And I swear to God, I didn't know it was him. And I saw a man walking by me in this, like, cool leather jacket, and I was like, is that person glowing? Like, what the. What's going on? Like, there was a literal aura.
And then I was like, look close. I was like, that's Don Draper. Holy cow. Dude, that guy's got a quality. I'll tell you what.
**Chip** (00:22:52:04 - 00:22:56:16):
I hung out with him one night at a at Largo for Douglas movies.
**Thomas** (00:22:56:17 - 00:22:58:23):
You were doing Largo, the Doug Benson thing, right?
**Chip** (00:22:59:00 - 00:23:22:06):
Yeah. Doug loves movies. And he was there. First of all, just the most down to earth, nicest, most fun guy. And. But just has. You're like, oh, he is just like, I guess casting directors, they just see hundreds of people every day casting things. But it's like, how is he not plucked from obscurity immediately because he spent a number of years in, you know, toiling just like his a lot of actors do.
But man, yeah. And I remember at the end of the day, I was like, I shook his hand. I was like, oh, thanks. And then he went to walk away and I patted him on the back. I was like, hey, man, it's great to meet you. And just granite.
**Thomas** (00:23:31:16 - 00:23:35:21):
Just. I wouldn't be surprised at that. Yeah, he has it all going on.
**Chip** (00:23:35:21 - 00:23:36:15):
He really does.
**Thomas** (00:23:36:16 - 00:23:54:20):
The other notable story I have from The Grove was that's where I saw Jared Fogle, losing his mind on a cell phone call, screaming at somebody angrily on the other end. And it was like two days before the news broke about his indiscretions.
**Chip** (00:23:54:21 - 00:23:57:13):
Oh, what happened with Jared from subway?
**Thomas** (00:23:57:15 - 00:23:58:13):
He gained the weight.
**Chip** (00:23:58:15 - 00:24:00:06):
I haven't checked out the news recently.
**Thomas** (00:24:00:07 - 00:24:08:01):
Yeah. He gained he gained the weight back, and he is now living in shame as somebody who couldn't keep his mouth off those foot longs.
**Chip** (00:24:08:06 - 00:24:30:01):
What? What an amazing pairing of, like of guests to see at the Grove. Jon Hamm, maybe a one of the most attractive and nicest, most beloved guys in the world. Yeah. And then Jared Fogle, a little further down that list.
**Thomas** (00:24:30:02 - 00:24:44:04):
And also Jon Hamm, famous for being, you know, professionally good looking. Of course, but a very talented actor. Yes. Jared Fogle, famous for losing a bunch of weight while eating sandwiches.
**Chip** (00:24:44:06 - 00:24:44:21):
Yes.
**Thomas** (00:24:44:21 - 00:24:48:14):
And then also not being the nicest person.
**Chip** (00:24:48:16 - 00:24:50:18):
I'll take your word for it again. I haven't seen the news.
**Thomas** (00:24:50:18 - 00:24:52:03):
Back to what we're talking about.
**Chip** (00:24:52:04 - 00:25:01:19):
So we have okay, here's here's my Mount Rushmore of the grove. Okay, okay. And there's only three.
**Thomas** (00:25:01:20 - 00:25:04:20):
More of a mount Rushmore. Less.
**Chip** (00:25:04:22 - 00:25:13:19):
Yes. We're rushing a little less on this one. My top three, Jon Hamm. Yep. Jared fogle. Lady gaga.
**Thomas** (00:25:13:21 - 00:25:22:23):
Lady gaga. So Lady Gaga recorded this concert at the Wilton, and it was one of those situations where you could not bring cell phones in, like they locked it up.
**Chip** (00:25:22:23 - 00:25:23:17):
I like it.
**Thomas** (00:25:23:18 - 00:25:47:01):
The only pieces of this concert are owned by her and her team, and they're releasing it as a special. And to, like, celebrate releasing that special. They did this way over the top funeral for, I presume, Lady Gaga, a big procession through this very nice fake Italian mall.
**Chip** (00:25:47:03 - 00:25:49:11):
It is a very nice fake Italian mall. Yes it is.
**Thomas** (00:25:49:12 - 00:25:51:16):
They really want you to feel like you're in fake Italy.
**Chip** (00:25:51:17 - 00:25:59:11):
Because I think the Lady Gaga, the the live album, it's called like Requiem something, right? Which is like a funeral. Funeral song. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:25:59:12 - 00:26:00:21):
Mayhem. Requiem.
**Chip** (00:26:00:22 - 00:26:02:21):
Whacked out. Requiem.
**Thomas** (00:26:02:22 - 00:26:07:07):
It's a whacked out sports hashtag. Finally a requiem.
**Chip** (00:26:07:11 - 00:26:08:18):
Requiem for a team.
**Thomas** (00:26:08:18 - 00:26:13:16):
So this is like it's an Apple Music thing. They're going up against Spotify.
**Chip** (00:26:13:18 - 00:26:14:09):
Of course.
**Thomas** (00:26:14:10 - 00:26:30:16):
They're trying to find their little way into it. Spotify is kind of dominating on the podcast and the video podcast world. So Apple Music is coming in there like really trying to go for these live, exclusive performances that they capture and put up on there.
**Chip** (00:26:30:17 - 00:26:35:13):
I still listen to that live goose album from Madison Square Garden from last summer all the time.
**Thomas** (00:26:35:13 - 00:26:36:03):
I know.
**Chip** (00:26:36:03 - 00:26:37:11):
It, dude. On Apple Music.
**Thomas** (00:26:37:12 - 00:26:54:09):
They keep it rolling out. But she had an eight piece brass band playing New Orleans style jazz versions of her songs from the album. Yeah, and she had hundreds of her, as she calls them, little Monsters. Her fans there, her burnt ones.
**Chip** (00:26:54:09 - 00:26:54:22):
They really are.
**Thomas** (00:26:54:23 - 00:27:02:18):
And they were all wearing very elaborate bird masks, leather vests and top hats. Jeff.
**Chip** (00:27:02:19 - 00:27:09:03):
Talk about, I mean, dressing it up. Yeah, Kate Middleton's not the only one. That was a little overdressed for the occasion.
**Thomas** (00:27:09:04 - 00:27:15:21):
Exactly, exactly. The only thing they didn't do is make a quick lunch from scratch.
**Chip** (00:27:15:23 - 00:27:38:09):
No, no, no, they did not. They're little monsters. They can't do everything. Thomas. Yeah, I will say big day in Los Angeles for that lady Gaga at the Grove unveiling the new album. The live album. Another, another big event that same day. If you want to talk about pop stars. Yeah. Iggy Azalea was at the target on La Cienega applying for a job.
**Thomas** (00:27:38:10 - 00:27:40:20):
It's moving and shaking in Hollywood. Yep.
**Chip** (00:27:40:22 - 00:27:41:22):
Lots of stuff happening.
**Thomas** (00:27:41:23 - 00:27:46:02):
Disney just decided Skrillex and Mickey Mouse should be on the same app.
**Chip** (00:27:46:03 - 00:27:51:17):
Get him together like like we've wanted. It's like bringing together Jon Hamm and Jared from subway.
**Thomas** (00:27:51:18 - 00:27:53:14):
I mean, the yin and yang.
**Chip** (00:27:53:17 - 00:27:56:11):
That buddy movie that we've all been waiting for.
**Thomas** (00:27:56:11 - 00:27:59:02):
What would that movie one foot from justice.
**Chip** (00:27:59:03 - 00:28:01:00):
Bad men.
**Thomas** (00:28:01:02 - 00:28:02:11):
A bad man, I like that.
**Chip** (00:28:02:12 - 00:28:03:02):
Yeah, yeah.
**Thomas** (00:28:03:03 - 00:28:06:18):
Oh, maybe. Maybe they're the new mix we need for the twins remake.
**Chip** (00:28:06:19 - 00:28:10:08):
There it is. Okay. Yeah. So the DeVito Schwarzenegger thing? Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:28:10:09 - 00:28:11:03):
That could be good.
**Chip** (00:28:11:04 - 00:28:15:05):
Top gun to be a maverick. Don't goose anybody.
**Thomas** (00:28:15:06 - 00:28:43:17):
Top gun three, 500ft away from an elementary school at all times. So Disney just wrapped up a bunch of music festivals. It's Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits exclusively streaming on the Disney Plus app. Like, this app is really expanding, and they're going up against, like, Prime. Amazon has a bunch of apps or a bunch of music festivals streaming.
Coachella famously has 55,000 live video feeds of their events, and now we've got like some really at least like when we were coming up. Cool, credible, like really indie type festivals are all under the Disney Plus name, right? And I have to imagine there is some crossover between these two worlds coming towards us. And I know you've done a little digging into it, Chip I have.
What does this mean for like entertainment properties? The bands like how, how how is this all going to come together into a cosmic gumbo?
**Chip** (00:29:21:16 - 00:29:31:16):
It is a cosmic gumbo. And I laugh about it all the time about how it's a cosmic gumbo. So these artists are now property of Disney. I mean, they signed the papers. They should know that they are.
**Thomas** (00:29:31:17 - 00:29:32:18):
Full on characters.
**Chip** (00:29:32:18 - 00:29:48:00):
Disney assets. They are all characters. So I think Disney is going to start incorporating some of these pop and rock stars, hip hop acts. Yeah, as part of their streaming service and even theatrical release. Movies.
**Thomas** (00:29:48:02 - 00:29:48:17):
Wow.
**Chip** (00:29:48:23 - 00:30:15:12):
So just a couple. I've done some research. I've done the looking. I have, you know me, I do some sleuthing with the with the insiders at variety. And there's another magazine. There's another newspaper that's like variety. Deadline. Sure. Yeah. Deadline. That's what I did. And I found out that a number of new movie projects are in the works featuring some of these stars from Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.
**Thomas** (00:30:15:13 - 00:30:21:22):
That actually is pretty exciting to me. I think, like, you know, that's one of the benefits. Tell me, like, what's what's coming down the pike?
**Chip** (00:30:21:22 - 00:30:32:01):
So the first one I'm really looking for is Wreck-It Radiohead. That one's going to be it's about a video game guy that makes really crazy music with weird rhythms.
**Thomas** (00:30:32:03 - 00:30:34:15):
I it sounds sounds very Disney dude.
**Chip** (00:30:34:16 - 00:30:42:01):
Yeah. Speaking of video games and, those types of characters, big hero Skrillex.
He's a DJ, but he's also a hero.
**Thomas** (00:30:43:21 - 00:30:44:14):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:30:44:20 - 00:30:47:15):
I believe your daughter is a Zootopia fan.
**Thomas** (00:30:47:16 - 00:30:49:03):
Big time Zofia fan.
**Chip** (00:30:49:04 - 00:30:51:12):
She's also a big fan of Nirvana. Is that right?
**Thomas** (00:30:51:12 - 00:30:52:15):
Yeah, she loves grunge.
**Chip** (00:30:52:16 - 00:31:03:15):
Who doesn't? Who doesn't love grunge? Is a as a toddler. This is really exciting. Dave Grohl is going to be in the new Zootopia. Zootopia three Foo topia.
**Thomas** (00:31:03:16 - 00:31:04:13):
Oh, okay.
**Chip** (00:31:04:16 - 00:31:22:21):
And then of course, there is the classic, classic children's tale From the Sea finding Lizzo. So she got Lizzo got lost, and now her family has to search the ocean for her. Of course, more contemporary. There's frozen three Elsa joins wet leg.
**Thomas** (00:31:22:23 - 00:31:24:05):
Okay, yeah.
**Chip** (00:31:24:06 - 00:31:37:23):
Wet leg fun lady band that that Elsa is now a part of. This one is for this one is closest to my heart. I think I'll let you say it, honey. I shrunk the strokes.
The New York garage band The Strokes have been shrunken down by Mr. Rick Moranis, and hilarity ensues.
**Thomas** (00:31:46:02 - 00:31:48:07):
Glad to see Rick back on the stick.
**Chip** (00:31:48:09 - 00:32:19:06):
The sky is falling for this one. Thomas for this new rendition. Chicken Lil Uzi Vert. And then of course, the classic 101 Vince Staples. And then and then of course, you have the the a little noir detective y, darker Disney film Who Framed Charli XCX? Multimedia. It is it is digital, it is animated, it's live action, it's Charli XCX.
**Thomas** (00:32:19:08 - 00:32:22:03):
And Jessica Rabbit, played by Jon Hamm.
**Chip** (00:32:22:03 - 00:32:42:01):
He fits that dress very well. Woo! And then finally, I mean, this one's the obvious one. The the this is the collaboration we've all been waiting for. The classic one of your favorite movies, Thomas the reboot, Snow White and the Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring Luther Dickinson.
**Thomas** (00:32:42:03 - 00:32:43:00):
They got Luther.
**Chip** (00:32:43:01 - 00:32:44:05):
Yeah, they got Luther. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:32:44:06 - 00:32:51:12):
That's a tale that's needed an upgrade for a while. I know they had a misfire just trying to do a direct remake. I think this is the path forward, dude.
**Chip** (00:32:51:14 - 00:32:51:23):
I believe.
**Thomas** (00:32:52:00 - 00:33:02:10):
So this makes all the sense in the world to me. Well, congratulations, Disney Plus and all the artists involved. I mean, this is dead taking entertainment to a new level, and I'm really excited about.
**Chip** (00:33:02:10 - 00:33:04:17):
It, a level that we're all excited about.
**Thomas** (00:33:04:20 - 00:33:10:10):
A level of excitement we can get excited about. Yeah. All right.
**Chip** (00:33:10:12 - 00:33:11:03):
Okay, good.
**Thomas** (00:33:11:04 - 00:33:25:03):
This is a summer treat, dude. 13 Omni Hotels are bringing back Tiki Social this year, where they turn the lobby bars into tiki themed summer pop ups.
**Chip** (00:33:25:03 - 00:33:26:21):
What's not fun about that, dude?
**Thomas** (00:33:26:21 - 00:33:33:12):
It's it's great. You get a little more tiki in your life. I'm not sure why they don't keep it all year round because it's a lot of fun.
**Chip** (00:33:33:13 - 00:33:33:23):
Why not?
**Thomas** (00:33:34:00 - 00:33:51:03):
Yeah. They open. It's it's second year running on Memorial Day through Labor Day. So they bookend it. So like you can start this weekend. Head to a participating Omni hotel. And they've got like a really high end tiki bar like selection going on.
**Chip** (00:33:51:08 - 00:34:08:08):
I love it I'm totally Thomas, I got to say, not to take anything away from our trip to Hawaii last year, which was amazing, life affirming, if you will. Yeah, but one of my favorite days from 2025 was your and my Tiki tour of New.
**Thomas** (00:34:08:08 - 00:34:09:09):
York, New York City.
**Chip** (00:34:09:13 - 00:34:12:18):
Finding those tiki bars, what do we find? Three of them. Four of them.
**Thomas** (00:34:12:22 - 00:34:14:11):
And yeah.
**Chip** (00:34:14:12 - 00:34:19:06):
They all had their own flavor, their own flair. They were all incredible.
**Thomas** (00:34:19:08 - 00:34:19:22):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:34:19:22 - 00:34:22:18):
Why aren't we embracing this more?
**Thomas** (00:34:22:20 - 00:34:28:01):
I think I think, I think we are. I think we're doing our part each I'm.
**Chip** (00:34:28:01 - 00:34:30:01):
Talking we as a society, I guess.
**Thomas** (00:34:30:01 - 00:34:31:08):
They're the railway.
**Chip** (00:34:31:12 - 00:34:32:17):
The royal we.
**Thomas** (00:34:32:20 - 00:34:58:20):
Yeah. Yeah. I mean and now Omni Hotels is doing their part and you know who else is doing their part? Beach bum. Barry. Dude, this guy owns his own tiki bar in New Orleans, but he's put together the drink menu and he's showing up to these properties to kind of walk people through some of the history of tiki bars, some of the, you know, finer points of making these cocktails.
And it's a very, very user friendly, like you'll leave with a recipe for my ties, that kind of stuff that you can make at home with the 50 ingredients you need to make, like a real high quality, mighty sure. But it also comes with a side of history. And I'm just going to give you a couple of quick hits.
**Chip** (00:35:16:05 - 00:35:16:15):
Lay it on.
**Thomas** (00:35:16:15 - 00:35:32:20):
Me, Tiki bar history, dude. So Tiki culture was born in 1933 when a man who went by Don beach opened Don the Beachcomber in Hollywood the literal day after prohibition ended up.
**Chip** (00:35:32:21 - 00:35:37:02):
Yeah, there's no way he did not have that bar open for a year or two before that.
**Thomas** (00:35:37:02 - 00:36:07:04):
That's probably a really good point. Trader Vic's followed. It's another one. They're actually opening their opening up a new Trader Vic's like it shut down for a while. I think the pandemic was no good. But that's coming back to in Los Angeles. Together, the two establishments launched a 40 year craze built on rum carved figures and indoor waterfalls to combat the collective anxiety of a mid-century America.
The kind of the quote that goes along with this is the worst things got for America. The more people needed a tiki vacation.
**Chip** (00:36:15:04 - 00:36:23:04):
I think that's true. I mean, it's you got the Great Depression going on. Who doesn't need a little little palm tree every now and again?
**Thomas** (00:36:23:05 - 00:36:29:06):
Yeah, dude, it was a mental vacation. It's a lot of the same reasons we do this podcast.
**Chip** (00:36:29:06 - 00:36:31:18):
Exactly. Yeah. We are in the same tradition.
**Thomas** (00:36:31:18 - 00:36:41:21):
Maybe a little slightly healthier, hopefully, because we're we're not pounding the sugars and the alcohols here, but we are spending time in that good place.
**Chip** (00:36:41:21 - 00:36:43:23):
In that space, slapping on the lather.
**Thomas** (00:36:44:00 - 00:36:57:09):
And we're giving ourselves things to look forward to putting a slather on. And we're spending a little time in the tropics in our mind. I think it's all very healthy. It's all very exciting for us. That's why we do this. But born out of a lot of the same, the same feelings here.
**Chip** (00:36:57:09 - 00:36:59:18):
He's just the brick and mortar version of it is all it is.
**Thomas** (00:36:59:18 - 00:37:09:04):
So these things went strong until about the mid 70s when, like, the kids didn't want to do what their parents did anymore. It was like they were they were kind of getting into pot. They were hanging out.
**Chip** (00:37:09:05 - 00:37:11:15):
They were disco dancing. They were foxy boxing.
**Thomas** (00:37:11:15 - 00:37:34:09):
And they saw their parents going to these tiki bars. They just decided, no, not for me. Went through a 20 year period where it was kind of lame. It just like culturally wasn't happening. And then in the 1990s, the craft cocktail revolution popped up and people started appreciating complex drinks again, and the tiki bars found their luster once more.
Which brings us to where we are. You know, Trader Vic's.
**Chip** (00:37:39:09 - 00:37:42:00):
And we're back, baby.
**Thomas** (00:37:42:02 - 00:37:43:20):
Sunken Harbor club.
**Chip** (00:37:43:22 - 00:37:44:18):
Yeah. Oh, man.
**Thomas** (00:37:44:19 - 00:37:50:19):
I mean, a tiki check and zombie hut.
**Chip** (00:37:50:23 - 00:37:52:04):
Zombie hut was. That's the one.
**Thomas** (00:37:52:07 - 00:38:08:00):
That was. That was the run we did in New York City. We had a great time. We actually were trying to do more tiki bar crawls, set it up in a couple more cities, and surprisingly, not not as many as you think.
**Chip** (00:38:08:02 - 00:38:26:09):
We need to bring back the Tiki bar, I think. I know alcohol consumption is down with the youths. Yeah, I think they need a little fun. They need a little splash in the sand, a little, you know, maybe a little fake waterfall or two, you know, that'll get them in the mood. Stop the vaping. Start the. My tion is what.
**Thomas** (00:38:26:10 - 00:38:30:05):
I stop the vaping. And for the love of God, stop the smoking. Smoking's back. Chip.
**Chip** (00:38:30:06 - 00:38:31:00):
It's bad.
**Thomas** (00:38:31:01 - 00:38:44:10):
Yeah, I mean, that's fine. Lay off the booze. That's great. Don't shoot. Don't pick up the vape and enjoy a nice fruit juice. Dude like you take the. You take the 17 rums out of a mighty. That's still a delicious fruit juice.
**Chip** (00:38:44:11 - 00:38:45:23):
Still a great bevy.
**Thomas** (00:38:45:23 - 00:38:55:08):
So if you're close to an Omni hotel and want to get your Memorial Day, we want to get your summer kicked off with a high end tiki cocktail. Go for it, baby.
**Chip** (00:38:55:09 - 00:38:57:08):
Throw on the shirt. Go enjoy yourself.
**Thomas** (00:38:57:08 - 00:39:18:06):
And it's not all about booze. They also have like some virgin options. Great on the offering. So get out. Celebrate if if it's raining, if it's a weird weekend, like it might be in Philadelphia. Yeah, get out there. Unless you are in Philadelphia. In which case, get your buns to the Philly punch line.
**Chip** (00:39:18:07 - 00:39:20:00):
Yeah, they have some fruity drinks.
**Thomas** (00:39:20:00 - 00:39:22:17):
They have some fruity drinks, and they have some fruity performers.
**Chip** (00:39:22:18 - 00:39:27:04):
Yes they do.
**Thomas** (00:39:27:06 - 00:39:30:11):
All right, man, that's it for the algo. We did it.
**Chip** (00:39:30:13 - 00:39:35:05):
We did it. We tickled those robot funny bones.
**Thomas** (00:39:35:05 - 00:39:41:15):
I hope you liked it. Robots. And I hope you liked it. Burnt ones. Dude. Do you have anything for Hypochondria Corner this week?
**Chip** (00:39:41:15 - 00:40:01:22):
I've been feeling pretty good, I have to say. So the the allergies are starting to get me a little bit more, but, like, I feel like we've been hypochondriac so long that, like, I know to, I know what it is now, and it's like I can just be chill about it. And I think that's the thing. It's being chill and realizing, yeah, I just got allergies and they're going to move on.
And then they they move past Thomas.
**Thomas** (00:40:04:07 - 00:40:11:12):
That is nice. I will keep this very brief. Famously, I had a sinus infection a couple of weeks ago.
**Chip** (00:40:11:13 - 00:40:14:11):
Yes, I think about that more times than you realize.
**Thomas** (00:40:14:12 - 00:40:29:13):
I think I know you, and I believe what you're saying here. Yeah, but I will say that I, you know, it came after I had been congested. I just had a stuffy nose for a while, and then this popped up, and I have linked it in my mind to using Afrin.
**Chip** (00:40:29:15 - 00:40:30:12):
Okay.
**Thomas** (00:40:30:14 - 00:40:52:03):
Like, I'm just like, I think I used Afrin and it closed things up. It got infected. So now my allergies are starting to flare up a little bit again. Yeah, it's that time of year here too. And you know, sometimes I like to take the edge off with a little Afrin if it gets too flowing too much. And I have not I've not gone that direction.
I'm just like dealing with it. You know, we got we got some mild to geez, we got a little stuffy nose and I am doing almost nothing to combat it because I do not want that shot in the head feeling of a sinus infection coming back. Probably not really related, but correlated in my mind.
**Chip** (00:41:09:16 - 00:41:18:05):
But in your head. That's why you worry about maybe switch the brain. Maybe a little Flonase would help you. I'm a fluent guy. Just a little. A little shot or two each day. Boom.
**Thomas** (00:41:18:07 - 00:41:26:04):
That is nice. I actually have a fresh batch of Flonase, because that's one of the remedies for sinus infections. Thinking that.
**Chip** (00:41:26:06 - 00:41:27:01):
Maybe try one of those.
**Thomas** (00:41:27:02 - 00:41:30:13):
Yeah okay. Yeah. Maybe maybe I'll go. Maybe I'll walk back that down that line.
**Chip** (00:41:30:14 - 00:41:34:18):
But I know what happens. Like when you associate those, those things. Yeah.
**Thomas** (00:41:34:19 - 00:41:48:16):
It just keeps driving me back to the islands. Chip, I don't have allergies and beach environments and tropical environments. At least I haven't experienced that yet. Just another thing to escape by getting your buns to a tropical island.
**Chip** (00:41:48:16 - 00:41:55:13):
Don't I know you don't have all that pollen, all that other stuff. You just have beautiful sand beaches are.
**Thomas** (00:41:55:15 - 00:42:25:07):
Very excited to be getting back. Ironing out the In Paradise schedule for this year will be releasing that soon. Stay tuned. That's it for the hypochondriac corner. Boom! Next it's time to jump into Buffett facts, where we celebrate the man, Jimmy Buffett. He led a life of his own design that he did not need a vacation from, and was so persuasive with it that he got the whole world to come along with him.
And we we are we're becoming Buffett historians.
**Chip** (00:42:29:05 - 00:42:30:06):
We dive deep.
**Thomas** (00:42:30:06 - 00:42:43:01):
We've been doing the research. We found facts that only the biggest parrot heads, the biggest Jimmy Buffett fans already know. And we're kind of sharing them here on the podcast. Chip, what is your Buffett fact this week?
**Chip** (00:42:43:01 - 00:42:55:15):
Jimmy Buffett owned a lot of dogs historically, and he never taught his dogs to sit or stay. He just taught them to chill and relax.
**Thomas** (00:42:55:17 - 00:42:58:15):
Very famous. Very true.
**Chip** (00:42:58:16 - 00:43:02:02):
How about you, Thomas? What is that Buffett fact of yours?
**Thomas** (00:43:02:03 - 00:43:12:08):
Jimmy Buffett didn't like celebrity roasts where people treated each other like pigs. He liked pig rose, where celebrities treated each other like people.
**Chip** (00:43:12:12 - 00:43:16:02):
That's a beautiful sentiment, Thomas. That is a very beautiful sentiment.
**Thomas** (00:43:16:04 - 00:43:18:09):
I also, I, I just have a bonus.
**Chip** (00:43:18:09 - 00:43:19:15):
Buffett fact. Let's let's.
**Thomas** (00:43:19:15 - 00:43:30:23):
Hear it. It's for the holiday. Jimmy Buffett always had the same perfect Memorial Day plan to have as much fun as possible.
**Chip** (00:43:30:23 - 00:43:32:04):
I love it, I love it.
**Thomas** (00:43:32:05 - 00:43:35:12):
Saw you out there have a Jimmy Buffett Memorial Day weekend.
**Chip** (00:43:35:13 - 00:43:36:06):
Go for it.
**Thomas** (00:43:36:07 - 00:43:38:04):
Have as much fun as possible.
**Chip** (00:43:38:05 - 00:43:40:06):
Change that attitude, change that latitude.
**Thomas** (00:43:40:07 - 00:43:51:08):
Absolutely. And now that Buffett facts are over, I'm feeling some splashing. I'm feeling some splashing. Some people might even say I'm feeling some motion in the ocean. It's time for the sunburn podcast. Fish of the.
00:43:51:08 β 00:43:53:21 UNRESOLVED β Week, fish of the week.
Our hero of the deep.
**Chip** (00:43:55:08 - 00:44:06:07):
And we have an amazing, amazing fish of the week. This week. Thomas, I want to introduce the world to Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish.
**Thomas** (00:44:06:09 - 00:44:07:01):
Whoa!
Henry.
**Chip** (00:44:08:10 - 00:44:24:16):
Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish, also known as tinker's butterfly fish. Because there was this. This guy named Tinker, who was the first guy to find him. And I will say this. Not an easy job to find Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish.
**Thomas** (00:44:24:17 - 00:44:26:12):
A little bit of a recluse.
**Chip** (00:44:26:14 - 00:44:40:13):
Big, big recluse. So without giving too many details, because he doesn't want his he doesn't want to spot blown up Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish lives in the Central Pacific. That is not the old timey railroad, Thomas.
**Thomas** (00:44:40:18 - 00:44:41:05):
Oh.
**Chip** (00:44:41:07 - 00:44:48:12):
That is the ocean. Okay. He lives deep down in the reefs, 100 to 500ft down.
**Thomas** (00:44:48:13 - 00:44:48:22):
Whoa.
That's really far down.
**Chip** (00:44:50:07 - 00:44:56:23):
He's down those reefs. It's what they call literally the twilight zone, because it's murky. You can see maybe a little bit of light and.
**Thomas** (00:44:57:00 - 00:44:57:16):
Whoa!
**Chip** (00:44:57:18 - 00:45:17:08):
Every once in a while, Burgess Meredith breaks his glasses and can never read anything because it's the end of the world. That's what happens in Twilight Zone up here on Earth, or down to the bottom of the ocean in the Twilight Zone. Henry sighting is rare. He is very reclusive, like you said Thomas, like some highly respected geniuses that would go into hiding Marlon Brando.
**Thomas** (00:45:17:10 - 00:45:18:02):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:45:18:03 - 00:45:22:03):
Brian Wilson, Jonathan Taylor, Thomas.
**Thomas** (00:45:22:05 - 00:45:22:21):
J.T..
**Chip** (00:45:23:02 - 00:45:45:14):
All of those, you know, they they go into hiding sometimes. Yeah. Now, Henry can usually be found alone or with his bonded pair. He doesn't travel in a pack. He doesn't travel in a school. He's by himself or with the Mrs.. Yeah. That's it. Yeah. All the way down there. Okay. I will say people are missing out, though, for not seeing because Henry is a looker.
00:45:45:15 β 00:45:45:23 UNRESOLVED β Oh.
**Thomas** (00:45:45:23 - 00:45:48:03):
Gorge dude. Absolutely gorgeous.
**Chip** (00:45:48:03 - 00:46:00:05):
Just look at him right here. Thomas. He's a static is like your neighbors. The bed Nazis powder room in 1991. It's black, white, gold and gaudy.
**Thomas** (00:46:00:07 - 00:46:01:06):
Yeah, right.
**Chip** (00:46:01:08 - 00:46:06:20):
Plus, just like the bed Nazis powder room, he's always wet and smells kind of weird.
**Thomas** (00:46:06:22 - 00:46:08:16):
Yeah, yeah, that sounds about.
**Chip** (00:46:08:17 - 00:46:30:08):
Right now. He is a skinny, oval shaped body. The front is white with black spots. The back is black with some yellow stripes. He's also got a yellow stripe along his eye in the front. It's it's like Thomas. Just picture a black and white cookie that somebody spilled a little bit of mustard on. That's Henry right there.
**Thomas** (00:46:30:08 - 00:46:31:12):
That's a deli hazard.
Dude.
**Chip** (00:46:31:21 - 00:46:50:01):
That is a deli. Deli hazard. You got to separate him in the bag, Thomas. You got to separate them in the bag. His caudal fin, which is his tail fin. The caudal fin is yellow as well. Okay. And like I said, he's got that yellow orange stripe across his eye, just like Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
And just like Michelangelo was trying to hide from the authorities, I guess, I don't know. Henry is trying to hide from those predators. That's why he has that yellow stripe to obscure that I. He's also got some yellow markings in the back. Like I said, that might look like an eye. So you don't know if he is coming or going.
**Thomas** (00:47:11:10 - 00:47:12:19):
That's a little mystery there.
**Chip** (00:47:12:20 - 00:47:22:16):
You can't tell the front from the back. Henry is kind of like the biological marking versions of when Bugs Bunny would say he went that way.
**Thomas** (00:47:22:18 - 00:47:25:01):
Hattori confusing man.
**Chip** (00:47:25:03 - 00:47:27:05):
Thomas asked me how Henry eats.
**Thomas** (00:47:27:06 - 00:47:28:11):
How does Henry eat.
**Chip** (00:47:28:17 - 00:47:44:01):
Like a guy in his early 20s? Whatever. And whenever he wants, he just grazes. It doesn't matter what. He just sucks up whatever's in front of him. He'll just eat, eat, eat all day long. And he still looks gorgeous.
**Thomas** (00:47:44:02 - 00:47:50:20):
Oh, what a looker. I mean, that physique. Eating whatever you want. Come on. Henry. Genetically gifted. John. Hamish.
**Chip** (00:47:50:20 - 00:48:02:13):
John. Hamish, if you will. Now, Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish does have a Hawaiian name or Hawaiian term designated to him, which is key. Kakapo.
**Thomas** (00:48:02:15 - 00:48:03:07):
Okay.
**Chip** (00:48:03:08 - 00:48:06:22):
Which is Hawaiian for strongly forbidden.
**Thomas** (00:48:07:00 - 00:48:07:20):
Oh, okay.
**Chip** (00:48:07:20 - 00:48:28:12):
Okay. A more direct translation from Hawaiian is you can't touch this. Catching or eating Henry is strictly forbidden. He's off the list. You don't mess with him. He's keeping the reef and the ecosystem good. They don't want you touching him. So. Which really means Henry is basically a made man.
**Thomas** (00:48:28:15 - 00:48:29:07):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:48:29:10 - 00:48:49:14):
So, honestly, we probably shouldn't be talking about him publicly. Let's delete this fish of the week, Thomas. But that is Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish. And even though he's deep down there, I hope we get to see more of Henry and for that matter, more of Jonathan, Taylor, Thomas.
**Thomas** (00:48:49:15 - 00:48:52:17):
JT and Henry. Maybe there's something there. Maybe there's a collab.
**Chip** (00:48:52:18 - 00:48:54:01):
We'll crossover right there.
**Thomas** (00:48:54:07 - 00:48:57:13):
Jonathan Taylor Thomas, come to Hawaii with us this this fall.
**Chip** (00:48:57:13 - 00:49:00:16):
And Thomas, that is Henry, the Hawaiian butterfly fish.
**Thomas** (00:49:00:21 - 00:49:07:18):
Oh, Henry, what a starter. There's like something a little David Bowie about Henry. You know.
**Chip** (00:49:07:20 - 00:49:16:08):
John Thomas, I was honestly going to say that from the one album the it's not larger I don't think would ever Aladdin Sane. I think the one with the, with the little.
**Thomas** (00:49:16:09 - 00:49:16:12):
The.
**Chip** (00:49:16:12 - 00:49:25:18):
Stripes paint down the middle. He's, he's David Bowie right there. Absolutely. But he's also got the, the glitz and glamor of like a David Bowie Let's Dance era.
**Thomas** (00:49:25:18 - 00:49:29:22):
He's spanning a couple generations of Bowie and he's doing it flawlessly.
**Chip** (00:49:29:23 - 00:49:33:18):
He really is. And I'll be honest with you, a couple generations of Jonathan Taylor.
**Thomas** (00:49:33:18 - 00:49:35:03):
Thomas, man of the house.
**Chip** (00:49:35:04 - 00:49:36:09):
He was definitely home improvement.
**Thomas** (00:49:36:10 - 00:49:37:00):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:49:37:02 - 00:49:44:14):
I feel like there was one where he might have played like soccer, but I could be wrong, I don't know.
**Thomas** (00:49:44:16 - 00:49:50:17):
Well, that's it for fish. In the wake of the week, our hero of the deep, we're moving on to the Good book.
**Chip** (00:49:50:18 - 00:50:00:15):
So open those up. That Guinness Book of World Records. The highest, the strongest, the fastest, the longest. Thomas, what is your Guinness world record this week.
**Thomas** (00:50:00:19 - 00:50:13:09):
Chip, I'm bringing you an outstanding feat of engineering and human perseverance. I am here to tell you about the largest outdoor pool in the world. Chip.
**Chip** (00:50:13:11 - 00:50:17:01):
Nice. I can't even fathom.
**Thomas** (00:50:17:06 - 00:50:19:05):
Well, I'm gonna force you to fathom.
**Chip** (00:50:19:10 - 00:50:19:21):
Okay?
**Thomas** (00:50:19:21 - 00:50:24:09):
And fathom also could be a measure of how deep this thing is. I'm not sure.
**Chip** (00:50:24:10 - 00:50:26:16):
What would you want me to even like?
**Thomas** (00:50:26:17 - 00:50:44:09):
What I'm going to ask you to guess is how long this pool is in feet. And for context, a little hint. This pool is so big it has boats in it. People use motorized boats to get around this thing.
**Chip** (00:50:44:11 - 00:50:46:19):
I'm going to say 500ft across.
**Thomas** (00:50:46:21 - 00:50:48:03):
500ft across.
**Chip** (00:50:48:03 - 00:50:48:18):
It's cute.
**Thomas** (00:50:48:18 - 00:50:59:05):
Okay. The San Alfonso del Mar pool. And I'll go borrow chilly stretches 3323ft, end to end.
**Chip** (00:50:59:07 - 00:51:02:12):
That is the length of Chile. Have you ever seen it? Just.
**Thomas** (00:51:02:14 - 00:51:04:10):
It's a long, skinny three.
**Chip** (00:51:04:16 - 00:51:06:06):
We'd say that again. 3000.
**Thomas** (00:51:06:07 - 00:51:11:16):
3323ft. That is over half a mile of swimming pool.
**Chip** (00:51:11:21 - 00:51:12:11):
Jeez.
**Thomas** (00:51:12:12 - 00:51:25:04):
That is longer than ten football fields laid end to end. That is so long that by the time you swim to the other side, your shorts are sun bleached and tattered.
**Chip** (00:51:25:05 - 00:51:31:02):
I mean, yeah, imagine being the the lifeguard in that pool. That's a that's a lot of head turning.
**Thomas** (00:51:31:04 - 00:51:54:17):
A lot of lifeguards. You also need a lot of dough. This pool is at a private resort in Chile on the Chilean coast. It's so close to the ocean, too, which is like kind of another thing about it. Completed in 2006, and it's the centerpiece that holds roughly 66 million gallons of seawater that is pumped in directly from the Pacific Ocean.
Wow. So there's no hose for this thing. The guy who designed the pool created a system that pulls and cleans seawater directly from the ocean and pops it into this pool.
**Chip** (00:52:08:02 - 00:52:10:00):
So is it a saltwater pool, then?
**Thomas** (00:52:10:01 - 00:52:25:11):
It's a saltwater pool. It's like the salty as a saltwater. It's ocean water pool. Yeah, it's the real deal. But it's like clean ocean water. The depth reaches 115ft at its deepest point. What deeper than the Statue of Liberty is tall.
**Chip** (00:52:25:12 - 00:52:40:01):
All right. Okay. Did you ever have that thing like I wear? You, like, see a body of water and you can't see to the bottom of it and kind of freaks out just a little bit. Like with the ocean. It's one thing because you expect it with the ocean, but like. Yeah, like, like on a cloudy day or something like that.
You see a pool. Yeah. And it's like you can't tell how deep it is. You're like, well, maybe there's a sea monster down there. That's something. We're being in a pool that's 150ft deep. Is that is, that's that's to me, that's more frightening than being in the open ocean.
**Thomas** (00:52:55:04 - 00:53:07:23):
Well, yeah, because you got to think like it takes so much money to make a pool this size. Yeah. And it's like such a bizarre endeavor that that same person who made this pool could also have flown Nessie in.
**Chip** (00:53:07:23 - 00:53:09:23):
Nessie might be summering in Chile.
**Thomas** (00:53:10:00 - 00:53:37:23):
Why not? Yeah. This pool isn't just deep ship. It is expensive. It costs an estimated $4 million a year just to maintain. And that is like before a single guess ever touches the water. Like just to have it there, have it filled with water the way it's, like, designed for million dollars a year just to maintain.
**Chip** (00:53:38:05 - 00:53:40:22):
That's not your average above ground pool right there, Thomas.
**Thomas** (00:53:40:22 - 00:53:54:03):
The guy who designed it like made this filtration system that pulls this massive amount, all these so many gallons of water into this thing and then treats them because he he was kind of bummed about the state of the ocean.
**Chip** (00:53:54:03 - 00:53:55:14):
He wanted clean ocean water.
**Thomas** (00:53:55:14 - 00:53:59:04):
He created essentially a Nerf Pacific Ocean.
**Chip** (00:53:59:04 - 00:54:00:18):
He basically did. Yes.
**Thomas** (00:54:00:19 - 00:54:08:01):
Yeah. For that we say huzzah, huzzah! The largest outdoor pool in the world. Good book certified.
**Chip** (00:54:08:01 - 00:54:10:12):
Well done, well done.
**Thomas** (00:54:10:14 - 00:54:13:19):
All right, Chip, what do you got, buddy? What do you got for a world record this week?
**Chip** (00:54:13:20 - 00:54:22:05):
All right, well, I'm throwing you a little curveball here, Thomas. I started one way, I zagged, and then I segued.
**Thomas** (00:54:22:06 - 00:54:22:22):
Okay.
**Chip** (00:54:22:23 - 00:54:30:16):
I originally was going to do the world record for the most countries visited in a 24 hour period.
**Thomas** (00:54:30:17 - 00:54:31:23):
Yeah, that's what we talked about.
**Chip** (00:54:32:00 - 00:54:42:05):
Travel. Right. That's pretty cool. And then I started reading it. It's just a couple of rich guys on a private jet, basically. And I was like, come on, I want something a little bit more of the people.
**Thomas** (00:54:42:05 - 00:54:44:10):
Of the people, a little more salt of the earth.
**Chip** (00:54:44:11 - 00:54:55:02):
I did a little bit deeper digging, and I found the most countries traveled to in one day on foot.
**Thomas** (00:54:55:03 - 00:54:59:02):
Okay, I have to imagine this is substantially less countries.
**Chip** (00:54:59:03 - 00:55:06:13):
Way less countries. So I believe the guys in the jet and they used cars and jets or whatever, I think they saw like 30 countries in a day.
**Thomas** (00:55:06:14 - 00:55:07:14):
Yeah, that's boring.
**Chip** (00:55:07:16 - 00:55:15:09):
But you're on foot. You're just walking. You're just running. That's all you have. I mean, it's not that many times you want to take a guess.
**Thomas** (00:55:15:11 - 00:55:16:11):
Three.
**Chip** (00:55:16:13 - 00:55:18:21):
Three, three would be nice.
**Thomas** (00:55:18:23 - 00:55:19:18):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:55:19:20 - 00:55:27:21):
All right. On October 16th, 2021, I feel like you were just lounging at your honeymoon at that point time.
**Thomas** (00:55:27:23 - 00:55:29:18):
Yeah, yeah. That's true.
**Chip** (00:55:29:19 - 00:55:47:07):
While you were just lazing around on your honeymoon. Yeah. Okay. This guy, Italian trail runner Dario Marsilio, took that day, that 24 hour period, and he visited five nations.
**Thomas** (00:55:47:08 - 00:55:47:15):
On.
**Chip** (00:55:47:15 - 00:55:53:03):
Foot, five countries on foot, without the help of any other form of transportation.
**Thomas** (00:55:53:03 - 00:56:06:00):
In my mind, picturing like and geographically a place where three countries can come together, you know. Like what? Like I try state area, if you will. Yes. And I can see you nailing all those three. But it's like, where do the other two come from?
**Chip** (00:56:06:01 - 00:56:15:23):
Where how how can you do that? Right. Yeah. Okay. So I'll give you the countries okay. So basically Dario Marcello, he's basically Italy's Forrest Gump.
**Thomas** (00:56:16:00 - 00:56:17:21):
He just kept a running.
**Chip** (00:56:18:00 - 00:56:34:11):
Yes. He's just as they like to call him Gumbo Forrest. So it was his kids were looking at the Guinness Book of World Records and they're like, dad, do you have a world record? He's a trailer. And he's like, no, I don't. But then he decided he plotted a path and he could figure it out. Do you want to take a guess what those five countries were?
I gave you the one. He's Italian, so he started in Italy. So that counts. That's one.
**Thomas** (00:56:38:12 - 00:56:43:12):
So Italy. Maybe he hit Switzerland.
**Chip** (00:56:43:13 - 00:56:46:10):
Go for it, Thomas. Keep cooking.
**Thomas** (00:56:46:15 - 00:56:49:02):
What else is right there? I don't know what else is right there though.
**Chip** (00:56:49:03 - 00:56:57:08):
So it's that. It's that little piece right there. He saw Italy. Of course. That's where he started. Then Switzerland. Yeah. Then Liechtenstein.
**Thomas** (00:56:57:10 - 00:56:58:19):
Oh, okay.
**Chip** (00:56:58:21 - 00:57:00:17):
Okay then Austria.
**Thomas** (00:57:00:18 - 00:57:01:11):
Yep.
**Chip** (00:57:01:14 - 00:57:04:06):
Then he finished up in Germany.
**Thomas** (00:57:04:07 - 00:57:05:01):
Okay.
**Chip** (00:57:05:02 - 00:57:22:10):
All in 23 hours. 35 minutes. He went about 90 miles total on foot. 90 miles. And he was able to clip all of those countries Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany.
**Thomas** (00:57:22:10 - 00:57:26:05):
And those come together like it's the Alps. There's no other way of saying.
**Chip** (00:57:26:06 - 00:57:53:02):
It has to be. Yeah, exactly. I don't think this is flat land. We're not on some. We're not on some British Caribbean secret beach here. You know what I mean? Yeah. We are. We're up in the hills and we did it in 23 hours. 35 minutes. Did 90 miles. I, by the way, I think, Thomas, that reminds me of that time where you tried to roller skate to five different neighborhoods in Los Angeles that day.
In 24 hours, you were run off the ten by a Cybertruck, and you were, I believe, beaten, mercifully, in Crenshaw. Is that right?
**Thomas** (00:58:00:13 - 00:58:07:20):
Yeah, yeah, I went I went through a number of, just really dangerous areas, it turns out.
**Chip** (00:58:07:21 - 00:58:11:17):
Right on. And neighborhoods that they don't care for roller skaters.
**Thomas** (00:58:11:17 - 00:58:17:19):
I know they're more I think they're I think they're more in-line neighborhoods that I was going through. I just had no idea.
**Chip** (00:58:17:22 - 00:58:36:05):
Yeah. Yeah, you have to you have to do the research just like Dario did. Yeah. Now, okay, I will say this. I guess Liechtenstein counts. It's a tiny little country. I feel like that's kind of like bragging. You're like, hey, I beat up five guys by myself. And you're like, you beat up four guys in a toddler.
**Thomas** (00:58:36:08 - 00:58:37:11):
Yeah, yeah.
**Chip** (00:58:37:12 - 00:58:49:16):
That's true. It is is a sovereign nation. Liechtenstein is his own thing. So it still counts. And five, it's still impressive. I mean, I did the count. I think I've been to five other countries in my life.
**Thomas** (00:58:49:18 - 00:58:50:09):
Wow.
**Chip** (00:58:50:15 - 00:58:51:23):
He did it in a day.
**Thomas** (00:58:52:01 - 00:58:52:16):
Yep.
**Chip** (00:58:52:17 - 00:58:58:22):
Okay. So pretty pretty impressive. His biggest problem. Thomas, you know what it was.
**Thomas** (00:58:58:23 - 00:59:00:03):
I don't.
**Chip** (00:59:00:08 - 00:59:03:13):
His passport kept falling out of those little shorts.
**Thomas** (00:59:03:15 - 00:59:06:01):
That is tough. Yeah, that is tough.
**Chip** (00:59:06:05 - 00:59:11:19):
Yeah. And I'll give you an update. Do you know where Dario is now?
**Thomas** (00:59:11:21 - 00:59:15:21):
Yeah. I mean, did he make pasta with Kate Middleton?
**Chip** (00:59:15:23 - 00:59:21:21):
He did not, to my knowledge. Okay. I actually don't know where he is. He's probably in, like, Latvia or something by now. I have no idea.
**Thomas** (00:59:21:22 - 00:59:23:15):
Oh, yeah. He just kept running.
**Chip** (00:59:23:16 - 00:59:34:16):
I'm assuming he just kept running. Yeah. And it's, I will say this about Dario Marsilio. It's great, but I've worked with a couple of people who have run marathons.
**Thomas** (00:59:34:17 - 00:59:35:09):
Yeah.
**Chip** (00:59:35:13 - 00:59:43:07):
Dario must have been unbearable that next Monday at work, at the office. Just bragging about how he went to five different countries.
**Thomas** (00:59:43:08 - 00:59:47:10):
Just can't keep talking about it in different languages and accents.
**Chip** (00:59:47:12 - 00:59:59:00):
Oh, man. It's it's got to be. It's probably a little offensive as well, but, congratulations to you, Dari Marsilio. Visiting five countries in 24 hours on foot.
**Thomas** (00:59:59:03 - 01:00:15:02):
Takes a lot of planning, takes a lot of cardio, takes a lot of mind over matter. Hats off Dario. That's it for the sunburnt podcast everybody. Were we talking about comedy and tropical travel? If you want to hit us up at the Treble and Paradise hotline.
**Chip** (01:00:15:02 - 01:00:16:01):
Write down this number.
**Thomas** (01:00:16:01 - 01:00:28:07):

**Chip** (01:00:28:09 - 01:00:32:17):
Brett desk. Hi, this is Mr. Chantry in room 308. Could I order some room service?
**Thomas** (01:00:32:18 - 01:00:34:13):
Sure. What can I get for you, Mr. Chantry?
**Chip** (01:00:34:15 - 01:00:38:10):
Give me fuel. Give me fire. Give me that which I desire.
**Thomas** (01:00:38:11 - 01:00:44:14):
Mr. Chantry, please stop quoting the Metallica album. Reload.
So, how much fuel and fire do.
**Chip** (01:00:46:16 - 01:00:50:23):
You want? If today's show was a rash, it would be everywhere.
**Thomas** (01:00:50:23 - 01:00:52:16):
From nips to taps.
**Chip** (01:00:52:21 - 01:00:54:10):
And that's the type of rash that I like.
