**Thomas** (00:00:00:01 - 00:00:04:16): What up Burnt Ones. This is the sunburnt podcast where we talk about comedy and tropical travel. **Chip** (00:00:04:21 - 00:00:05:20): We are fresh **Thomas** (00:00:05:20 - 00:00:09:01): Off the heels of our trip to Hawaii, chip. **Chip** (00:00:09:03 - 00:00:12:17): And our heels are very raw and chapped and. **Thomas** (00:00:12:17 - 00:00:26:14): A little sandy because I'm a dirty birdy. To my right, as always, is a stand up comedian from Philadelphia. You know, I'm from Netflix. And his amazing special move Closer. It's Chip Chantry. **Chip** (00:00:26:16 - 00:00:37:22): And over here to my left is Emmy Award winning producer writer. He puts the data in. Dad, I want to be a podcaster when I grow up. Mr. Thomas O'Brien. **Thomas** (00:00:38:03 - 00:00:40:07): It's only getting sweeter. The profession. **Chip** (00:00:40:07 - 00:00:40:21): It really is. **Thomas** (00:00:40:21 - 00:00:59:11): I'm trying to shoot, for the stars myself, but also pass it down to my children and let them know that someday, if you really put your mind to it, develop a skill set for 2030 years. You can talk to your friend via an electronic connection and let other people watch. Chip. **Chip** (00:00:59:13 - 00:01:01:09): We are living the dream. I definitely felt like. **Thomas** (00:01:01:09 - 00:01:02:09): We were in Hawaii. **Chip** (00:01:02:11 - 00:01:14:17): Dude, I can't okay this. So we have been doing, ladies and gentlemen, watching and listening right there. Thomas and I had just a let's just give you the old Christmas recap real quickly. **Thomas** (00:01:14:17 - 00:01:15:23): The Christmas ham. **Chip** (00:01:15:23 - 00:01:40:14): I'm going to glaze it for you right now. Oh, Thomas O'Brien and I met, roughly almost exactly a decade ago, 10.6 years ago. And, we've we've written on, television shows together. We've made television shows together. He was, my boss, the showrunner. We were out in L.A. writing on a great show. We were we were in it just all we've written for so many different types of shows over the years. **Thomas** (00:01:40:14 - 00:01:43:09): It's been we set up a show where you were the host. **Chip** (00:01:43:09 - 00:01:58:04): Yep. We set up a show where I was the host. It was I mean, we have we have walked the television walk. And then, during the pandemic, we were like, what are we going to do? And you have been obsessed with Hawaii. You just kept talking about it so much. Oh, which brings up something I wanna talk about later. But anyway, you're like, let's do comedy in Hawaii. And I was like, no, that's a dumb idea, because I think small. And this past year you're like, we're going to do this podcast, the summer podcast. We're going to talk about comedy and tropical travel, and then sort of like the season one sort of culmination will be you are going to go from being me, are going to go perform stand up comedy in Hawaii. And I was like, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I get sure it's never going to happen, but sure, we are now back from Hawaii. Yeah, right. Perform stand up comedy in Paradise with my wife, with you, with your wife and child. Your father. Just bunch of great people. And we spent Thanksgiving literally, in Paradise. And it was the, one of the best trips of my life. And I'm still reeling, even though it is 19 degrees in Philadelphia right now, I am still living in that 80 degree sun. **Thomas** (00:02:55:04 - 00:03:11:10): I know, dude, you can stay there in your mind. You can't. And we live on in the pictures. We're going to look at some of the pictures later on in the trip. But dude, thanks so much for taking this journey with me. I mean, like you were very nice and saying it was all my idea and I'm the only one that cares about the tropics and blah blah blah. That's not true. This was very authentic. **Chip** (00:03:13:12 - 00:03:14:01): You've just. **Thomas** (00:03:14:01 - 00:03:21:13): Yes, you've had East Coast tropical experiences. I've only had West Coast tropical experiences, which is Hawaii. **Chip** (00:03:21:15 - 00:03:36:19): Yes. I've always wanted to get out to Hawaii and just I obviously, you know, you just see it when you're it's the destination. And I just it's one of those things where it's like, oh, I guess I'm just never going to get out there, you know what? You know? And then you're like, I really want to go. And the people who talk about it talk about how magical it is. And then I get to experience it. And it was it was incredible. And, this this year leading up to it has been so much fun. And then just to come back and just have done it is it's it's been, such an amazing experience and I, I can't wait to do it again. I'm ready for the next trip. **Thomas** (00:03:52:19 - 00:04:00:20): I'm ready for the next trip. And that's that's the whole point is like, we only got this one life, and this is not going to be funny at all. This is just how I feel about things. **Chip** (00:04:00:20 - 00:04:01:12): Go for it. **Thomas** (00:04:01:14 - 00:04:21:13): If you can do things that you're excited about and you live like you should do it. Yeah, this is something that shouldn't, on paper exist. Us going to trap locations, tropical locations and doing comedy. But we wanted to, so we did, and we made it work. And the whole goal was to have it be successful enough for us to be able to do it again. And it it was triple that successful. I think we're, you know, we're aiming at doing at least three of these trips next year and you're all invited, like, we're trying to build this community of people that want to have these shared experiences that love the islands, love comedy, tropical travel and comedy are my two driving forces in terms of interest. And I was like, let's put them together. Chip, I need you, buddy. Let's put him together. We'll go out there. We'll do this first one. If it's a horrible failure or we don't like it, we can just throw it away. But at least we tried right? But we did it, buddy. **Chip** (00:04:58:19 - 00:05:00:09): Yeah, we did it. **Thomas** (00:05:00:09 - 00:05:14:15): And now we get to do some more of them. And we're putting some things in the works for 2026 right now. So, be on the lookout. We're going to be making some announcements hopefully sooner than later, especially if Mr. Chip Chantry gets his passport x. **Chip** (00:05:14:17 - 00:05:31:23): One thing I do have to update is my passport and the teleprompter. Right now Thomas is telling me, call to action, I am. We are wrapping up 2025 right now as a community, as a world, and you are probably looking ahead to 2026. I want to drop a few pounds. I want to get a new I want to get a promotion. I want to do this thing. Maybe you're looking at like, what are my vacations going to be for 2026? Stick with us. We, our plan is to do a couple of these. Why not come with us? To almost be your little, sort of tour guide, travel agent type situation. Come see a comedy show in a beautiful location, will chill out and, and have a great time in 2026. So if you like, I got a couple vacation days saved up. Let's let's do that. So, Yeah, stick with us. Make sure you follow us, on the socials. Subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven't already. And, we, we got we got some big things on the horizon. **Thomas** (00:06:08:14 - 00:06:22:02): Huge number of people listen to this thing. You can see our beautiful faces here on YouTube at Sun Pod. Go ahead and hit that subscribe button. As much as I hate saying crap like that, because it does help us out. **Chip** (00:06:22:02 - 00:06:22:17): Yes. **Thomas** (00:06:22:17 - 00:06:42:22): All right, well, we got to get this thing cooking today. We are going to be talking about all the stories from our trip. Like how often, as a grown up, do you get to spend a week with one of your best friends in an incredible location? And, you know, I'm not saying it was all roses. There may have been some big drama chip. **Chip** (00:06:43:00 - 00:06:45:07): Some thorns, some thorns on the beach. **Thomas** (00:06:45:07 - 00:07:05:17): Yeah. Every rose has its thorns. So, you know, there might be a lot of drama, a lot of intrigue, a couple of tips, some fun stories. We really did it all. This is the culmination of this year's dream. And we did it. And we had a great time. We did it with our families. So, we're going to show some pictures. We've got, a little bit of, you know, a slideshow situation set up a is it? Trust us. Don't go anywhere. **Chip** (00:07:13:14 - 00:07:15:04): You're just going to be funny. **Thomas** (00:07:15:06 - 00:07:17:05): These vacation photos. **Chip** (00:07:17:07 - 00:07:23:17): Yeah. Some are. Maybe. Let's just say, some are a little too hot for TV. Ooh. **Thomas** (00:07:23:19 - 00:07:27:13): A lot of people said this episode will never air on TV. **Chip** (00:07:27:16 - 00:07:35:12): No, because of the shock, the shocking graphic nature that you're going to witness. On the other side. **Thomas** (00:07:35:14 - 00:07:43:20): This is the summer Vegas where we talk about comedy and tropical travel. If you think those two things should go together, stay tuned. Front. **Chip** (00:07:43:20 - 00:07:51:21): Desk. Hi, this is Mr. Chantry in room 308. I was just calling to let you know that everything is completely perfect here. **Thomas** (00:07:51:23 - 00:07:58:23): You know what, Mr. Chancery? We get that a lot here in Hawaii. **Chip** (00:07:59:01 - 00:08:00:20): Also, can you set up a plunger. **Thomas** (00:08:00:22 - 00:08:02:03): And get that to. **Chip** (00:08:02:03 - 00:08:03:05): Jack Thomas? **Thomas** (00:08:03:05 - 00:08:20:04): We are back. It's episode 43. Can you, like, really wrap your mind around it? We did 41 episodes of the sunburnt podcast leading up to January 6th, even Paradise, including probably my favorite episode ever. One from Waikiki, baby. **Chip** (00:08:20:05 - 00:08:35:15): Live in Waikiki. Go back to that one. That's a great one. It's it's it's a short one, too. It's Thomas and I in his hotel room on the beach in Waikiki, overlooking the ocean. And, yeah, we're in the same room feeling that energy. Feeling that Hawaii action. **Thomas** (00:08:35:17 - 00:08:43:18): Episode 41. My dad was DP. He set that whole thing up. Yet on those amazing filters, all kinds of things you and I would never know how to do. **Chip** (00:08:43:23 - 00:08:51:16): No. God, no. I don't even know if this camera's working right now. This could be going to no one right now, and I would. I'd be none the wiser. **Thomas** (00:08:51:16 - 00:09:04:08): I will, you know, say with a fair amount of certainty that the viewers at home don't know this. We have had no less than three episodes just tanked by technical issues. **Chip** (00:09:04:10 - 00:09:09:19): Yes. Which I think actually for for a fledgling podcast. I don't think that is a terrible number. **Thomas** (00:09:09:20 - 00:09:13:21): Yeah, we're talking about with it, you know the 42 in the can. **Chip** (00:09:13:23 - 00:09:14:06): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:09:14:06 - 00:09:27:07): And we only lost three that we had to you know redo in some capacity. Not bad. Yeah. We've been through the gamut and we've come out stronger I think on the other side would you say we're stronger than we were 42 episodes ago? **Chip** (00:09:27:09 - 00:09:32:01): I will tell you, one of the things in 2026 is I'm going to physically get stronger. I will say. **Thomas** (00:09:32:01 - 00:09:33:22): That, oh my God, we're going to get so by. **Chip** (00:09:33:23 - 00:09:36:19): Hitting to the gym. Hitting the gym, hoard. **Thomas** (00:09:36:19 - 00:09:38:12): Toss and turn around. Chip. **Chip** (00:09:38:12 - 00:09:48:13): Yeah, I'm going to be throwing that copper. That's a that's a reference to the band live. Yeah. From their 1994 multi-million selling album. **Thomas** (00:09:48:15 - 00:09:54:08): It was a good one. I never understood what it meant. The throwing. **Chip** (00:09:54:08 - 00:10:07:17): Copper. It's when, the police are chasing you from ripping piping out of an abandoned house to sell it. Toss it out the window as to destroy the evidence. That's my that's my take on it. That's what I'm going to say. **Thomas** (00:10:07:21 - 00:10:21:10): So live was just watching cops. And they're like I've got an idea. I've got an idea. Yeah. Bad boys, bad boys. What you're gonna do. Yeah. That kind of had a reggae vibe. **Chip** (00:10:21:12 - 00:10:37:11): Oh, 100% Inner Circle that the boys from Inner Circle recorded that one. Yeah. I mean, they were not, Who did? Who let the dogs out? The Baha men, the Baha men. That's right. The Bahamian apologies all around people that I did not that I did not know that. **Thomas** (00:10:37:13 - 00:10:41:07): That collective really, took to the charts. Chip. **Chip** (00:10:41:09 - 00:10:54:14): It really did. Tom. Okay, Thomas. It's almost Christmas time. It's freezing here in Philadelphia. Yep. Where am I? Where am I? Hawaii, though? I'm still in Hawaii. In my head. **Thomas** (00:10:54:15 - 00:10:55:12): **Chip** (00:10:55:14 - 00:11:13:18): It's it was. It was the best. It was the best trip ever. Okay. Can I start out with this, though? I will say this, so my wife and I, Kim and I, we flew from Philly to Los Angeles. We spent the weekend in Los Angeles. Yep. And then flew to Hawaii. We were in Hawaii Monday to Monday, and I, you and I were on the same. We all took the same flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Yeah. On Monday, I don't know if it was late. It might have been the first flight we were on. But just to start out the vacation in a strange way, I. I got gaslit hard on the flight like hard gaslighting. **Thomas** (00:11:35:01 - 00:11:36:09): Okay, what does that mean? **Chip** (00:11:36:09 - 00:11:43:18): I don't think you were a part of this. I think this was the first flight. There was a lot of turbulence on the flight. **Thomas** (00:11:43:20 - 00:11:46:08): Oh, yeah. Our flight was smooth, baby. **Chip** (00:11:46:10 - 00:11:56:10): Okay. Yeah, it was smooth sailing. Mahalo. Thank you. It was very smooth sailing. However, although, by the way, two medical emergencies on our on our flight to Honolulu. **Thomas** (00:11:56:12 - 00:12:06:08): Yeah, it's always so unsettling, but, like, I had, my dad was in front of me. You with a camera behind me, and you just get the bag. Is there any medical personnel on the flight? **Chip** (00:12:06:10 - 00:12:10:16): And it's just like they're so calm about it. And the the calmer they are, the worse, you know it is. **Thomas** (00:12:10:18 - 00:12:11:11): Oh, yeah. **Chip** (00:12:11:12 - 00:12:15:08): Never got any confirmation. It. I'm assuming everything worked itself out. **Thomas** (00:12:15:08 - 00:12:31:20): Yeah. We were we were sitting you know, like how there's the the area like this. We were on an absolutely gigantic plane. It was one of the big boys. That's how I like to fly across the Pacific. I feel a wobble a little less. But we were sitting right by, I don't know, is it the galley? I have no idea. With the place where the, like, tendons. Yeah. Like kind of hang out and they have their snacks, and you can sometimes smell what they microwave and up there, of course. But I heard them talking like, I think the person ended up being okay. And also, if something's really wrong when you land, everybody stays on the plane and they rush that person off. And that's. **Chip** (00:12:53:00 - 00:12:53:12): The grounding. **Thomas** (00:12:53:12 - 00:13:12:19): So I think I think it was just like somebody got a little light headed. They felt like their chest might have been doing something. And, that did not go away quickly. But what we did hear was it was in front of us and that it was a woman. So not that like, okay. No, I was happy that a woman was in peril or whatever. I just knew that my dad could be mistaken for a lot of things at this stage of life. Yeah, but probably a woman's not one of them. **Chip** (00:13:22:01 - 00:13:23:18): A lady is not on that list. **Thomas** (00:13:23:19 - 00:13:26:11): Very, very masculine edge on that man. **Chip** (00:13:26:13 - 00:13:45:10): And I will say, Thomas and I, I you can edit this out. I hope you don't. Your father might be listening the world at large is listening. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I just. I want to give you your flowers. And I thought it was really. I don't know if I could do this in in your position, but what you did when they did. Come on. I think it was that second time when you're like, is there anybody, any doctors, nurses with medical training, does anybody know CPR? I saw you and you literally stood up and you said, well, if it helps, I have taken I have taken years of improv classes. **Thomas** (00:14:02:16 - 00:14:03:21): Yeah. **Chip** (00:14:03:22 - 00:14:25:04): And you're like, so I you know, I trained it. Yeah. I took a variety of improv classes. Yeah. Does that help? Can I, can I be of assistance? And they immediately told you to please go back to your seat, sit down and buckle your seatbelt. But I just thought the bravery on your end and your willingness to help a stranger with with your improv training was, commendable. **Thomas** (00:14:25:05 - 00:14:32:03): Yeah. Not a lot of people see a medical emergency break out and have the guts to ask for a suggestion. You know what I mean? Yeah. **Chip** (00:14:32:05 - 00:14:34:17): Yeah. Can I get an occupation? **Thomas** (00:14:34:19 - 00:15:01:18): Yeah. It is fun, though, like, I. I got into the improv. I'm a comedy writer. I had been doing that, professionally, but I wanted to learn to control the chaos. You know what I mean? Yes. The world is so chaotic. I wanted to thrive in that environment. So when I feel the snow globe, that is the people around me being shaken up, I like to offer my help. And then, of course, I add a little. Yes. And on top. **Chip** (00:15:06:03 - 00:15:26:14): And just I it's just that montage of you just sort of like with the chaos around you and you just like, naw, just getting ready slicking back your hair. Yep. Just double knot in those converse all stars, you know, just like I am ready to zip. I'm ready to zap. Yeah, I'm ready this up. And then I always like to. **Thomas** (00:15:26:14 - 00:15:33:02): Finish it off. You know, a medical emergency with a classic callback of, like, remember when this guy was alive? **Chip** (00:15:33:04 - 00:15:54:03): Yeah, yeah. He's flatlining. He's flatlining. Somebody wipe the scene. And you did it. Did a great job. You did a great job, Thomas. And, I think your daughter was there. And your wife. And just to see you be heroic like that was, you know, you know, my my wife was like, ye, you've taken standup classes in the past, and, kind of like you didn't say anything. I was like, you know, I'm not the hero that Thomas O'Brien is, but, I mean, yeah, you. **Thomas** (00:15:57:21 - 00:15:59:17): Guys use a microphone. I get it. **Chip** (00:15:59:19 - 00:16:00:16): We do it. It was. **Thomas** (00:16:00:20 - 00:16:02:23): It was more primed for what I do. **Chip** (00:16:03:01 - 00:16:18:01): Correct. But if there was a, one of those defibrillators that then I know how to disassemble, a microphone, put those little wires on the chest and, you know, give you a little old, give the old the, the old Energizer bunny, if you know what I'm saying. **Thomas** (00:16:18:01 - 00:16:19:04): Oh, that's true, that. **Chip** (00:16:19:06 - 00:16:26:18): If I can use a 30 year old reference. So, but other than that flight. Very smooth sailing besides that one person. **Thomas** (00:16:26:20 - 00:16:32:08): Yeah, because we were on that big boy. Dude, you get that big plane, you get that smooth energy, though. **Chip** (00:16:32:08 - 00:16:54:03): So when I was flying across the United States from Philly to Los Angeles, a number of a number of times, the pilot had to get on and was like, I'm sorry, ladies, gentlemen, we have to, put those seatbelts back on. I apologize about all the turbulence. Once again, we're just going through some rough hours, so if everybody could have a seat. We're really going through some turbulence. I would say no less than five times. The pilot got on to say that, Thomas, I want you to ask me a question. Now, ask me how many times I felt a single twinge of turbulence that entire flight. Ask me. **Thomas** (00:17:11:10 - 00:17:15:06): Chip, how many times did you feel a single twinge of zero. **Chip** (00:17:15:11 - 00:17:36:21): Zero times. No turbulence. But this pilot kept apologizing for it and saying, we got to sit back down. I'm sorry about the rough ride. And literally, like strangers were just turning and looking at each other to be like, there's no way I we don't know where this is coming from. There is no terms. And like, again, maybe you could say, well, he's a good pilot because he sees it coming up. So he descends or ascends or something like that. No. I've had so much bad turbulence on flights in the past. No, I'm not a not a single bump of the road. And the entire time, just apologies. I'm sorry about all the servants we got. All sit back down again. I think he was it to, quote 30 Rock. I think he was maybe, issuing Sky law. Maybe. Maybe was that maybe somebody was being a a bad birdie and he would just want everybody sit down and be quiet. **Thomas** (00:18:04:02 - 00:18:06:11): Was it Carol who told us about Skylar? **Chip** (00:18:06:13 - 00:18:09:22): A1 but yeah. Portrayed by the one and only mister Matt Damon. **Thomas** (00:18:09:22 - 00:18:11:01): Matt Damon. **Chip** (00:18:11:03 - 00:18:20:18): Yeah. So, Yeah, but. So that was a weird way, just to start out the trip, but then it was, literal smooth sailing from that. So let's. We got to get in. Let's start talking about. **Thomas** (00:18:20:18 - 00:18:30:07): I think let's real quick because I think we could be labor this and talk about it a lot. Let's real quick talk about the show okay. Let's let's get into it. So like so. **Chip** (00:18:30:13 - 00:18:51:16): Just long story long, we were in Hawaii from Monday to Monday. At least I was. You got to stick around Hawaii. You went to the Big Island for a little bit after that. But we were together in Hawaii Monday to Monday. On Wednesday, which is the night before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving eve, when a lot of people are just going to a small town bar to talk to those people that they went to high school with that they don't really want to talk to. **Thomas** (00:18:51:22 - 00:18:52:18): Yeah, we. **Chip** (00:18:52:18 - 00:19:06:08): Were in literal Paradise, at the Blue Note jazz Club in Waikiki, in the outrigger, right on the beach. Yeah. And, I performed comedy, in in Hawaii. **Thomas** (00:19:06:09 - 00:19:31:18): Yeah. I just want to give a little bit of a setup. Like, we knew we were coming into, a little bit of a battle here, right? Yeah. It's just like it's a new market for you. It is so far away, and it's largely a transient community there in Waikiki. Like, of course, Honolulu. Great comedy town like. And I will say the locals that showed up were on fire, too. Those folks love to laugh. **Chip** (00:19:35:06 - 00:19:36:10): Yeah, yeah. Great. **Thomas** (00:19:36:13 - 00:19:49:02): It was so awesome. But, like, right there in Waikiki, who's, I imagine, like hanging out at the Blue Note jazz club is like kind of the the 200, 300,000 people that are staying at those hotels right there. **Chip** (00:19:49:03 - 00:19:55:14): Right? Yeah. They're from we met people from Indianapolis, from Philadelphia, from Arizona, you know, so they're tourists. **Thomas** (00:19:55:20 - 00:20:19:08): There's always so like, we knew that our goal, what we had to do is make Chip Chantry for the three days we were there before the show, the most famous man in Waikiki. And we did that by flooding everybody's cell phones with your stand up clips with, videos that we were shooting and editing and putting up day and date. **Chip** (00:20:19:13 - 00:20:26:18): Same day I was doing videos on the beach. You did videos with me literally in the middle of the ocean with your GoPro. **Thomas** (00:20:26:18 - 00:20:47:18): Yep, yep. Yeah. And so we have all these assets and then we are just putting paid advertisements and just pounding this like strip of beach with chip trees face, thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people are seeing your face. Two, three four, five times in a row. **Chip** (00:20:47:20 - 00:20:48:22): Apologies for that. **Thomas** (00:20:49:00 - 00:21:20:15): Yeah. And then on top of that, we've got electronic posters welcoming people to chips and trees. Thanksgiving in Paradise everywhere they can possibly be. So like to the point where my daughter, who is a little over one and a half, she knows you. She's seen you a couple of times in real life. Now she's been hanging out with you, sharing all of her meals with you, and she sees you, and then she turns the corner, and there's a big old poster with your face on it, and she goes, hi, Chip. Hi, Chip. And then she walks around the corner, sees another poster. It's you. Hi, Chip. **Chip** (00:21:26:21 - 00:21:33:13): Hi. Just just very nonchalant. She she was not starstruck in the least, which I really respect about your one year old daughter. **Thomas** (00:21:33:15 - 00:22:00:11): She's getting the waves down. She's getting the wave. She's getting the name. But like, she had the opportunity to, like, in any given hour, drop 18, 20 high chips on, these posters. That was just around. What a bizarre like thing I never could have imagined would happen in my lifetime. That I would have a one year old daughter who's running around Waikiki saying hi to one of my good buddies posters. Yeah, it was so fun. And just like that, I know, I know that like, especially since, the Netflix thing, like, you get, you get a lot more second glances than a little bit. **Chip** (00:22:13:01 - 00:22:15:07): Yeah. You used to have time. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:22:15:08 - 00:22:27:12): But Waikiki Monday through Thursday was second glance central for you, buddy? It was just the double. I was sitting next to double take. Everybody was like, whoa. **Chip** (00:22:27:13 - 00:22:36:21): Whoa, there's that guy. Like, so much so that I had to stop shoplifting in the ABC store. Yeah. Eyes on me constantly. **Thomas** (00:22:36:21 - 00:22:43:19): They had eyes in the ABC. The C is not the letter C, it stands for C. I see your ship. **Chip** (00:22:43:19 - 00:22:44:21): I see you, baby. **Thomas** (00:22:45:01 - 00:22:48:04): The ABC store. **Chip** (00:22:48:06 - 00:22:49:00): Yes. **Thomas** (00:22:49:02 - 00:23:09:10): So. So we go. It was super fun. It felt like we were doing something a little weird. It feels like cheating a little bit, but we got the word out. Yeah. And then, you know, before the show, the Blue Note was great. The whole time, they, they let us in. We had a wonderful green room area, **Chip** (00:23:09:12 - 00:23:11:01): You and your pops backstage. **Thomas** (00:23:11:03 - 00:23:26:09): And my dad being in backstage of, like, a cool comedy club, at a comedy show. I mean, he's in Waikiki, as you can imagine. Anybody. But my dad was so pumped up. So thank you so much. I know, the green room can be a sacred space for a lot, so. **Chip** (00:23:26:09 - 00:23:31:02): I was so glad to have him back there. You not so much, but him. It was just this calming presence. **Thomas** (00:23:31:02 - 00:23:34:13): Well, I was mostly using your private restroom. **Chip** (00:23:34:15 - 00:23:35:21): There was a lot of that. **Thomas** (00:23:35:23 - 00:24:03:14): There was a lot of that. I do not like the public stuff. I like your private restroom. And then, dude, the crowds showed up. They were hot. They were ready to laugh. And I will say, like, just a surprising amount of folks from the northeast. Like, I could not believe the amount of people that came up to me that, like, had a the I will say there was like people who saw the ads and showed up, thought it sounded like a good time. But then there was two other, camps of folks that really showed up, and it was people from the northeast, because you do have a very big presence, especially like with the Philadelphia material that's gone a little viral in the past. So there was those folks, and then there was families with teenage sons who dragged everybody there to see the guy from tires. Those were there. **Chip** (00:24:25:21 - 00:24:40:19): Was a lot of like, yeah, there was a lot of like young sons, older parents like that situation, like young adult, kids and and their parents there, which was fun and like, I think I, I think I can also do comedy that hopefully reaches all of them. Oh, dude. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:24:40:21 - 00:24:54:03): It really did. It really did. There was, it is funny. You do fixate on, like, the one guy that's having a good time. And there was definitely, like one dad. **Chip** (00:24:54:05 - 00:24:58:06): Oh, that one dad. And he was the guy. I could tell that too. He was the guy off to the side, right? Yeah. **Thomas** (00:24:58:08 - 00:25:09:14): Yeah. Well, yeah, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's like his whole family was dying, and I'm not sure if he, like, you know, stepped on a sea urchin. Maybe he got a jellyfish. Dang. **Chip** (00:25:09:16 - 00:25:26:10): I did see him peeing on his own leg during the show, so I think maybe, you know, so there's some medical issues going on. Yeah, but, he they he and the mom were, like, joking around. They saw me and they kind of, like, grabbed me as I was walking through the showroom at one point before the show, and they were kind of like joking around. I think he was like they were the jokesters. And then you know how that works. Then when you get on stage and then when they're not the center of attention anymore, sometimes that can be a little hurtful. But I get it, I understand it, but but. **Thomas** (00:25:39:19 - 00:25:52:19): There was just a hot or a hot room with people going nuts. And, I just focus on this one guy who just kind of arms crossed. I refuse to have a good time while his, his family's going nuts, and, I just kept I looked at him. **Chip** (00:25:52:19 - 00:26:00:10): I'm the silverback that is, threatening his, his his flock, if you will, because I believe it is a flock of. **Thomas** (00:26:00:10 - 00:26:06:11): Correct. Yeah. He's like, I could have. He's like, I'm funny. I could have worked at this for 20 years and headlined the balloon. **Chip** (00:26:06:11 - 00:26:07:22): Now you know who else could have done it? **Thomas** (00:26:07:22 - 00:26:09:04): Thomas, who. **Chip** (00:26:09:06 - 00:26:11:08): Is Cathy Tanaka? Our opener. **Thomas** (00:26:11:10 - 00:26:20:03): Oh, yeah. Cathy Tanaka came out. She absolutely crashed. It's so funny. Did it go funny? And also so nice? What, what a lovely human being. It's great. **Chip** (00:26:20:03 - 00:26:35:15): So, so look up Cathy Tanaka. She's great. She's so funny. She. And then. Okay, I got to talk about my set real quickly. And then jump. Feel free to talk about anything else about that, but, like, I, I wasn't. I thought she was going to get off at one point and she got off at a different point. I wasn't like it kind of took me off guard. I wasn't ready to like, jump on stage right away. So I was like, oh. And I was kind of running like, because usually it's like you kind of have your little routine. You're like, okay, got this, got this. I got my, you, my, my, my notes or my time or my phone. I got my water bottle or whatever. It's I kind of had to grab that quickly. And as you know, it's a high stage. It's, you know, because it's a jazz club. It goes up kind of high. There's yeah, bunch of steps. So I run up and I will say that, Joel, the, the tech guy. Yeah. The producer at the Blue Note. Yeah, very nice guy, but he was like the one rule I got, he's man, the one where I got. So it's a big wide stage. Big giant stage. Because again, they have to house a big jazz band. They have like, what I would consider a baby grand piano or grandpa. It's a big, big piano on stage that just. Yeah, you're not going to move that piano. But he does have a nice cover on it. And he's like, my only rule, my only rule. You do not put any liquids on the piano. Set it on the stool, whatever. You don't put anything. So it's then he he literally said he was like, it's the nicest piano in the Pacific Ocean. So, you know, like in the entire Pacific, you don't put any liquids on the piano. He's like, got it? I want to be respectful of that. Yeah, absolutely. So I run up on stage because I like wasn't quite expected to go up and literally. And the stool Kathy which is fight I mean, she doesn't ask you, but like I like to move the stool kind of right next to me. I can set my water down. Yeah. And it was still over by the piano and I'm running up on stage. I'm kind of going quick, and I set my water bottle down on the stool, not the piano. Yeah. First thing I do is knock over the water bottle, and water just sloshes under the piano. Like, not a lot. I pick it up quickly, but I was just like, right away. I was like, okay, so Joel hates me because I didn't put liquid on the piano, but now there's a little puddle of water under the piano and I say, yeah, the one rule I broke, you know, but so. So then it just throws me off. And then the, the first like minute or two. And you know how this is sometimes too. It was like it was a, I was like, just getting my bearings. Yeah. I had a blast. They were just it was so much fun. The crowds were they were just they were there to have a good time, as was I. **Thomas** (00:28:40:13 - 00:28:48:16): A hot crowd. And also there was like just this big sense of relief, you know, it's like we've been building up to that for a minimum 41 weeks. **Chip** (00:28:48:18 - 00:29:06:02): And that's the thing too, because it's just like, what if I flew all the way out here? We have done all this lead up. And these people have paid good money to be here. And, and this is the reason I'm in Hawaii. And then I take it like that. I just nightmares for months, Thomas. Like nightmares for months. **Thomas** (00:29:06:04 - 00:29:06:11): Yeah. **Chip** (00:29:06:12 - 00:29:20:01): And I walked out after that hour five and was, like, taking pictures with people. And they were just like the nice people get to chat with everybody and like, it was, it was it was the best. It was just it was such a relief to have to have have that go well. **Thomas** (00:29:20:01 - 00:29:38:05): So yeah. No, it was so it was so exciting. But it was also such a relief to have it in the rearview and just be able to sink into that Hawaiian vacation. And I know for sure, like afterwards we went to the beach bar at the Mona Surfrider. You, me, Kim, my dad. Yeah. My wife was a trooper all night. She took care of the baby, shooting me. You see, the shows they, like showed up. We got to show her around the club and stuff, but then they. They had to take off and, do just that. That was the. It wasn't the first drink. It wasn't the first meal. But boy, did we have a my Thai boy did. We had it was the burger. And just like it was all behind us, man, we didn't have to borrow it. We had to do anything but have the best time we've been waiting to have all year long. **Chip** (00:30:06:14 - 00:30:31:12): I still remember that entire meal where we were just again, it's 10:00 at night, whatever time it was, and just sitting there under that banyan tree at the moment, right next door and having that burger, having that my tire too. And I just remember I was like, I was thinking in my head. I was like, I hope you guys don't think I am upset or, weird about my performance or whatever, because I was just in. I was such an shock and just so numb, taking it all in and then just being in that electric jungle. I'm going to call Thomas an electric shock. Because that banyan tree with the beautiful lights over it. Yeah. And you're just like, sitting there on the beach, having a mai tai and the best burger I've ever had and just thinking like, oh, my vacation is officially started. Yeah, I just had a great shows and it was just like, it was just such a relief and just a breath of fresh air. And I was just like, it was the most relaxing, I think ever been in my life. **Thomas** (00:31:00:06 - 00:31:18:23): Dad, I yeah, it was it was truly a special night. And it just, you know, it it doesn't exist in nature. Like it was a thing we had this goal to do. We went out and did it. And, I think that's all I'll really say about it. I think we can move on, because I could talk forever like it was. It was an amazing night, but we did it. You crushed the crowd was hot. The venue was beautiful. It was right there on the beach. And before we did the show. And right after we did the show and during the show, we were in Waikiki. We shot promos in the Pacific Ocean in 78 degree water, which is still like, I don't know, there's part of me that can't really believe it. Like, that's what we were doing for work that day. **Chip** (00:31:46:13 - 00:31:47:05): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:31:47:07 - 00:31:58:22): And it was like it was the goal. I was like, we want to do this thing there. But, you know, just diamond heads in the background, a couple of buddies floating in Waikiki with Diamond Head behind us. **Chip** (00:31:58:22 - 00:32:02:19): I was yeah, right. I have some photos of that, by the way. **Thomas** (00:32:02:21 - 00:32:21:22): Oh, yeah. Beautiful, dude. We'll get them in. There's also like the there's the new promo video on our website. Yeah. Or on our YouTube channel for people who haven't subscribed, I've just us floating a rip in a promo for the summer podcast and Waikiki. Dude, it was, I don't know, chef's kiss. I loved it. **Chip** (00:32:21:23 - 00:32:35:06): And thank you for just putting it all together and just making those arrangements, producing the thing. And just it was I it's one of the top shows in my life just in general. It's going to be, be such a memory. **Thomas** (00:32:35:10 - 00:32:51:09): Well also and we got to bring people with us, dude. Yeah, we had to bring people with us some home, a home crowd advantage in a foreign land. And, then we, you know, it was just to have a group of people to spend the rest of the week with and go around and see the island and do the different things. It was just a dream come true, dude. And I'm just so excited to keep building and like, like we said. **Chip** (00:32:56:13 - 00:32:58:07): And get more people out for the next one. **Thomas** (00:32:58:08 - 00:33:18:18): Yeah, yeah, it was successful enough to do more. So we are like putting together hopefully 3 in 2026 and yeah, like like I just want to keep building this and hopefully we can have the same kind of traction, grow in stature and get to a point where this is just, you know, something we do regularly. Yeah. With, with everybody else. Yeah. Yeah. So dude, that was awesome. But I think so. We have two directions we can go. Do we want to just talk about the trip in general? Like what happened when we got there and then start working forward chronologically now that we've covered the the main piece, the show, or do we want to just jump into some photos first? **Chip** (00:33:41:23 - 00:33:46:21): Do you mind? Do you mind if we do some photos? I think I got some highlights of the photos and then maybe we, we go from there. **Thomas** (00:33:46:23 - 00:33:48:08): Yeah, let's do the photos. Let's get in here. **Chip** (00:33:48:09 - 00:34:12:22): I'm so excited. And by the way, if you are listening here, you can check out these photos on, on the show on YouTube. So make sure you check, check that out or, we're going to make it so I'm it's my it's literally my career to paint a picture with words Thomas. So don't feel like you have to, you can be listening and I hope I, I give you that experience, overall, so. But I just I got some stories from the island, from our, from our trip. **Thomas** (00:34:18:16 - 00:34:35:04): Good God, Chip, I'm sorry. Like, I live in these pictures, like, I can. I mean, I have a whole other life where I do work, and I have friends, and I have a family, but where I really live is in these pictures of us in Hawaii. **Chip** (00:34:35:06 - 00:34:58:17): Okay. Which I will say, here's something that we have not talked about yet. Thomas. Post trip and I'm so excited. You need to share the link with me and maybe the world. Okay. When Thomas and I worked together on a show in Los Angeles. So first of all, we were in beautiful Los Angeles. We are in Burbank, where it was sunny and 75 every single day during the winter, had a great time. You would sort of have this moment of moment of Zen to sort of, meditative. Every morning we would get in, we'd start work, and then you would just sort of like, we were in the Comedy Garage. It's called the car. It was literally a big garage kind of hangar thing where we had a bunch of desks and you would be at your computer in the corner, and you just really be intense. I didn't know if you were crunching numbers, what you were doing. Tell the world what you were doing, Thomas. **Thomas** (00:35:24:00 - 00:35:30:00): Every day I would, it was back. And what was that like 2017. **Chip** (00:35:30:00 - 00:35:30:18): 2018. **Thomas** (00:35:30:19 - 00:35:52:10): 2018? The Mona Surfrider, where the beach bar is, right next to the outrigger, where the Blue Note is. Had a, beach camp where it was just set up in the hotel, and you could see the beach and the ocean and a show show runner. Pretty stressful job by a lot. We had we had a lot going on. We had a great team on that show. But like I, I realized that I could do better for myself and everyone if like, I kind of manage some of the stress. So one of the things I would do is I would, I would mandate at the same time every day that I get 15 minutes to go just spend on the beach in real time. **Chip** (00:36:12:06 - 00:36:16:22): Did yeah, I would get take 50. That's something they still do. Do they still do that? **Thomas** (00:36:17:00 - 00:36:27:20): Nope. They popped it down. There's a lot of hotels that still have them I think. Okay. But like know it was a special time, special place. Like I needed it then. I don't think I had a lot of that. They were. **Chip** (00:36:27:20 - 00:36:28:20): Doing the tools. **Thomas** (00:36:28:22 - 00:36:50:15): Or the maturity to, to handle those types of things at the time. And that that was one of my things. Like I would just literally, call it meditation, call it whatever you want. I would put on my headphones. I, I had enough seniority in the project to have, like, pretty much the only office, you know. Right. And, nobody could see my screen. I did not know. It appeared that I looked like I was a psychopath who was just like. **Chip** (00:36:59:17 - 00:37:04:11): I thought you were. You were hard at work. You were just like, sort of, you know, you were just very focused for those 15 minutes. **Thomas** (00:37:04:11 - 00:37:16:20): Yeah, most, most of the time I was pretty hard at work. But yeah, no, I was I every day, 15 minutes I would spend in Waikiki, remembering vacations I'd had with my then girlfriend, now wife, now. **Chip** (00:37:16:20 - 00:37:17:04): Wife. **Thomas** (00:37:17:09 - 00:37:28:05): And, Yeah, dude, it really I mean, it helped me, I think, and I think it helped the show and it helped everybody else to have me not be a walking, talking ball of stress and anxiety. **Chip** (00:37:28:07 - 00:37:32:10): Absolutely, absolutely. Now we can live in these photos, buddy. **Thomas** (00:37:32:16 - 00:37:49:18): Yeah. No way. We got him. And we've, we've shared I mean, hundreds of photos already, and we haven't even, like, curated all of them yet. No, but you have curated a hot, hot group of photos here, and we're just going to we're just going to get right into it. But what do you say? **Chip** (00:37:49:20 - 00:38:05:18): I'm going to blow through a couple of these. All right. And, with your help of, forwarding the photos. And again, if you're just listening to this, I'm going to paint a picture for you. But again, go to our YouTube to find that out. Okay. So this first picture is a picture of me and my wife Kim, with our leis that you shared with us. We're wearing lays on the beach. This is at the Moana, where you were staying right next to our hotel on the beach. And the. So this was our first lunch. It was our first meal in Hawaii that you told us we had to have. I had the burger. The best burger I've ever had. The my ties. And I will say that the reason I picked this exact photo to start out with is because I think I look very good at it. I gotta be honest with you now. I think it caught my good side, caught that charming smile of mine, and I wanted to share it with the world and show them what a handsome fella I am. That's that's the reason I'm going with that one. But that's our first day. Our first meal in Hawaii. First time on the beach ever. **Thomas** (00:38:41:20 - 00:39:04:03): The hibiscus flower looks amazing on you and Kim. Everybody's looking good. But like the it's a meaningful picture. Dude, this is the A. We talked about how to spend your first moments in Waikiki. We went over it 2 or 3 times on the podcast leading up, and it was get to the beach bar, have a mai tai, have a burger. I mean, right. **Chip** (00:39:05:06 - 00:39:06:15): The early or. **Thomas** (00:39:06:17 - 00:39:35:06): The early check. And right to your right in this picture is diamond had just peeking up over the edge with that amazing blue water on that white sandy beach. And you were coming from Philadelphia stopping in what was a pretty gloomy, rainy Los Angeles. It was. And then being deposited into perfect blue skies. We've got the boats sailing out, taking tourists on trips around that portion of the island. We've got people relaxing on the sand. There is sunscreen everywhere you go. There's a ton of just tropical drinks being cooked up right next to us. And you are there. And this is your first opportunity to really start to realize this week is going to be something different than I've done before. You're rocking a Hawaiian, which we always, we always, prescribe for, depression and or travel where, and, dude, this was just said I have the same exact picture from the first time I went. And also, if you look closely at our thumbnails, I am not joking you when I say that that back wall and those umbrella supports are in probably 4 or 5 of our thumbnails of the of the 41 episodes we've done, this means it all. Dude, I love it. That beach. I'm going to say it right now. The beach bar in the day or at night when it's all lit up with the banyan tree. Probably my my favorite place in the world. **Chip** (00:40:35:17 - 00:40:40:21): It's it's one of mine, too. It's just it's such a great, great chill, location. **Thomas** (00:40:41:01 - 00:40:43:05): To hold on, but, leave the. **Chip** (00:40:43:05 - 00:40:46:05): Booking, speak at your locations. Go to the next slide. **Thomas** (00:40:46:05 - 00:40:47:23): Thomas. Let's go. Baby, this. **Chip** (00:40:47:23 - 00:41:08:19): Is also the first thing. Here's the first sunset. This is the first sunset over the Pacific standing on Waikiki Beach. Which such a cool thing that just the island, or at least Waikiki, just sort of shuts down for about a half hour or so. Yeah. Where everybody just goes out to the beach and watches the sunset, as we did every single night. The one night you guys weren't. It was the day I think we traveled the island. You guys were still out? **Thomas** (00:41:13:09 - 00:41:14:00): Yeah. **Chip** (00:41:14:02 - 00:41:38:23): Kim and I actually went a step further from the beach. Literally took our floats out, which we're going to see in just a second. But we were floating in the ocean as we watched the sun go down, which was just pretty monumental. But this first one was maybe my favorite sunset. And, you can see I captured, I think, very artistically regular, Ansel Adams over here, that sailboat that's going across the horizon. And I even have a couple where it literally is right in front of it. It eclipses the sun, if you will. But he is the better photo. Do you think that guy with that sailboat does that intentionally each night? Like I know people are on the beach right by the outrigger. Then what I'm going to say I just this exact angle. So I'm going to get my little sailboat in everybody's, sunset shots. I, I think that guy does it on purpose. **Thomas** (00:42:03:20 - 00:42:20:11): I think it's a value add to the community. I think if he is doing it on purpose, it's to be positive. I don't think it's a look at me, look at me thing. I think it's okay. I think people enjoy this. There really is a vibe of like, I don't know, it's almost a religious ceremony. **Chip** (00:42:20:17 - 00:42:21:16): But really is. **Thomas** (00:42:21:16 - 00:42:47:01): Everybody just comes out and shares in this, beautiful thing that happens on a regular basis. Like, you can set your, your watch to it, you know, when sunsets are going to be and everybody just goes outside and enjoys it together. And, I don't know, it really does feel like, you know, it was more than us watching it, like our little, our little crew that we're rolling with, before the show. **Chip** (00:42:47:02 - 00:42:51:16): It's everybody. Everybody walks out there, boom, sees it, and then back to what they're doing. **Thomas** (00:42:51:17 - 00:42:56:20): Yeah. If that was what church felt like, I might go yep. **Chip** (00:42:56:22 - 00:43:00:04): Yeah, yeah, that's what it be. And no donations. **Thomas** (00:43:00:06 - 00:43:04:00): Yeah. And, they didn't ask for any of that sweet, sweet cash. **Chip** (00:43:04:02 - 00:43:06:20): I will say what a time to be a pickpocket, though. I will. **Thomas** (00:43:06:20 - 00:43:07:19): Say that. Oh, dude. **Chip** (00:43:07:19 - 00:43:26:07): Yeah, I think that's. That be a if this comedy thing doesn't work out. This podcast, I think we just moved to Waikiki and just live is, I'll call it sunset pickpockets. Everybody staring off into the ocean. We can just bump into some people. Boom. Rich man Thomas, we're going to be rich men very quickly. The sunset. **Thomas** (00:43:26:07 - 00:43:49:02): Boys. Yeah, the sunset boys. If you're willing to ruin something special, you can make a lot of money. I think we've seen that time and time again. Of course. And, Yeah. Dude, when the cash grab comes in, we can find something so wonderful. So miraculous that it lulls the common man into a coma and we can take their precious valuables. **Chip** (00:43:49:04 - 00:44:10:14): Beautiful. Speaking of taking their precious valuables, go to the next slide. We're not gonna spend too much time on this. It's just you. Me? In front of the Blue Note jazz club in the lobby of the outrigger. Inside there is where we, where we pulled off some, some comedy from the East Coast, from the mainland and, and had a had a complete blast. So it was just it was it was so much fun to see. It was just it's also it never. Yeah. Is lost on me when I see my face on a photo especially there's big like, you know, electric the screens with just there's chips. You're smiling down upon us. That was so cool to see. So I don't take much more time on that one. Let's, let's head to this next one time. This one is. **Thomas** (00:44:30:00 - 00:44:36:21): But we are going to make the promise that next year, whatever version Chip Chantry is Thanksgiving a Paradise takes. **Chip** (00:44:36:23 - 00:44:37:06): Yes. **Thomas** (00:44:37:06 - 00:44:47:03): We will each have 20 to 35 pounds of lean muscle. On top of what you're seeing here. Right. That's the that's going to be jacked. **Chip** (00:44:47:05 - 00:44:48:16): Jacked next year. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:44:48:17 - 00:44:49:02): Yep. **Chip** (00:44:49:02 - 00:44:50:10): Ripping out of those Hawaiians. **Thomas** (00:44:50:10 - 00:44:58:22): And we're going to be wearing the same size shirts though, like I've got it all mapped out. Yeah. We're going to be big, beautiful and a whole lot of fun. **Chip** (00:44:59:00 - 00:45:14:15): I love it. All right. This next one is me. Okay. This is one of the most special photos for me. This is of me standing on the beach outside of my hotel. So, by the way, we were at neighboring hotel. So. Yeah. You were at the Moana Surfrider? Yeah, I was at the outrigger. It's basically the same hotel. They're right next to each other. **Thomas** (00:45:15:13 - 00:45:22:11): They're right next to each other. But you were performing at the outrigger. Yeah. So the outrigger took care of you real nice. **Chip** (00:45:22:16 - 00:45:47:19): Real, real good, real good. So this was Thursday morning. So we did the show Wednesday night. This is Thursday, Thanksgiving morning. This is the morning. Thanksgiving. The sun is just a bit. So I'm looking out on the beach over Diamondhead. The mountain. You are, you're looking at the sun behind it. The sun's just about to come up over it, and it's just such a it's my favorite photo because I went down, you and I, the next morning. Yeah. Thursday morning, you and I, after our big show that we were leading up to for a year, we decided to do A5K. We ran A5K in Waikiki, which was gorgeous and so much fun running in this park next to the ocean half the time. Yeah, it was the best. But I showed up a little bit early and, to pick to pick you up. We're going to walk over together because we just had to walk over, and I just went down on the beach first and just hung out there, and it was the first time where I really got to be there during the day, where I was like, oh, my job is done. Vacation started. It's the most, beautiful, just like calming moment that that I ever had. It was just, it was the best. Yeah. So yeah. So go, go to the next one. Thomas. Who? So. Okay, if you're watching this, you get to zoom in on this one. I like it. Just looks like a shot, but an aerial view from the ocean. You can see a palm tree and then just nothingness. It's just the Pacific Ocean. But if you zoom in, you're going to see two very happy gentlemen on their floats, on their inflatables, out in the lake, in hundreds of, like, yards out from the beach, just way out there just floating. That is a picture that my wife took from our eighth floor balcony over the ocean. She spotted us somehow. You're basically just ants in the ocean. You and I think it's when we were actually, filming some of our promos, with the GoPro, but, that's just us floating in the, in the ocean. Just, just amazing. It's, it was so much fun. And, go to the next, go to next is. **Thomas** (00:47:28:21 - 00:47:32:05): It's the color of water, man. Like that, I guess. Doesn't look. **Chip** (00:47:32:07 - 00:47:32:13): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:47:32:14 - 00:47:33:19): Oh, the floats, baby. **Chip** (00:47:33:22 - 00:47:48:05): There's the floats. That's just our floats that, Kim and I bought. Okay, so I got to tell the story. Now, this was this for my wife. I did not know about this. She did not know, but this. You told us you're like, all right, go to the ABC store. This is the thing everybody has to do to make it the best vacation ever. Go to the ABC. By the way. Look up the ABC store at home. It's so much fun. It's, It's it's they're everywhere. There's they're everywhere in Waikiki and in Hawaii. They're basically convenience stores, but they're bigger. They're beach stores, convenience stores, food stores, the first aid stuff, you know, they the pharmacy, they have everything you need in this tiny little place, including these floats. Look at these floats. How much? How much? I'm going to infomercial. How much would you pay? They're 15 bucks total. And that includes the dollar that it cost. And where they will blow it up for you in store. And then you just have these things where you can just take them down to the water, you throw them in, you lay back, and you just float away on these things. And Thomas, you told us you're like, there, go by them. And we went down there and my wife was like, I don't know if we need to pay this money for it. It's like, we're only here for a week. We're not going to be able to take them home with us. We can't fit them in the in our suitcases. Why are we doing this? And I was like, Kim, let me just. I'm going to spring for them. They're only 15 bucks each. Let's do it. And she's like, fine. Within 10s of her getting on that float in the ocean for the first time, she was like, this is the best investment we've ever made in our lives. It's the most fun, relaxing thing just sitting on these floats. There's little cup holders there if you want to take a drink. **Thomas** (00:49:07:07 - 00:49:07:14): Yeah. **Chip** (00:49:07:14 - 00:49:32:00): And we would just literally go out off the beach and literally just sit there and float in the waves and you would it would just totally change your day. You're like, we'd be in the hotel or we'd be coming back from breakfast or whatever, like, want to go for a float? You just boom, change your clothes, grab that, go down the elevator with those things, and you're on the beach and you just float for an hour, and then you just. All right, let's go back upstairs and just proceed with the rest of our day. With your blood pressure, 30 degrees lower. **Thomas** (00:49:38:18 - 00:49:56:03): Yeah, it will turn it down 30. And I, one of the best things about this trip is that, honestly, I have somebody else I can talk to about a Waikiki float. Like even people that have been like, don't we? When you go on a trip with somebody, you get, like, a shared terminology. Dude, you have this shorthand you can talk about. And yeah, it's just paying dividends well into, you know, I think when did you get you got back like two weeks ago at this point. **Chip** (00:50:04:05 - 00:50:05:03): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:50:05:05 - 00:50:27:00): Yeah. So like I've been back for you know a week at this point and yeah dude. And we can still just have those conversations and know exactly what we're talking about. And I floating in Waikiki also another thing that we never talked about but like, reason for the floats is they're still a little like, volcanic rock, on the bottom of Waikiki Beach. And depending on, like, what the sand profile is, they, like, keep pulling sand in off the, you know, you know, from out in the ocean to build up that beach. And sometimes it gets a little thin, and you can, you can really hit your tootsies on some hard rocks. Does not happen if you're floating. Baby. Float right in Waikiki is, you know, it's a it's a dream experience for me, man, I freaking love. I mean. **Chip** (00:50:51:00 - 00:51:06:14): What you had told us to do, which we did, which was so cool, was, again, we could deflate these things, but there's still. It's hard, you know, we don't have a lot of space in our suitcases. You're like, look, they're 15 bucks each. That's all they are on your last day. Hand them off to another lucky group of people. Yeah. And that's what we found. This couple that was sort of waiting out in the ocean. We're like, hey, we're leaving tomorrow. Do you guys want these? And they were just so appreciative for the like, oh my God, this is great. And then we hand it off to them and they're like, we're going to hand it off to the next person when yeah, when we did it. So right now somebody could be floating in the Pacific with our floats and hey, I'm, $30 total for that for both of those. Yeah, yeah. Well worth it for a lifetime of memories. Speaking of lifetime of memories, go to the next one, Thomas. When we were floating, you and I, we saw, green turtle. Green sea turtle in the ocean. It was what? He was one of the crazy things. It went right under my float. I was like, oh, my God, there's a turtle. It was huge. It was so cool. And I was trying to find it again, but it just sort of disappeared. But I'm so glad we didn't find it, because what I didn't realize this is a sign that's like, look, keep your distance. This isn't even, like, social distancing. This is amphibian distancing. Yeah. From these total, these turtles, they're because you know, they're endangered. They're, you know, you don't want to hurt them. Don't don't touch them. Don't, you know, stay ten feet away from them. They're saying like, yeah, you know, do all that stuff. Ed because some people will break that rule and people are not happy about it. So, they're great to look at. I will say this. I think turtles, they are the strippers of the Pacific Ocean. **Thomas** (00:52:23:15 - 00:52:25:08): To please let me know. **Chip** (00:52:25:09 - 00:52:47:15): You can look at them, but don't touch. Yeah, please don't feed them. Yeah. You can't but every do. Yeah, please don't do that. And, by the way, that that photo, like the sign there, it looks like the guy is trying to feed him a fistful of. Hey, hey. Yeah, you know what? For a for a turtle. I don't know if you want a fistful of hay anyway, but, don't do it either way. Whatever it is. Hey, Skittles. I don't care what it is. Don't feed those turtles. Don't go near them. Admire them from a distance. And I think that's. **Thomas** (00:52:55:18 - 00:53:24:15): Yeah, you know, they're the absolute best. And, Yeah, I really, I've never seen anybody be disrespectful to a turtle, but I would. I don't know if it's irrational or what, but I would be furious. So. Yeah. Yeah. Be nice to them turtles. Keep that ten feet away. But, like, just, a really fun part of being in that part of the ocean is they, they pop out for every once in a while, say hello, and then they pop back down and go about their business. It's. And they're gone. It's like, almost magical. I love it. **Chip** (00:53:28:11 - 00:53:32:03): Speaking of science, Thomas, you can go to the next one. **Thomas** (00:53:32:03 - 00:53:33:09): Ace of base. **Chip** (00:53:33:11 - 00:53:39:23): I saw the sign. This was an ad that I was served a number of times when I was in Waikiki. **Thomas** (00:53:39:23 - 00:53:43:06): I've never seen this one. Dude, this is where we diverge here. **Chip** (00:53:43:08 - 00:54:04:22): Okay? It is an aerial view of the Pearl Harbor Memorial, which is on a while where we were, but it's advertising Pearl Harbor tours, which is a wonderful thing. It's it's, you know, to commemorate the lives lost in the the historical significance. I mean, just the world is a different place because of that event. And. Yeah. But the way that this ad kept getting served to me, it's just an American flag. And then it just says hassle free Pearl Harbor tours, hassle free. Go, go see, go go see this amazing, you know, thing that, you know, you see this, go see this amazing monument that they've erected and the and honor the lives of the over 2000 people who lost their lives. But you know what? Avoid the hassle. **Thomas** (00:54:38:23 - 00:54:40:08): You gotta avoid the hassle. **Chip** (00:54:40:10 - 00:54:59:05): Avoid that. That's the one thing you want to do when you're going to pay your respects to, a memorial like this. Just get in it. You want to red tape? You know what I mean? Yeah. No, that's like that's like going to see, like, hey, go see Antietam, the bloodiest battle in the history of America from the Civil War. But you know what? You don't need any headaches. You don't need any ballyhoo. Just, you know, you don't need hassle with that. You know, I think here's what I would do, Thomas, if I was, if I, if if I were, advertising like a tour to Pearl Harbor, I would be like, this is going to be a hassle, and you're going to go through it because I think as a patriot, I think you should. I think there should be a little bit of a hassle, a little bit of a struggle to go see this thing. **Thomas** (00:55:26:15 - 00:55:45:04): Yeah. I will let these Americans take their medicine, learn where freedom comes from. Yeah. I think part of that, I also think for this ad, what I see right here is, somebody who understands the demographic who's probably, like, most excited about Pearl Harbor. Yes. You know, it's like, yeah, there you got to be a little older. You're going to be on your vacation. You're going to be at a point of like, I've heard of Pearl Harbor. I'd like to see that. But I'm at a point in my life where I'm rich enough that I can travel to Hawaii and I'm just not going to be hassled by anything. No, you know what I mean. **Chip** (00:56:00:20 - 00:56:01:16): Not too tall. **Thomas** (00:56:01:16 - 00:56:26:17): Also, I think the other issue might be is there's there's an even easier way, there's an even less hassle way to get a Pearl Harbor tour. And that is to watch Mike Brady give one on the three episode arc where The Brady Bunch went to Hawaii. Season four, episodes one through three, and you can actually see that on episode four. Hear us talk about it on episode 42 of the Sunburnt podcast, where we compiled every time we talked about the Bradys in Hawaii, and to one two hour plus. **Chip** (00:56:37:21 - 00:56:39:05): Extravaganza. **Thomas** (00:56:39:05 - 00:56:54:14): Extravaganza where we just get into the nitty gritty. You're like, did you do any research? Did you add anything to it from the production? No. We watched it and gave our hot takes on the scene by scene. **Chip** (00:56:54:15 - 00:56:55:13): Play by play. **Thomas** (00:56:55:14 - 00:57:19:22): Including when the Bradys are getting a full tour of the island from, a local. And he is like, fill in the minute. And Mike doesn't know about Hawaii. He didn't know anything. And then all of a sudden they got on that ship and Mike's the only one speaking. He's telling them the ins and outs, the intricacies. Because this is Mike's time to shine, baby. **Chip** (00:57:20:04 - 00:57:25:04): To Western Civ, man, he just. Western Civ became the professor. **Thomas** (00:57:25:09 - 00:57:31:01): He knows all about it. Dude, this, I I've never seen this angle of it, though. That's interesting. I didn't it is. **Chip** (00:57:31:01 - 00:57:32:13): Kind of wild. I know. **Thomas** (00:57:32:13 - 00:57:52:03): Like, I've seen the above part. I've never been there, but I've seen the above part. And I was just, like, always, like, that's an interesting shape. I wonder why it's shaped like that. This doesn't make any sense to me. But now that I see it from the above, that this is just right over the ship and kind of is giving you, a view into the underneath there as well. I mean, hats off to every design that that's very interesting. **Chip** (00:57:56:06 - 00:57:59:08): You know, speaking of monuments, let's go to the next one. **Thomas** (00:57:59:08 - 00:58:01:16): Thomas, body, this food. **Chip** (00:58:01:16 - 00:58:02:10): Land, baby. **Thomas** (00:58:02:13 - 00:58:03:13): This head food. **Chip** (00:58:03:13 - 00:58:24:16): Land. One of the high points of the trip. This is on the North Shore. On Friday, we took some cars. You had an SUV for your for your fam? Kim and I rented a convertible. Mini Cooper. Come on. Look at me right here. I drove the island, went up to the north shore, went to the botanical gardens, which was amazing, by the way. I took amazing photos. And I know you did. Two of the botanical gardens we went to were incredible. I don't think I included a single photo from the Botanical gardens here, but I did include a picture of the grocery store. Foodland? Yeah, because I love this photo. I always I, I'm the guy my dad worked in grocery stores. I grew up on groceries. Every time I'm on vacation, I don't care where I'm at. I'm going to the local grocery store just to check it out. Because if you go to a grocery store in a foreign like in a in just even, it's a different city or a different town, it's the same but different. There's always just a you're just in reality, but it's just a little five degrees off. And the reason and you were the one who took us to Food land up here. This was our lunch the day we were up on the North Shore. Why were we at a grocery store? Because you would go to the deli counter, basically, which was really the fish counter. And they have, Well, tell them, obviously, I know, you know, a little, but. **Thomas** (00:59:18:20 - 00:59:38:11): It's I mean, I'm not a pokey guy. I don't eat fish. Really, but, it's supposed to be the best pokey. My wife loves it. And you got to try it. It's, I mean, by all accounts, very fresh. Amazing recipe. You can go on videos where they ask, like locals, what's the best food? And, you'll hear, you know, quite a few people say Foodland, pokey. And there's a kind of, a special way to order. I understand there's some of it. There's spicy. There's some of it's less spicy. And, like, you know, maybe a mix is what some people hit on. But, like, I wanted to take you there because I knew, you and Kim were, needed that experience. And you know what? If you don't eat fish, they also got a delicious orange chicken option to. **Chip** (01:00:00:07 - 01:00:00:15): Throw on with. **Thomas** (01:00:00:15 - 01:00:19:09): That. And, it's it's very reasonably priced, and it's just, you know, it's right there on the North Shore of Hawaii, like the all the food lands have. Pokey. This is kind of the one that was, I shared with me is like the go to place, but it's mostly just because you know, when you're doing a trip around the island, that's about when lunch time hits, you know, dude. **Chip** (01:00:19:09 - 01:00:37:08): And it was pretty reasonable, especially for why it was. It's just a bowl of fish chunk, raw fish and rice. I mean, it's basically a sushi and a bowl for those you don't know. And it's it was delicious. Like Kim got a little bit more like the spicier stuff. I did have spice, but it was like, I like the basics of just the fish, and the fish was so fresh. It was amazing. It was it was so delicious. It was the best poké I've ever had. And it's just from this grocery store. And by the way, it's not like, I mean, people were lined up for this poké, like they know to go. We had to take it. Take a number. You wait to get it. It was great. And then just the experience of eating it go to the next slide. Thomas. Because we had to eat with these guys. **Thomas** (01:00:57:20 - 01:00:59:04): Yeah. **Chip** (01:00:59:06 - 01:01:19:02): All right. So there's a rooster. He is just, all gussied up, with one of his I call it hens. And we were just basically in the side of the parking lot at Foodland with this little strip of grass where were there with me and you and Kim and your dad and, your wife and, the baby were in the in the car. But, we're eating this pokey with these relatively aggressive birds kind of coming at us. I was really worried that at one point, they were going to take your dad with them. **Thomas** (01:01:30:18 - 01:01:53:00): My dad did sit down right on the, the curb, which nobody else chose to do. And, by the end of his meal was surrounded by no less than 20 birds and just kind of like, you could feel them starting to close in, and so could hear the concern was growing on both ends. And, it was it was pretty funny to watch, but yeah, the those chickens and roosters are everywhere, man. And like, I don't know what kind they are, but, what a beautiful bird. Look at that guy. **Chip** (01:01:58:04 - 01:02:34:03): Right. What a beautiful bird. I will say, down when I was in, Key West, two years ago, the. They have roosters and chickens and they also have a guan is everywhere. And I would say this there's something special about. It's not a vacation, Thomas. It is not a vacation. Unless you are surrounded by shifty, aggressive little creatures that are running around keeping you on your toes because you can never be 100% comfortable, because you'd just be in a restaurant and just a rooster will run past, you know, like if you're like sort of indoor outdoor and, they're a little shifty, they can get territorial. And I think it keeps you honest as a tourist. You know, I always want to be respectful of the locals in the local situation. I think the reason those roosters are there is just to keep people honest. And I respect that. And I fear that. **Thomas** (01:02:46:10 - 01:03:08:15): I respect it and I fear it. And, dude, it also explains a lot this, you were talking about Sunday, the grocery store pictures and. Yeah, philosophy because I'm just going through and like, when you send me pictures, it's usually it's something that has some humor to it. It's funny though, I would say that's 80% of them. I would say, another 18% of them are something amazing. Like you're seeing something cool or something noteworthy, something beautiful, something you want to share. And then there is, two more percent, which never quite made sense to me until your, your description, but are just supermarkets. And that case in point, when you landed in Los Angeles, you sent me a picture of like some Greek restaurant you were going to to say, I'm going to this cool Greek restaurant. And then just, a picture of a Ralphs. And I was just like, oh, he's okay. I yeah, he's he's by a root. Okay, cool. Like a for a grocery store here. And. **Chip** (01:03:51:05 - 01:03:55:10): That Vons are my favorite. Hey, a gelson's if I'm feeling fancy. **Thomas** (01:03:55:10 - 01:04:03:14): Yeah, yeah. I don't know if you're going a little higher and we got some Gaussians, but it is like. Yeah, yeah, you share, you share supermarket photos, man. **Chip** (01:04:03:16 - 01:04:22:00): It's the best I. I'll tell you this. Kim and I took a road trip down south on her honeymoon, hit a bunch of really cool towns and one of the high points of my honeymoon where I just married my wife was. We were in this rural area of, I want to say, Georgia, and we came across just in the middle of nowhere, a Piggly Wiggly. And I was like, oh my God, I'm at a Piggly Wiggly. We stopped. We took pictures, we went in, we walked around the Piggly Wiggly. It was amazing. Anyway, moving on from grocery store. **Thomas** (01:04:31:16 - 01:04:32:05): So moving on. **Chip** (01:04:32:06 - 01:04:35:04): Let's let's keep moving. **Thomas** (01:04:35:06 - 01:04:35:19): Here's the show. **Chip** (01:04:35:19 - 01:04:58:21): Yeah, here is the shot. This is perfection. This is my favorite. My Tai, the Moana, beach, beach bar Mai Tai at night under. You can if you're looking at it, you can see the banyan tree that's all lit up. Yeah, beautiful. It's just chill. It's one of my favorite things in the world. I just. I can taste it right now. I can feel those ingredients. The Mai tai, my favorite drink had a number of them throughout the week. And that's the best. Now, here's the thing, Thomas. **Thomas** (01:05:06:22 - 01:05:08:12): Yeah? **Chip** (01:05:08:14 - 01:05:09:17): If I can get a little serious. **Thomas** (01:05:09:18 - 01:05:11:04): Yeah, let's get serious. **Chip** (01:05:11:06 - 01:05:14:03): This vacation, as you said, wasn't all roses. **Thomas** (01:05:14:04 - 01:05:16:06): Yeah. **Chip** (01:05:16:08 - 01:05:31:16): And I want you to calm down, Thomas, because this is something that is a little serious. And I need to talk about. Not everything about you. We had a great time. Not everything was perfect on this trip. And I hate to bring the mood down. I hope people are enjoying this. And you're looking at this beautiful picture. There were some, you know, there's some downsides and some things that maybe they don't want you to see or they don't want out there, that are a little more tragic. And, if you could advance to the next photo. **Thomas** (01:05:46:20 - 01:05:52:18): Yep. That's, that is probably the low point of the trip right there. **Chip** (01:05:52:20 - 01:06:14:12): That's the worst thing that ever happened. It's for those of you just listening, you're like, what is going on right now. That is a picture of another drink that Thomas and I got, the one night at the at the bar there, the blue Hawaiian. I'm sure you've heard of the blue wine. The reason I got it is because my favorite band, pavement, has a song called Blue Hawaiian, and I was like, I've had a blue Hawaiian before. It's fun. It's like, we're in Hawaii. We've had the my tais. Let's just branch out. Let's get something else. They had the blue. Blue. I know they were like, let's get it. I have the ingredients right here. The blue or a blue Hawaiian is rum, blue Curacao, pineapple juice. And cream of coconut, I believe. And that's your traditional blue Hawaiian. That's delicious. From blue cast. Now, the pineapple juice, a little cream, just, like, set it off. **Thomas** (01:06:40:23 - 01:06:41:06): Yeah. **Chip** (01:06:41:07 - 01:06:46:14): Delicious. The ingredients for this one. I actually looked it up, Thomas. **Thomas** (01:06:46:15 - 01:06:50:16): It was vodka and Windex. **Chip** (01:06:50:18 - 01:06:56:02): Vodka and Windex. That's. I think you nailed it. Explain what went wrong with it. **Thomas** (01:06:56:04 - 01:07:06:05): Well, Kemp, Kim was the one that kind of did the research. I just drank it and was like, this is. This is all like, I've never had a tiki drink that I was just like, this is disgusting. **Chip** (01:07:06:07 - 01:07:07:11): Right? **Thomas** (01:07:07:13 - 01:07:21:14): I've had one. So I'm like, this is too strong or this is too sweet or whatever, but never disgusting. This was just gross. And I'm willing to bet it is just vodka and blue care. So and they left out some of the fruit juices. **Chip** (01:07:21:16 - 01:07:25:10): That they left out there. The pineapple juice and the cream just set it off a little. **Thomas** (01:07:25:10 - 01:07:45:23): Yeah, there was definitely no cream. I didn't taste any pineapple juice. There was a pineapple wedge, but that wasn't really helping it. It was just blue carousel and vodka. And like, I you you struggled through it and finished it. Yeah, I took about four sips and couldn't do it anymore and just ordered a my tie. **Chip** (01:07:46:01 - 01:07:46:21): It was rough. **Thomas** (01:07:46:23 - 01:07:56:14): It was ruined. Left. It left just that that blue Hawaiian on the table and the I was like, maybe the server will take it off like I there's no way it was made correctly. **Chip** (01:07:56:20 - 01:08:00:16): No, there was just there were some ingredients that were forgotten. And it happens. It happens. **Thomas** (01:08:00:17 - 01:08:22:19): It does happen. It was definitely blue. We got we got what we ordered. Yep. Color wise, but yeah that was a low point. And I'll bring up one more thing. Like I talked about this being my favorite place in the world. There was one memory, dude. It was all of us. You, me, Kim, my wife, my baby, my dad. The live music was just flowing, and my little, one and a half year old was just dancing up a storm and. **Chip** (01:08:30:13 - 01:08:31:07): Amazing. **Thomas** (01:08:31:07 - 01:08:47:08): Did not want to sit at a table, and we all kind of just joined her. We were sitting on the steps there, right by the stage. The performer noticed my daughter and like, really liked it, but then she just really wanted to sit next to Kim. And then she really wanted grandpa to come over and dance with her. And it was just like, I don't know, like I just can't really imagine being happier at this stage in my life than like that. That whole scenario of like, the baby's good. I'm there with my friends and they're with my family at this perfect place. Everybody's having a good time. Like, I, we we don't put the baby on social media or, you know, or else I would share it. But we've got this great video. It's just like, 360 of everybody's faces and the music and the dancing and, my little baby running over and grabbing grandpa's hand won the dance with them. Really an amazing time, man. It was a freaking awesome. And I'll never forget it. Mostly because I have the video. And when my memory starts to escape me as I slowly slip into dementia, someday I'll be able to look at that video and be like, pretty, pretty good. Did pretty sure it is. **Chip** (01:09:40:12 - 01:09:41:18): There it is. **Thomas** (01:09:41:20 - 01:09:44:20): How is that? Was that funny? Beautiful. How's this go? **Chip** (01:09:44:20 - 01:09:49:10): But it doesn't have to be all funny. It's touching and it's amazing. **Thomas** (01:09:49:12 - 01:09:58:04): It was it's just that with that light, all this stuff going on, everybody else is drinking dark blue Hawaiians, and we're having a moment. **Chip** (01:09:58:04 - 01:10:02:06): Just vomiting left and right. Yeah. Just. **Thomas** (01:10:02:08 - 01:10:08:05): Maybe that's how that guy ended up, face down in the old, commode. He had a huge. **Chip** (01:10:08:05 - 01:10:26:01): Wine that you absolutely. Yeah. That was that was amazing. Let's actually talk about that real quickly. The last night we were there. So you guys had already moved on? Yeah. Kim and I, were there for our last night. We decided to go over, have just the the beautiful, the the hamburger, some mai tais. Yeah. It's the most calm I've ever been. We're going home the next day, but it's like, this is great. And I. Excuse myself, to again, we're under the banyan tree. I it's not our hotel, so they. But they do have a restroom. And which I've now learned. You said that there is a much closer restroom, but it was the one that I knew of. Walked through the Moana. Moana. It was beautiful. I get into the restroom and as I'm walking into the restroom and it's just like, I'm just it's the end of the night. I'm so chill. I'm walking to this, right? This guy comes running out of the restroom like bangs into me. It just keeps going. And I was like, that's not cool. The most aggressive thing I've seen the entire time. Yeah, this whole. **Thomas** (01:11:00:22 - 01:11:01:09): Place has. **Chip** (01:11:01:09 - 01:11:22:23): Been so laid back. And I was like, that's weird, but I walk in, there is a gentleman, there's two urinals and two stalls, and there's one gentleman at the urinal, and I just about to go to the other urinal, and I see him looking over the stalls, and I look over, I see something under the two stalls, like sharing, like in both of the stalls that are both closed. There is a man up, I would say probably in his 30s, 2030s, well dressed. Yeah. He is laying on his back, head in one stall, feet in the other. **Thomas** (01:11:35:06 - 01:11:41:11): I've never seen this. I've never seen anything like this. This is beyond blowing my mind out cold. **Chip** (01:11:41:11 - 01:11:48:15): Just like a corpse just on his back, eyes closed out in both of the stalls. **Thomas** (01:11:48:16 - 01:11:49:15): My God. **Chip** (01:11:49:17 - 01:12:05:15): And so I'm just, like, taking the scene in for a second. And then the guy at the urinal who's still doing what he's doing just looks at me. He's like, I don't know, man. And I was like, well, I have a choice. I really got to go. I can just use the urinal. Yeah, or I can. I was like, I think I need this guy needs help. **Thomas** (01:12:05:20 - 01:12:08:10): Yeah. So p by a crime scene. **Chip** (01:12:08:16 - 01:12:20:18): No. And again, I have not taken too many improv classes, so I can't be of medical assistance. So I run out and I bang into a guy who's coming in and I'm like, oh, this makes sense now. **Thomas** (01:12:20:18 - 01:12:21:10): Yeah. **Chip** (01:12:21:12 - 01:12:25:15): I run through the beautiful lobby decked out in Christmas decorations. All right. It's a. **Thomas** (01:12:25:15 - 01:12:27:03): Really long hallway that it's like. **Chip** (01:12:27:03 - 01:12:43:15): It is a hallways, like in a horror movie where the the faster you run, the longer the hallway gets. Yeah, and I, I and then as I'm approaching the front desk for somebody call 911, I see that guy who bumped into me. I was like, hey, did you just tell them? He's like, yeah, they're calling 911. So I was like, all right. So and again, I never got closure on what happened. I'm assuming you just had one too many or seven too many. Unless there was some sort of weird fight that happened in there where he is just out cold on the bathroom floor. So, strange scene, but I want to move on to the next photo. Okay. Next photo, Thomas. Because I said to him, this is just one of the more regular things. This is on the street right outside of the hotel. This obviously what you'll just see in Waikiki. This is obviously just spider man with a fanny pack on scrolling through Instagram. **Thomas** (01:13:16:14 - 01:13:17:05): Yeah. **Chip** (01:13:17:07 - 01:13:25:04): I don't think we have to say much more. It's just a picture of it's spider man. He is wearing a fanny pack. He is scrolling through Instagram. **Thomas** (01:13:25:06 - 01:13:32:02): Yeah. And this is one of the most aggressive, invasive species, on the whole island. The spider man. **Chip** (01:13:32:03 - 01:13:35:16): There's the roosters. And then there's the Spiderman. **Thomas** (01:13:35:18 - 01:13:39:13): Yep. The man geese were brought in largely to take care of the spider. **Chip** (01:13:39:13 - 01:13:47:08): Man, right. And to feel bad for him. But he is just a man in a in a total spider man suit wearing a fanny pack. Check in Instagram. **Thomas** (01:13:47:09 - 01:13:51:23): He's got some athletic kicks on spider man does do some real athletic things. **Chip** (01:13:51:23 - 01:14:00:13): He's got a move. He's not just slinging webs. He's. He's jumping around absolute. With great power comes great responsibility, Thomas. And part of that responsibility is to protect those feet. **Thomas** (01:14:00:13 - 01:14:19:00): I would make less fun of this guy if he didn't pass me during the five K. I think that's maybe where a lot of my animosity comes from. Just banging a cig and a man costume, just flying by in A5K. That's. Yeah. That hurts. That is the soul. Oh come on baby, this is all right. So Murray's milk. **Chip** (01:14:19:02 - 01:14:33:07): We are in the home stretch right now Thomas. This is okay. This is the shot. This is the shot. This is the photo of diamond. Hey, this is very similar to the shot from the Thursday early morning thing. This is during the day. Here's what I love about this. **Thomas** (01:14:33:09 - 01:14:33:17): Yeah. **Chip** (01:14:33:17 - 01:14:54:04): This is, This is Diamond Head. It is. This is the shot that you see when I was a child. And my father would watch a game show like Tic-Tac-Toe and Wink Martindale would come on and be like. And if you get the grand prize, you're going to win a trip to Hawaii. This is the photo. This is what I've seen my entire life. The palm trees diamond head off in the distance, and it's like, this is where we were the entire time. This is Hawaii to me. And, just such a classic shot. And the reason I put this in here is because I wanted people to see that is Diamond Head. It's the crater that the mountain, whatever we would call it. And it's off the side. It's the one that sits there. Kim and I, on your recommendation, we went. And because we're hikers, we walked up there. It's only maybe like two miles to get there. We walked there, and then we took the the hike where we hiked to the top of that mountain, to the top of Diamond Head. Yeah. And it was a blast. If you want to go to the next photo, it was beautiful. We had a great time. It was a beautiful morning. There's Kim. We're walking down now, overlooking the Pacific. The other mountains. It was it was incredible. **Thomas** (01:15:42:22 - 01:15:58:01): I know where you are. Here. This is where, like, this is what separates the hikers from the non hikers. There is an option to take a less steep way up to the top. You can just keep going. And you guys took the stairs to hell? **Chip** (01:15:58:04 - 01:16:01:09): Yes, we did, because there were some people who were not prepared to take. **Thomas** (01:16:01:09 - 01:16:02:02): Oh, yeah. **Chip** (01:16:02:02 - 01:16:18:01): Those stairs to hell. I will say that. Yeah. And that was the one. I don't say downfall. It's the one thing we weren't expecting were hikers. We like to hike. You're out there in nature. It's nice and quiet. You're being one with nature. You're just kind of disappearing. We were in. We were having so much fun at Waikiki. But you're basically in a city and, in a busy beach town, you know, and we're like, we're can get away. And then we realized that that's what everybody else does is they get away. Yeah. So it is there's lots of other tours, and I feel like such a snob because it's like, oh, these tourists are just annoying me. I'm a tourist too. **Thomas** (01:16:33:07 - 01:16:34:02): **Chip** (01:16:34:13 - 01:16:46:09): But you know, they're just, they're, they're doing their thing. There's a lot of tourist. But it was fun. But then there was this guy go to the next photo I, this guy might be a local. He seemed like, you know, okay. **Thomas** (01:16:46:11 - 01:16:49:00): This guy can I, can I tell you what this guy looks like to me? **Chip** (01:16:49:00 - 01:16:50:10): Yes, yes. **Thomas** (01:16:50:12 - 01:16:54:15): Frog the bounty hunter. **Chip** (01:16:54:17 - 01:16:57:19): That's. Yes, he he's wearing a baseball. **Thomas** (01:16:57:19 - 01:17:00:07): He's he's not dog. This is frog. **Chip** (01:17:00:07 - 01:17:15:23): This is frog the bounty hunter. The amphibious bounty hunter. This is. He is. And his bounty was on my happiness. I will say that. And he he he he he he had the warrant, and he got it. He's wearing a baseball cap. I put him in his late 60s. **Thomas** (01:17:16:01 - 01:17:16:17): Yeah. **Chip** (01:17:16:19 - 01:17:21:06): Baseball hat, sunglasses. He's wearing a long sleeve shirt that's open. **Thomas** (01:17:21:11 - 01:17:21:17): Yeah. **Chip** (01:17:21:18 - 01:17:36:07): Bare chested with a giant with a giant cross. Just, just a giant crucifix around his neck. And I had I also sent you some short videos. I couldn't put it on the slideshow here. Yeah, but maybe we'll put that on. **Thomas** (01:17:36:07 - 01:17:39:23): Yeah. Line somewhere. Just just talk. Just talk through. We'll put them on. **Chip** (01:17:40:00 - 01:17:44:22): Okay. So here's what's happening. Here's what annoy me about this guy. **Thomas** (01:17:44:23 - 01:17:47:21): Oh, actually, you know what? We're not going to be able to use the sound. **Chip** (01:17:47:23 - 01:18:11:07): Oh, that's right, because of the because what the sound is. That's true. Yeah. So I'll describe it for you. Yeah. We just want to be kind of quietly, you know, hiking this beautiful monument. This and, he we, we, we can hear him before we see him because he has loudly, loudly blasting music on his phone for all of us to hear. Two days after Thanksgiving, just loudly blasting Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas Is You. **Thomas** (01:18:19:20 - 01:18:26:11): And it is like a chip sent me this this video. It is shocking how loud it is. **Chip** (01:18:26:13 - 01:18:29:14): It's so loud and blasting it. **Thomas** (01:18:29:14 - 01:18:38:04): And if you know anything about the way the Diamondhead hike is set up is like, you can't really avoid people because it zigzags back and forth all the way up. **Chip** (01:18:38:06 - 01:18:54:02): There's these cutbacks. So the switchbacks where you would just we so finally we just let him go ahead of us. And it's not like you can like, oh, let's take this trail instead. It's all the same path. So we're like, all right, he's annoying. He's behind us. We're trying to take in the majesty. And then we just. And he played two songs. He played Mariah Carey's All I want for You and Wham! Last Christmas. Just those two songs on repeat the entire time. Just it. It's not the time or the place to hear these things, okay? I'm not watching love actually, I don't need this. **Thomas** (01:19:10:07 - 01:19:17:17): While everything else this guy has going on is sick. Yeah. Popping some headphones, baby. **Chip** (01:19:17:19 - 01:19:20:09): That's all you need. And it was just I will. **Thomas** (01:19:20:09 - 01:19:40:23): Excuse that behavior on one other instance. And it's if you're at a dope beach cruise or moving quickly away from the people around you, it's like if you're just cruising through blasting some nice tunes, I get that. But if you're walking at the same speed as everybody else during a, let's be honest, this is not an average tourist activity. This is no the one that is more rustic. It's meant to be an exploration of nature. **Chip** (01:19:47:15 - 01:19:48:19): Outward Bound. **Thomas** (01:19:48:21 - 01:20:09:19): Need for volume. And I mean, shout out, is that an iPhone? Is that maybe a Samsung Galaxy? Maybe a pixel? I don't know, but whoever designed that, I mean, it can bump. You can do a whole rave off of one phone if you need to. That was loud. Ace music from Frog the bounty Hunter. **Chip** (01:20:09:19 - 01:20:23:16): From the Bounty Hunter. And like the funniest part was with the switchbacks. So funny. He was behind us. More like we were just so angry. We're like, let's just take a break, let him get in front of us and just keep going. So we just waited for a few minutes. He came past us. I had an interaction with him. I actually I videotaped him and then coming back, I saw him, I videotaped and I said, Merry Christmas to him. And he said, Merry Christmas. He was very passive aggressive. And then so he went ahead of me and, but then we thought we were done with him. But then with the switchbacks, he's just up in front of us, so, like, you wouldn't hear it. And then for three minutes you would hear him, you know, on the switchback, just like Harry's. And then you wouldn't hear him. Then you come back. William's last Christmas, then you wouldn't hear him. Right? Carry then back William's last Christmas, just over and over again, echoing in the canyon. In the crater. So it's just it it it was it was amazing. This guy looks like frog down here to me. I thought he he looked like he stormed the Capitol in a musical about January 6th. That's what this guy looked like. He. It was like, stop the steal the musical. This guy had a lead role. That's what this guy looked like. And just, again, he stormed my heart, by just playing this two songs when we're just trying to enjoy ourselves. But it didn't dampen the entire experience. Was still a diamond head was amazing to hike. Go to the next photo. **Thomas** (01:21:27:21 - 01:21:41:08): I will say this as we wrap up or wrap up. Frog the bounty hunter here. Yeah. Been giving him some guff, because that's a weird thing to do. Yes, but I'm telling you, by the fifth, my tie. I promise you, this guy's a great top. **Chip** (01:21:41:10 - 01:21:47:13): Oh, the best promise you. Yeah, yeah, this this guy is going to Pearl Harbor without any hassle. **Thomas** (01:21:47:17 - 01:21:56:19): Oh, man, this guy does not need the hassles, all right? Not. Oh, baby, I told you there was a nice lighthouse on Waikiki that I match up. **Chip** (01:21:56:21 - 01:22:19:23): Okay, I am such a lighthouse fan. This is. You're looking down from the top of Diamond Head. Looking down. This is a lighthouse. It was built in 1899. The Coast Guard now runs it. And, it is a lighthouse. It's on Diamond Head there. Here's a little trivia question for you and the listeners. Do you know what the name of this lighthouse is called? Thomas. **Thomas** (01:22:24:09 - 01:22:26:00): Honolulu lighthouse. **Chip** (01:22:26:02 - 01:22:44:08): It's called the Diamond Head Lighthouse. It's very generic. Look great. It's such a cool old, lighthouse. I was this summer. Kim and I were in Portland, Maine. I was doing some shows, and we saw, the Portland Head Lighthouse and a couple other lighthouses in South Portland. So it's like we literally saw the American lighthouses. That's the furthest apart. The furthest apart. And, they're amazing. I have this dream that I want to live in a lighthouse someday, where you just. You're just away from everybody else overlooking the ocean. Nobody's bothering you, and, you just. You just live that life. But go to the next photo to us, and we're we're basically done here. I think I got two more. This is Kim and I on our balcony on our eighth floor balcony at the outrigger, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Come right around sunset. We are having our mai tais. We're having our canned mai tais from the ABC store, our cutwater mai tai hot water. **Thomas** (01:23:19:15 - 01:23:23:01): Mai tai. Shout out Cutwater! We love your mai tais! **Chip** (01:23:23:01 - 01:23:36:21): Cutwater. If you're looking for anybody to sponsor, take a look no further. Kim and I had a bunch of canned mai tais on our balcony overlooking the ocean. The outrigger. It's. It's our little personal lighthouse. That's what I'm going to call it. Thomas. Oh. **Thomas** (01:23:36:23 - 01:23:37:21): That's true. **Chip** (01:23:37:21 - 01:23:50:09): Personal lighthouse. We we just had had the boat, and you told us you're like, oh, yeah, you're going to get ocean views or whatever. And it was like, yeah, we're going to get a sliver of the ocean. That's how they sell it. We just had the most amazing view of the Pacific. Yeah. **Thomas** (01:23:50:14 - 01:23:52:20): You got the you got the star room dubbed. **Chip** (01:23:52:22 - 01:23:58:12): The Star Room. And then finally, Thomas, our last photo. Go ahead. **Thomas** (01:23:58:13 - 01:23:59:15): Oh, yeah. **Chip** (01:23:59:15 - 01:24:05:16): Maybe there's Tommy and I in that little town. It starts with an H. I sure do you remember what it's called? **Thomas** (01:24:05:18 - 01:24:09:07): No, I mean, I, I think I do, but, like, I wouldn't pronounce it right. I pronounce it. **Chip** (01:24:09:07 - 01:24:12:07): Correctly. You don't go that. We don't want to butcher the name, but. **Thomas** (01:24:12:11 - 01:24:16:14): It's about us. Shave ice, baby. Dude, this is the big one. **Chip** (01:24:16:16 - 01:24:39:06): On the North Shore. Yeah, there was it was this, like, 10:00 in the morning with shave ice? People in Philadelphia. No. Water ice people? No. Sure. Where there's no snow cones. This is a sphere of a sphere the size of larger than a softball, like, more than a grapefruit. And that was the small Thomas. **Thomas** (01:24:39:06 - 01:24:40:03): Yeah, baby. **Chip** (01:24:40:05 - 01:24:50:05): This sphere of beautiful shaped, flavored ice. And then for a little bit extra, they put some condensed cream on it. Highly recommended. **Thomas** (01:24:50:06 - 01:24:56:19): Dude, it's it's a it's a real sweet treat. It's a sweet blast, baby. Sweet black. Get your sugar in. That's for sure. **Chip** (01:24:56:21 - 01:25:01:06): And it was it was amazing. And that's Tommy and I together sharing our shave ices. **Thomas** (01:25:01:12 - 01:25:24:07): We love the chip. You got me the sweetest poster to commemorate this. There's an artist there in Honolulu that makes kind of like, these vintage posters, and, I just got it in the mail yesterday. Chip. Chip and his wife, got me and my family this beautiful poster, commemorating this town and their history of, amazing shave ice. It's, It's beautiful. Chip, thank you very much. **Chip** (01:25:27:00 - 01:25:41:09): Thank you for introducing me to the shave ice. And that was a way to kick off our our tour of the North Shore, that day. So that's my little. Those are just some of my highlights from our trip, which was one of the most incredible experiences of my young life. Thomas. **Thomas** (01:25:41:11 - 01:25:49:00): Dude, I love it. Well, we've been going on for a minute. I think. I think, in the coming weeks, we're still going to have a couple of things to say. **Chip** (01:25:49:01 - 01:25:49:18): Yes. **Thomas** (01:25:49:20 - 01:26:07:02): About this trip. There's so many stories we haven't even, touched the surface on a couple of things. Yeah, but we'll, you know, from here on out, it'll be smaller doses. We'll keep it punchy. We'll keep it fun. But, dude. Yeah. This is the wrap on the first one. Thanks so much for being on this journey with us, everybody. We, Yeah. **Chip** (01:26:07:19 - 01:26:08:15): Thank you guys. **Thomas** (01:26:08:17 - 01:26:46:05): When you start anything, you don't know if it's going to work. But here we are.
