But, my first time here, by the way, a couple of years. This is not only the first time I've ever been in a while. This is the first time we've done not to. I mean, I think people figured it out to. I mean, I've heard about it my entire, obviously, my whole life, and I am really feeling it now. If I'm really going to feel it tomorrow. The stand up, I take it very seriously. Funny how much you care about comedy. **Chip:** (00:03:45:11 - 00:04:00:23): It really is. It is. It is more of a drama. What I do. So after I put the briefcase down tomorrow at about 10:30 p.m., that's when I'm officially on vacation. But even even even still, it has been so much fun. My wife is definitely in vacation mode right now. **Thomas:** (00:04:00:23 - 00:04:01:22): Oh, yeah, she has. **Chip:** (00:04:01:22 - 00:04:08:23): Her first time on vacation. She's taking a little nippy nap right now. But I have to tell you. So let's jump right into it. The ocean. **Thomas:** (00:04:08:23 - 00:04:09:15): Yeah. **Chip:** (00:04:09:17 - 00:04:17:00): We we suck our toes in yesterday when we got here. Yeah. But of course we we were exhausted. We were in Los Angeles for a few days. A lot. **Thomas:** (00:04:17:00 - 00:04:19:02): Of travel between Philadelphia and. **Chip:** (00:04:19:07 - 00:04:33:12): Angeles and then Honolulu. So we were exhausted. But we had a great day and we were still tired. And then you were like, you got to get a floatie. And I was like, I don't know what a floatie is. It is what it seems. It's basically it's a horseshoe. It's an inflatable horseshoe that you just sit on. **Thomas:** (00:04:33:12 - 00:04:38:21): I don't know what visual aid you could use right now. Yeah. But there might be one right behind you. **Chip:** (00:04:38:23 - 00:04:56:02): Oh, yeah. They're literally is a floatie right here. One of these bad boys right here that we got at the ABC store, which literally has everything. I got a bottle of pineapple juice, some sunblock, and a, life insurance policy just this morning. **Thomas:** (00:04:56:02 - 00:04:57:19): Shout out ABC store. **Chip:** (00:04:57:20 - 00:05:11:01): Yes. It's easy as one, two, three. So, you were like, you got to get the floaties, you got to go out and just float in the ocean. Yeah. And I was like, okay, I'll try it. And, shout out. My wife was like, I don't know, do we really need two of them? Maybe I can just hang on to one. Or you can, and we do this. Where are we going to spend this, Mike? Because we're just going to have it for the week. We were out there for four, so we did get it. And if you go to the ABC store and they charge you a book, but they blow it up for you, which is amazing, and we take it out. And I could tell she was a little skeptical. Yeah, four minutes in, she was like, this is the best investment. We made so far. She's already excited to take it back. We're we're taking it to Jersey shore next year. Hopefully when we come back to Waikiki, we're using it. She was just. That was her. Her baptism into. Yeah. To vacation, but I do I do like the fact that you're here in Waikiki. You're on the island in the Pacific to escape reality. Yes. Right. So you're escaping reality for a few days to just breathe some fresh air and to just. Just unwind and then to float. You're just like, no, no, no, no, no, Waikiki isn't good enough. We're going to give you this floatie. You're going to go out a couple hundred feet and you're going to float even further away from that reality. I just I'm waiting for tomorrow for the next level of just like, no, no, no, what you really have to do once you get to the sandbar. Yeah, there's going to be a guy selling burlap sack full of corks, and you're just going to drift off into until the horizon hits you. And, that's when you will really be at ease, just further and deeper and deeper away from reality. **Thomas:** (00:06:31:14 - 00:06:38:07): If you're lucky enough to get there. Some people get caught up in a revenge scheme by a Manatee's family. **Chip:** (00:06:38:12 - 00:06:39:11): It happens, **Thomas:** (00:06:39:13 - 00:06:43:16): And you get dragged way out beyond the cork guy. I just I was going with it, but that's going to be. I think Manatee revenge is the bet you were talking about. Like, almost like a clue like situation. Kind of like the Keystone Cops or, like, running out doors and indoors. Getting ready to take care of some business. **Chip:** (00:07:23:09 - 00:07:27:10): Yes, yes. I pity the fool. Swims in this ocean. **Thomas:** (00:07:27:12 - 00:07:31:00): I do the full. We've had some, shared some meals together and broke, broke bread. We flew on the plane together. Yes. Got to see each other in an airplane habitat. How are we doing? I've got the baby. 47 bags. Yeah. **Chip:** (00:07:59:03 - 00:08:14:04): We're traveling late. My wife and I just carry on. We each have a carry on and, and a backpack, and, so we travel light, and, it's it's going well. We did have our share of, I should I think it's first class. **Thomas:** (00:08:14:04 - 00:08:14:11): Yeah. **Chip:** (00:08:14:17 - 00:08:18:02): And then, like, business plus, and then business. **Thomas:** (00:08:18:04 - 00:08:21:18): And then holidays with all the dogs and cats. **Chip:** (00:08:21:20 - 00:08:26:12): Under the plane. And then we were, screaming child. See? Oh, Christ. What? **Thomas:** (00:08:26:14 - 00:08:26:18): Yeah. **Chip:** (00:08:26:18 - 00:08:34:16): That's nice. I do say, okay, so speaking of revenge, I was. Yes, there were. And you brought a child with you contributed. **Thomas:** (00:08:34:21 - 00:08:35:14): We contributed. **Chip:** (00:08:35:15 - 00:08:52:01): Here's the thing. Your child is also under two years old. Yeah. Doesn't know any better. Right. If if she and it. I don't even know. I mean we she was way the beginning at the front of the plane. Yeah. If she had a little issue. You know, that's totally understandable. There were two kids right next to us. Yeah. Who were just. You could tell. You tell? They're spoiled. Yeah. And the one was too old to be acting the way he was. Act. Okay. Look, I'm not a parent. I'm not trying to judge. **Thomas:** (00:08:59:21 - 00:09:03:15): Oh, but you were, you were an elementary school teacher. You know what these kids should be do? **Chip:** (00:09:03:15 - 00:09:04:08): Yes, I know this kid. **Thomas:** (00:09:04:09 - 00:09:09:09): You're like, this is a problem, child. I circled this kid right out of the gate. Yeah. Bad egg, bad egg. **Chip:** (00:09:09:09 - 00:09:28:17): He was just whining the whole time he was making a scene. He also hypochondriac. He was just productively coughing without covers now. And the mom was barely doing anything back. It was just. This kid was just a disaster. But I will say this. And it was right when we saw you guys after. After we got off the plane. The family is coming past us in. The kid is like riding. He shouldn't have been, but he was like riding his roller suitcase. Yeah, and it's not one of those ones that's, like, turns into a scooter. She was riding and just. I just see this kid riding and just face plants. Just like face plants. And I was like, you know what? All is right with the world again, everything is fine, and we're good. I'm now on vacation. **Thomas:** (00:09:51:03 - 00:09:53:04): Karma is a face plant. **Chip:** (00:09:53:04 - 00:09:53:22): It really is. **Thomas:** (00:09:53:23 - 00:09:56:22): At Daniel Cam International. **Chip:** (00:09:57:00 - 00:10:06:17): It really is. So, yeah, I'm just I'm having a blast so far. Again, really looking forward to the shows. So we, I'm not going to do too much partying tomorrow night because we do have to get up early. We're gonna trot the turkey. We're going to trot the turkey. We're doing A5K, I think over to Diamondhead or around. **Thomas:** (00:10:24:20 - 00:10:29:15): Yeah. Around town. I don't know. I haven't looked at the map. I assume it's around Diamond Head. Why wouldn't they? Yeah. **Chip:** (00:10:29:17 - 00:10:29:22): Yeah. **Thomas:** (00:10:29:22 - 00:10:35:20): So we paid the money. We're going to get a little tag if we can make it there in time. We're doing the Honolulu Turkey Trot. Yeah. Yeah. So we're doing that. But then I think Thursday night we're going to do Thanksgiving. And that's the real celebration time. Yes. It's all it's going to be over. The families will be together. We'll be having a good time and, not a care in the world. Man, this is just, What a great combination of everything. I love stand up comedy, tropical travel, friends, family. It's all coming together here. **Chip:** (00:11:12:08 - 00:11:18:21): It really is. And I'm just, you know. So this is just we we've been working at this for over a year now. Basically. Yeah. **Thomas:** (00:11:18:21 - 00:11:35:01): And I think that's important for people to know. Last year at Thanksgiving, we had already started negotiations with the balloon out who have been lovely to work with. Yeah. Really supportive, really fantastic organization. But like, this is over a year. And, like, I was talking to your wife, and I was like, did I overhype this for Chip? Did I overhype Honolulu? Waikiki for Chip? Do you think every day, every week, telling him, this is my favorite place in the world, shooting for a comedy show there? And then just, blowing up how great it is in his mind every Thursday. Yeah, for 42 weeks. Yes. I was going to overhype this, this experience, she said. I don't think so. I think he's really liking it. **Chip:** (00:12:02:19 - 00:12:15:16): He's right it right on board. Right on board. Yeah. It is just I am in this. I'm in the zone right now. It's very I feel very this is ridiculous. But I feel as we're looking out here, I'm going to call it just directly to the south right now. I don't know how well you can see out there. But I don't think you can really see it in the shot. But Diamond Head is the mount is right, right behind us. And just to be on the beach there. Yeah, this is very cheesy, but there is. I think it's season six of Mad Men. Don Draper. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the Brady Bunch went came here. They stayed in the Sheraton. Right. Yeah. **Thomas:** (00:12:40:18 - 00:12:42:16): We walked we walked by the Sheraton where they stood. **Chip:** (00:12:42:17 - 00:13:01:19): Like, this is just. And that's just ridiculous to me. Besides the, just the natural beauty and the air, the temperature, everything's just beautiful. It's just to be that part of history, too. It's just it's it's so cool. Like when you think of Hawaii. This is when I watched game shows in the early 80s, when I was at home sick. And it was like, win a free Hawaii vacation. This is the photo right here. Like, this is it. There's not another picture that they show. **Thomas:** (00:13:07:23 - 00:13:22:23): That's it. Yeah. That's it. This this is they really did a good job of branding it. Yeah. It does like is is awesome to be here. There's other things invoked. Yeah. When you step and speaking of the Bradys me and my dad went for a walk today. I think he's pulling some strings. But we're having I mean it's not disappointing. It's living up to the hype even in my mind. Year after year I still come back and have a fantastic time. It looks like there's interest in the show. Things are drumming up. Yeah. Tough to hit travelers with a marketing message when you don't know where they're going to be. **Chip:** (00:14:02:01 - 00:14:15:10): If you're going to Indianapolis, like, I can start months ahead of time to be like, hey, Indianapolis, I'm coming, I'm coming. But it's like, obviously people, there's locals who live here, and that would be great if they came out. But it's like it's tourist right here in Waikiki. It's like, so it's like you have to hit the ground. We showed up yesterday and it's like, all right, let's just try to get as much face time as we can. There is. I don't know if I told you about this. There is a digital poster, outside of the Blue Note, right? Yeah, that's got my. I just got my face on it. **Thomas:** (00:14:28:06 - 00:14:30:15): Oh, I saw it, baby. It's. She wanted to take some photos of me in front of the poster. He was a craftsman. Yes, yes. And, he's like, look. And he's like, hey, that's you see right there, I was like, yes, sir. Like, there always is some worry that you did overhype it, right? Or somebody's going to show up and not get it. Like I get it. Yeah. People have different things. They want a vacation. Yeah, this really just fits, me and where my family is right now. Yeah, we we like it, but some people want it a little more mellower. Right? Or some people want it a little more rustic or a little more in nature itself. **Chip:** (00:15:55:04 - 00:16:00:04): And I think you can we can also accomplish that, I think on Thursday, Friday or whatever. But some people, they just see, you know, oh there's a lot of people here, there's a lot of hotels. There's like two very nice malls and a bunch of shopping. Really close. Yeah. That's not their idea. Yeah I, I well knowing the way perspective and views work I there might have been a chance they weren't thinking about exactly where you were when they were sailing that night. But I do think if you have a sailboat with the pointy, with the triangle, like your sandwiches. **Chip:** (00:17:24:17 - 00:17:26:21): Yesterday, you know where Waikiki is. **Thomas:** (00:17:26:21 - 00:17:29:08): Let's. That's when you want to be out there, I guess. Yeah, exactly. According to the sign I saw this morning on and out of the beach. Normal sales $40. Sunset sale $50. **Chip:** (00:17:41:09 - 00:17:44:02): See that ten bucks is well worth it. **Thomas:** (00:17:44:02 - 00:18:01:17): Yeah, and they can charge a premium, because that must be a premium experience. That's got to be, So we talked about it ad nauseum. We've done no less than three podcasts where I talked about how to spend the first day in Waikiki. Yep. What have you done so far? And is it living up to the hype? **Chip:** (00:18:01:19 - 00:18:08:02): So first of all, the coffee that we just had and another one of the Hawaiian latte with the macadamia and coconut. **Thomas:** (00:18:08:02 - 00:18:10:01): At the Honolulu Coffee Roasters. **Chip:** (00:18:10:03 - 00:18:12:02): Well worth it for yesterday morning. Just. **Thomas:** (00:18:12:02 - 00:18:16:23): Yeah, yeah, we all huffed down a couple Hawaiian lattes. **Chip:** (00:18:16:23 - 00:18:33:08): Yeah, that that was right. See, I'm an early morning person too, so it's like I'm just in that time zone to where I'm trying to acclimate to the time, but also up early. So it's it's kind of nice just to be away from everybody. And yeah, you know where it's not quite as crowded yet. Just walking around. So I was down on the beach the even this morning. Just gorgeous doing that. So and then again, the floating was was great. **Thomas:** (00:18:37:12 - 00:18:38:12): Oh my god the flooding. **Chip:** (00:18:38:15 - 00:18:41:03): And again the meal at the, **Thomas:** (00:18:41:05 - 00:18:58:02): The beach bar baby we got here. We, we we live up to our own demands. Yeah. You know. Yeah. We said get there, get to the beach bar, have a burger, have a mai tai. And we certainly did. Yeah, it's the first thing we did. You checked into your room? I put my stuff in the baggage claim because ours was not ready yet. And, we got to that beach bar and shared a delicious welcome meal and drink and, I just, I don't know, like the first time I came here, that was the first thing I did. I went down there and it pretty much the same table we got. Yeah. And you, you're right there by the ocean. Diamond heads right there, peeking out. It doesn't feel like that place should exist, and it doesn't feel like people should be bringing you delicious treats there, that's for sure. **Chip:** (00:19:19:05 - 00:19:33:22): Oh, by the way. And so I guess I can say I'm staying at the outrigger and you're staying, right, but right nearby. And it's like, I feel like it's almost like I can't get away from the ocean. That's how close we are. Like every waking hour that I've been here so far, it's like I'm in spitting distance of the ocean, which is you could. Yeah. Oh, and for whatever reason, it is so loud in our room, we're up on, like, the eighth floor. And it just the waves just crashing, and it's amazing. Like, my wife is taking a nap right now. Mid-afternoon. She's got the curtains closed to make it dark, but she has the, the door open, and it's just the greatest crashing sound. **Thomas:** (00:19:54:13 - 00:19:56:05): It's nature by nature. Sound machine. Duh. **Chip:** (00:19:56:07 - 00:20:04:04): It's amazing. It's. Yeah, it's. I would say it's a Miami sound machine, but it is, Waikiki sound machine. **Thomas:** (00:20:04:06 - 00:20:13:05): So that's where we're at. We've been here for a little over 24 hours, and that's what's happened so far. We're having the best time. We're still sinking in. We're not quite there. **Chip:** (00:20:13:07 - 00:20:19:05): Now, let me ask you this. What? Okay. After the show is done. So show's over tomorrow night, we get our work done. **Thomas:** (00:20:19:05 - 00:20:19:12): Yeah. **Chip:** (00:20:19:13 - 00:20:22:16): What's the one thing? So we. And we do a Thanksgiving dinner plan, which is great. **Thomas:** (00:20:22:17 - 00:20:23:04): Yeah, yeah. **Chip:** (00:20:23:07 - 00:20:29:13): The turkey traveling Thanksgiving dinner. What's the one thing you're looking forward to for the remainder of the week? Okay. I'm looking I know there's a couple things. **Thomas:** (00:20:29:13 - 00:20:45:16): I look forward to all of it, but I think the it's it's the change of pace of just an excursion day. Yeah. We're renting some cars. We've got some, must see places around the island. I really want you and your wife to see you. I want my dad to see. Yeah. And we're just going to. We're just going to tool around the island. We're going to make a full loop, stop by some local establishments, support them financially with our patronage. Sure. And, enjoy. Reap the benefits of those exchanges and see some views. And I think, you know, I think you and your wife are a little more active than I am, with the baby at this point in our life. Yeah, sure. Yeah. But we'll we'll point out a couple of spots where I think you guys will come back in later days and go for some amazing hikes. Yeah, in some, some cool areas and, Yeah, man, I'm. I'm just excited to continue to sink in. I want to take Thanksgiving. And by the end of Thanksgiving be completely here. Yep. Be completely relaxed. Have a chip. Chantry Thanksgiving in Paradise, 2025 behind us. Yep. Looking forward to 2026.
