**Thomas** (00:00:00:01 - 00:00:09:02): Chip. Chip. I had the best time this weekend. We had crushed it in New York City. If I can be so bold as to say so. **Chip** (00:00:09:02 - 00:00:29:00): Yeah. Two girls running around town wearing our Hawaiians. Just sending the energy. The energy of New York City, I think, changed just a tiny bit this weekend because the two of us were in there, and hopefully for the better. We saw a lot of burnt ones, but we got together in New York City this weekend. Thomas. Yep. What did we do in under 48 hours? Self-guided tiki tour through the city. So, like, we had a bunch of tiki bars, you and I. I didn't even know there were that many in town now. **Thomas** (00:00:41:02 - 00:00:45:20): And then. They were incredible. We've got all the goods on what's worth the time. **Chip** (00:00:45:20 - 00:00:46:14): Wild. **Thomas** (00:00:46:14 - 00:00:51:15): They all are. We had the best time. We just took that train up and down to and fro. **Chip** (00:00:51:16 - 00:00:55:04): Walked through that park in the center of the city. What is that called? **Thomas** (00:00:55:05 - 00:00:56:03): What is it called? **Chip** (00:00:56:04 - 00:00:57:20): It's right in the center of the city. That big? **Thomas** (00:00:57:21 - 00:01:00:15): It's not south. It's kind of east and west. **Chip** (00:01:00:15 - 00:01:04:19): It's central. Yeah. It's right in the middle. Central Park, that's what it is. **Thomas** (00:01:04:21 - 00:01:05:08): That's it. **Chip** (00:01:05:12 - 00:01:29:19): I got it. We walked. We walked through Central Park. We didn't take any of those horse drawn carriages. We were on foot. We were pedestrians. We're saving the horses. And then Thomas capping it off. We went to MSG Madison Square Garden to see Goose. One of my probably top ten favorite concerts of all time, if not higher. Goose, if you don't know them, we're going to we're going to talk about them a lot today. Blew me away. It was your first show. Is my second show. Yeah. Just blew the roof off of Madison Square Garden, I thought. They're going to have to do some structural damage repairs. **Thomas** (00:01:43:21 - 00:01:47:16): Oh, yeah. The garden was destroyed by good vibes. **Chip** (00:01:47:17 - 00:01:52:09): Almost a five hour show, Thomas. Five hours of of goose. It was. **Thomas** (00:01:52:09 - 00:01:53:11): Stuffed with goose. **Chip** (00:01:53:11 - 00:01:57:09): And a lot of burnt ones in the crowd where those Hawaiians. **Thomas** (00:01:57:11 - 00:02:16:17): So many burnt ones, either wearing Hawaiians or wearing the attitude. Dude, there was just so much passion, so much good vibes, so many people there just to have a great time. We wore Hawaiian shirts all over the city. You know, we got so much positive response. It was like, I mean, that was for me in New York City. Like I lived there for a while. I've never had that many people talk to me. **Chip** (00:02:20:22 - 00:02:23:14): No, you're an off putting person, Thomas. In general, I. **Thomas** (00:02:23:14 - 00:02:24:04): Know. **Chip** (00:02:24:06 - 00:02:32:20): If I would see you walking down the street in New York, I would cross across to the other side. But not anymore. You're a different person, Thomas. **Thomas** (00:02:32:21 - 00:02:40:21): I mean, remember, we were just, like, in line, waiting to get in some place, and, a couple of ladies walked out and were just like, wow, look at those shirts. **Chip** (00:02:40:23 - 00:02:57:03): They just. It was it was a vibe. We put out a vibe that were just friendly, nice guys, and we're a little burnt and, from that sun and they it's just they were feeling good. There was a, there was a couple in front of us in the line that, that just got married, and they're chatting us up. They got literally came from the courthouse with their parents and they're just like, look at these guys. These guys are ready to have a good time, which we were. **Thomas** (00:03:06:02 - 00:03:27:11): They came from the courthouse to a tiki bar. You have to wait in line for em. So we're getting to all that. We're going to tell you, fine folks about everything we've been up to and the Big Apple, everything that happened this weekend. This is the sunburnt podcast. If you enjoy tropical travel and comedy, stay down. Front desk. **Chip** (00:03:28:07 - 00:03:35:15): Hi, this is Mr. Chantry in room 308. I was wondering if you could send up another maintenance man to fix my air conditioning. **Thomas** (00:03:35:15 - 00:03:38:13): Oh, I'm so sorry. Did Renaldo not get it, fixed for you? **Chip** (00:03:38:14 - 00:03:41:21): I mean, he fixed it, but there was a bit of an issue. **Thomas** (00:03:42:01 - 00:03:43:10): What was the issue? **Chip** (00:03:43:12 - 00:03:45:23): He is not ticklish at all. **Thomas** (00:03:46:01 - 00:04:04:15): Chip, it is episode 20 sunburnt podcast. We are 146 days away from Chip Chartres. Thanksgiving and Paradise. And we guarantee that that experience is going to be our trip to the Big Apple. Times maybe 2000, right? Yeah. **Chip** (00:04:04:17 - 00:04:25:22): Yeah. Times a ton. We are going to Hawaii this Thanksgiving, and you're coming with us. All right. We're going to Waikiki the week of Thanksgiving 2025. I am performing two show. I'm doing two comedy shows at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Waikiki on Wednesday night, the night before Thanksgiving. We want you to come out. We had such a great time. We met so many cool people in New York. We saw a bunch of burnt ones. If you're thinking, hey, I got a little time to spare. I want to get out. It's going to be cold this winter. It's been a long 2025 already. I need something to look forward to. Come with us. We are going to Hawaii. We want you to come with us. We're going to have a great week together. Just a bunch of fun people wearing our Hawaiians, having a good time. And then come see the comedy show while you're there. It's. It's going to be a blast. I'm after this weekend. I'm so much more energized for the show. **Thomas** (00:04:55:14 - 00:05:32:14): It's going to be incredible and it's not the biggest venue. There are limited tickets. And we want to pack it out with people who are passionate about just having the best Thanksgiving week of their life. Yeah, we're going to be doing some organizing, a couple of hangs. It's not going to be a super rigid like thing. But yeah, you know, if you want to go to an absolute tropical Paradise where there's going to be some comedy and there's going to be, you know, people that are like minded love tropical travel and comedy, doing a couple of hangs, whether it's on the beach, you're going to see a venue at a certain time. This is the way to do it. And yeah, after the show, I'm just so excited. Like, there was so much shared passion, such a little community that was built in MSG. Yeah. And if we can take that on a micro scale to the islands, it's going to be the best week ever. Chip. **Chip** (00:05:48:21 - 00:06:09:12): I'm so excited. By the way, you said it wasn't going to be a super rigid schedule. What if we did a different trip to Hawaii with a super rigid schedule? Just an itinerary that you cannot break from. We are in the Hawaiian Islands in Paradise, and you better be at breakfast at 6:45 a.m., showered, ready to go during sunsets. **Thomas** (00:06:09:12 - 00:06:10:22): You are cleaning the latrines. **Chip** (00:06:11:02 - 00:06:32:23): Yeah. Let's do this. This is it. Okay. If you're looking for a fun, laidback hang, come with us this Thanksgiving. If you want to go to Paradise for a very rigid, aggressive itinerary agenda where you have no time to rest. Maybe we'll do a trip in 2026 somewhere. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:06:33:01 - 00:06:50:03): Scared straight. Kauai. Real inmates. Very rigid schedule. Yes. You're going to change your perspective on what it means to be responsible and what it means to really enjoy your freedom after the trip, because we are taking it away during the journey. **Chip** (00:06:50:05 - 00:07:14:13): It's outward bound. It's like troubled teens, but for adults, you will show up to a resort in the most beautiful place on Earth. And we will strip away your belongings, your integrity, your self-worth. And we will drive you. We will break you down. And for an added thousand dollars, we'll build you back up again. **Thomas** (00:07:14:14 - 00:07:27:01): The building back up. That's a that's a valuable add on. It's outward bound. And then at the end, it becomes homeward bound, because we drop you off in the forest in the middle of the night, and you gotta find your way back. **Chip** (00:07:27:02 - 00:07:44:00): Yeah. I, by the way, if I was ever hear these stories of, like, somebody, like a hiker that gets lost in the woods and they're lost in the woods for, like, a week, and finally they get found, I would be so embarrassed by that. Like, if I did that right. And I'm not. I'm not taking any away from hikers. They're out there. They're. They're doing their thing. Like, if I was that hiker and I was finally found after, like, a week, like I'd have just like my beards, longer, tattered clothes. I've lost 10 pounds because I don't know how to forage for myself. I would still, I think, try to play it off. Oh, absolutely. The search party's there, the police are there, there's paramedics, there's helicopters. They're like, oh my God, we found him. And I'm just like sitting on a rock clinging to life. And I'm like, oh, hey guys. Yeah. No, I was just I was just going for a hike. Oh, what time is it? I boy, I guess I lost track of time and I'm just, like, limping towards them, but I would still try. Oh. Oh, you happen to have a bottle of water? Let me just suck that down for the first time in three days. But I would I would just I would be so embarrassed. I would just play it off as if nothing happened. **Thomas** (00:08:25:17 - 00:08:44:09): I think my move would be to draw a map, like a crude map of whatever I could see around me, like if I was like by a stream, there's the stream, and on it would just be a note that says stay here for. And it's like two days. The two is crossed out three days, the three crossed out and it's nine days. Stay here nine days. I always plan on staying here nine days. You happen to be here on the day I wanted to exit? Why don't we. Why don't we all go back together? **Chip** (00:08:53:14 - 00:09:17:07): I'm on walkabout. I'm on a journey of the mind in the soul. And that's what you say. It's not just like, oh, I went for a two mile hike and I got lost. And it's a week later and I missed everything. Like, I think I would. I would definitely bring up the Blair Witch. I would try to convince the people around me that I was chased by the Blair Witch for at least 48 hours. Like, I think that's that's when I say, hey guys, I would have been back. I know I totally would have made it back to the campsite where my car was, but the Blair Witch was in fact chasing me. And unfortunately I don't have the footage because she stole it from me when I was staring at the wall in her basement. **Thomas** (00:09:34:22 - 00:09:49:11): I completely relate. I have such a strong instinct inside of me to create an excuse than admit something. I'm embarrassed about it. It's the first three things that crossed my mind. If something is embarrassing. **Chip** (00:09:49:13 - 00:10:02:18): I actually have to get up right now and I'm just going to pretend that I'm stretching Thomas. But I'm, I have to switch something on the, the old camera, but, I'm going to make it feel like it was just totally natural. Like that was just part of who I am, part of what I'm doing. **Thomas** (00:10:02:20 - 00:10:04:20): Oh, what was going on with the camera chip? **Chip** (00:10:05:00 - 00:10:07:12): I just wanted to be able to see myself. Now I can see myself. **Thomas** (00:10:07:13 - 00:10:08:05): Oh, beautiful. **Chip** (00:10:08:09 - 00:10:12:08): See my sweet little face. And make sure we're still recording. We're still good. Oh, by. **Thomas** (00:10:12:08 - 00:10:17:14): The way, by the way, you saw my wife, briefly this weekend. **Chip** (00:10:17:16 - 00:10:19:00): And. Child. **Thomas** (00:10:19:02 - 00:10:26:00): Yeah. Oh, yeah. And you? I'm at the baby for the first time. And my wife's comment was Chip. Looks like he's dropped a couple days. He's not. **Chip** (00:10:26:03 - 00:10:45:03): Back. That's great. And she, she look wonderful as always. It was it was great to see your wife. Who? We. It's so funny because it's like we all met at the same time. Basically. Like we met on the same TV show. We all work together, and, you guys, you guys started, what is the word? What is. I want to be sort of, like, Shakespearean about Shakespearean about this, about your courting you. You started shacking up, I guess, right? **Thomas** (00:10:52:07 - 00:10:53:07): Yeah. **Chip** (00:10:53:09 - 00:11:06:13): And now you're happily married with a child. It was so great to see her. And, I think I, I definitely I've dropped a couple albums since, man, when you don't have craft services every day and you're sitting at a computer watching. **Thomas** (00:11:06:15 - 00:11:06:19): Yeah. **Chip** (00:11:06:21 - 00:11:14:02): The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Yeah, they for some reason, you can, you can get a little skinnier. Well, I. **Thomas** (00:11:14:02 - 00:11:34:03): Mean, when you're in charge of craft services, it really is, up to your work ethic. If you want to gain that weight, you know? Yeah, yeah. When you're personally in charge of what's next, come in and out. If you don't have the wherewithal or the drive to go get those snacks and put them in a little ball right by where you do all your work. **Chip** (00:11:34:05 - 00:11:35:08): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:11:35:10 - 00:11:39:18): Yeah. You're not going to gain weight. You're going to slim down. **Chip** (00:11:39:19 - 00:11:46:03): But if there is a 5 pound bag of mini Reese's peanut butter cups. **Thomas** (00:11:46:03 - 00:11:46:19): Yeah. **Chip** (00:11:46:20 - 00:11:50:13): I'm eating all of them. I will eat every single one of them. **Thomas** (00:11:50:13 - 00:11:57:14): It's human nature, which is like and it is something that has to be done like that's somebody's job to go get that stuff. Stop. **Chip** (00:11:57:14 - 00:11:59:15): Stop it. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:11:59:17 - 00:12:02:02): That should stop being a job. **Chip** (00:12:02:04 - 00:12:05:23): We, we used to make. Tyler. Do you remember Tyler? The the is their. **Thomas** (00:12:05:23 - 00:12:07:12): Tuesdays or Thursdays. **Chip** (00:12:07:13 - 00:12:19:14): Twizzlers. Tuesdays. We would make him go. And if he didn't have them, we would send him out because it was Twizzler Tuesday, and he would have to go out and get us bags. Literally pounds of Twizzlers every Tuesday. **Thomas** (00:12:19:16 - 00:12:20:17): Yeah, for grown ups. **Chip** (00:12:20:17 - 00:12:42:09): Just want to throw this out there. This is not necessarily a health and wellness podcast, but I will say don't eat 3 pounds of Twizzlers every Tuesday if I if I can give that piece of advice, if you're if you're trying to lose weight, if you're trying to bulk up, let's say for a role, you're trying to bulk up for, you know, you have some sort of they're you know, they're doing heavy weights. The musical. Yeah. And you really want that part then? Yes. Every Tuesday throw 3 pounds of Twizzlers in your face. **Thomas** (00:12:50:01 - 00:12:51:15): God, how good was heavyweights? **Chip** (00:12:51:20 - 00:13:04:21): It's one of those ones that I. It's a kid's movie to a certain extent, but it's just on another level. On an adult level. He's he's just. Ben Stiller is just. Just incredible. **Thomas** (00:13:04:23 - 00:13:13:19): Yeah. He's completely twisted. A very psychotic person to be in a children's movie, dealing with a very sensitive subject. **Chip** (00:13:13:21 - 00:13:22:00): Yes, it is unbelievable. But let's get back to the point of this episode, is that I look great. **Thomas** (00:13:22:02 - 00:13:24:21): Chip looks great. **Chip** (00:13:24:23 - 00:13:35:20): So it was, you know, it was great to see your wife and, tell her thank you for the. I did drop a couple of. I'm feeling good about that. Still want to drop a couple more? So today is Tuesday, but not going to have those two houses today. **Thomas** (00:13:35:20 - 00:13:37:19): Yeah, we've knocked off the Tuesdays. **Chip** (00:13:37:21 - 00:13:46:11): Yeah. And, got to see your kid, which is. She's not a an infant anymore. She is a a a child, a person. **Thomas** (00:13:46:13 - 00:13:52:05): Yeah. Where she is, hurtling towards toddler ism. She can almost walk. She is. **Chip** (00:13:52:05 - 00:13:54:19): I gave her a couple of fist bumps. She returned the favor. **Thomas** (00:13:55:01 - 00:13:59:04): Yeah. No, she loves she's a big fist bumper. Yeah. She won't leave you hanging. **Chip** (00:13:59:06 - 00:14:04:19): Yeah. No, she did not. And, And then you and I. Tommy, we went out on the town. **Thomas** (00:14:05:00 - 00:14:13:05): We went out on the town. And you know what? I also realized, roughly roughly ten years to the day. **Chip** (00:14:13:10 - 00:14:14:00): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:14:14:02 - 00:14:16:08): Since we started working together, since we met. **Chip** (00:14:16:10 - 00:14:36:03): I started working. I want to say it was August 10th of 2015. So just about a month off. In a month, it will be it will be a decade since the three of us met. The two of you got married? I got engaged during that, right after. Right after. Right after we came back. It was. It was in the works. I bought the ring. **Thomas** (00:14:38:02 - 00:14:41:05): I remember you talking about the ring in the, the old writers room there. **Chip** (00:14:41:07 - 00:15:03:03): Yeah, yeah. So, man, 2015. What a year that to set us off. And then ten years later, we just had a weekend for the ages. Yeah, the the largest apple I know. All right. Okay, so just real quick, just to just to remind everybody. What did we do? Bullet points, real quick. Tiki, self-guided tiki bar tour. We hung out with a bunch of my college and comedy friends. **Thomas** (00:15:06:07 - 00:15:06:15): Yep. **Chip** (00:15:06:15 - 00:15:15:21): We went to see goose. Yep. One of my favorite concerts ever. And we're getting into it. Let's do it. Let's do we kick it off with the. I mean, let's go chronologically. **Thomas** (00:15:16:02 - 00:15:16:21): Yeah. **Chip** (00:15:16:23 - 00:15:39:10): We went with the power of our telephones in our pockets. We were able to discern that there is a number of bars of the tiki persuasion in New York City, and we hit basically everyone that was open at, you know, two in the afternoon on a Friday. **Thomas** (00:15:39:12 - 00:15:53:07): Yeah. We, we ordered them pretty little maids all in a row. We prioritized highest ratings versus are they even open right now? And we hit. **Chip** (00:15:53:09 - 00:15:54:06): All of them. **Thomas** (00:15:54:08 - 00:15:59:17): Yeah, it was incredible. We started on the Upper West Side. **Chip** (00:15:59:19 - 00:16:00:23): 86th Street, baby. **Thomas** (00:16:00:23 - 00:16:07:15): 86th Street. Tiki check ship. I was completely blown away by tiki check. **Chip** (00:16:07:17 - 00:16:26:20): It's it's just a corner bar, but it's open air. And they have some outdoor seating. They have those, like, fun. What do you call. They actually like thatched kind umbrella kind of situation. So, you know, like they're given the tiki vibe outside. We sat inside of the bar, but very, like, tiled, very, you know, tropical looking. Yeah. I mean, you're not drinking a drink unless it is in a fancy, fancy tiki shape or color now. **Thomas** (00:16:33:21 - 00:16:40:08): And they're, they're very upfront on their menu, too. They, they show you the fancy cup that your drinks are going to come in. **Chip** (00:16:40:08 - 00:16:42:07): Because I want to know what I'm going to be holding, you know. **Thomas** (00:16:42:08 - 00:17:03:07): Oh, yeah. Absolutely. And it's like, you know, it's it's dazzling for the it's it's nice to be surprised sometimes. Yeah. But if it was coming in just kind of like a clear, normal glass, they gave you the heads up. If it was coming in a fun glass, I let you know what was going on. And I think the thing that was most impressive to me about this place was just the casual atmosphere. It was like, of all the places, I think if you were just going to sneak a tiki experience on somebody, this is the one you could say, meet me at Tiki Check. They'd obviously know something, but it wouldn't be too weird. It's open air. Most of it's outside. Yeah, and the sandwiches, the chip, the sandwiches. **Chip** (00:17:22:03 - 00:17:52:15): All right. We need to talk about this. They had chicken sandwiches available. Yeah. Like I had, like, I think like a hot honey one. Like a little spicy, a little tangy, a little sweet. It it just came out and, like, no frills. Just came in like a one of those little bags, like a little, aluminum bag, kind of, you know, situation that, you know, hot dog in in middle school, $5, $5 chicken sandwiches on the Upper West Side of New York City, where you're going to pay $45 for a hamburger anywhere else. **Thomas** (00:17:52:15 - 00:18:14:04): Mine was a chicken sandwich, and it had real Chick-Fil-A vibes to it. Yeah, like it felt like an elevated chick fil A, and mine had pineapple. And then just like a little bit of this kind of bitter ish sauce on top of it to counteract the sweetness. Yeah. And it was phenomenal. I mean, I can't eat a $5 meal in New York City. Of course they are leveraging it because you need something to eat. They want to get people in the door and then, yeah, tiki drinks are not the cheapest thing in the world. **Chip** (00:18:22:02 - 00:18:23:07): No. **Thomas** (00:18:23:09 - 00:18:42:12): But it was just amazing. We we went in there, we ordered a sandwich first, just sat there and kind of enjoyed it. Perused the menu, got our drinks. Everybody that worked there was incredibly nice. They. Yeah, they took pictures of us, did a little photo shoot. Those are going up somewhere at our request. **Chip** (00:18:42:12 - 00:18:48:19): It wasn't like they just started filming or taking photos surreptitiously. Like we asked them to take photos. **Thomas** (00:18:49:00 - 00:18:49:12): Yeah. **Chip** (00:18:49:13 - 00:18:58:16): Yeah, that would be a little off putting if you just went into bar and started sitting down, and the bartender just starts snapping photos of you, that would be I would say that's in the negative column, but this. **Thomas** (00:18:58:17 - 00:19:03:17): Just, just a guy with a mustache, just has a GoPro on you while he's making your drinks. **Chip** (00:19:03:22 - 00:19:22:03): Just taking some snaps. Yeah, just like just like a mustachioed man with, like, one of those old timey cameras where you have to put, like, the cloth over your head, you know, just like the flash goes off. No, they were great. And, it was it was nice quiet, too, because we literally showed up at noon, I think, on a Friday, you know, so this midday. **Thomas** (00:19:22:03 - 00:19:29:05): This was not the first bar we showed up to and had to wait for it to open. This day or not the last. **Chip** (00:19:29:07 - 00:19:36:23): Yeah. We did. Yeah. There is something about. Okay. You know how people brag about like, closing down about, like a closed down the bar last night, 3 a.m.? **Thomas** (00:19:37:01 - 00:19:37:13): **Chip** (00:19:37:15 - 00:19:39:23): We open bars on us. That's our five. **Thomas** (00:19:40:04 - 00:19:40:14): Yeah. **Chip** (00:19:40:14 - 00:20:00:04): We don't closed down bars. We open bars. We're good for business. We show up at noon, ready to go by 2 a.m.. I'm asleep. Hey, you know what I mean? I don't need. So I think we. I open up that bar today. We did that a number of times on Friday. Yeah, we I think I think it's, maybe t shirts. Did you say we open bars? Yeah, we open up the bar. I because that's a more friendly. Like closing the bar is. There's something I don't know which which one is more troublesome. **Thomas** (00:20:11:20 - 00:20:13:06): I think it's opening. **Chip** (00:20:13:08 - 00:20:18:22): You think opening is sadder because. Yeah, it's like. It's like you're fiending. You're waiting. You can't. You're standing outside waiting to go. Well, it's. **Thomas** (00:20:18:22 - 00:20:22:21): Like it's like you probably should be working when these bars open. **Chip** (00:20:22:22 - 00:20:24:20): That's that is. **Thomas** (00:20:24:22 - 00:20:31:07): That is somebody who's if you consistently do that, that's somebody who has made drinking their business. **Chip** (00:20:31:09 - 00:20:33:05): Which to a certain extent is what we're doing here. **Thomas** (00:20:33:05 - 00:20:35:20): This is technically work. **Chip** (00:20:35:22 - 00:20:36:03): Dude. **Thomas** (00:20:36:04 - 00:20:55:16): This was just the best day. It was like we hadn't hung out, just to hang out in a really long time. Like, I love it, like, that we make so many things together. Yeah, and that we're always working. But there is, like, generally an element of, like, even if we're catching up even really and pleasant, like, oh, and we need to do this thing. **Chip** (00:20:55:22 - 00:20:58:23): Yeah. And there is this thing, there's a to do list. **Thomas** (00:20:58:23 - 00:21:28:19): Yeah, yeah. So like, there was no to do list. Like we kind of got together, we knew we were going to hit some, some spots, some TGI bars like see what kind of island vibes we could find in the Big Apple. Yeah. But when we got in there, dude, it just flowed so smooth. And I'm not going to say the tiki drinks didn't just take a layer off of like, of any kind of like, I don't know, anxiety or any kind of need to feel super productive. Like we just got in there, we had some great snacks when we had when when they didn't provide snacks later on in the day, we just ducked into a bodega. **Chip** (00:21:40:13 - 00:21:42:19): Yes we did. Got some sweet, sweet cakes. **Thomas** (00:21:42:19 - 00:22:00:19): We got we got to have some tasty treats to take this edge off. But yeah, dude, we the whole day just flowed. We had nothing on the schedule like when we wanted to take a break and give ourselves a little bit more time. We just took a walk through the entirety of Central Park. **Chip** (00:22:01:00 - 00:22:02:01): Yeah we did. **Thomas** (00:22:02:03 - 00:22:07:22): We saw off 18,000 step afternoon, by the way. Yep. I looked at my phone. **Chip** (00:22:08:00 - 00:22:19:13): I had at the end of the night I had 30,000 steps. That's what I did was like 15 miles. Yeah, yeah. It's, I call us Muppets. We took Manhattan. **Thomas** (00:22:19:15 - 00:22:20:14): Yeah. **Chip** (00:22:21:09 - 00:22:23:00): I want to get back to the drinks, by the way. **Thomas** (00:22:23:00 - 00:22:23:12): Yeah, yeah. **Chip** (00:22:23:12 - 00:22:28:18): Let's get at this first place. My my drink. I had to get it. There was, like, no other choice. **Thomas** (00:22:28:19 - 00:22:29:14): Yeah. **Chip** (00:22:29:16 - 00:22:33:13): There there was a ceramic shark glass. **Thomas** (00:22:33:15 - 00:22:33:23): Yeah. **Chip** (00:22:34:04 - 00:22:43:20): So it's it's literally like, as if the sharks jumping up from the cover of jaws, my favorite movie. So it's like I had to get it. It was a drink called shark Snacks. **Thomas** (00:22:43:22 - 00:22:44:18): **Chip** (00:22:44:20 - 00:23:06:12): Rum, tequila, apricot. First of all, apricot. We're going to get in that in a second. Yeah. Rum, tequila. Apricot, coconut, grapefruit and lime. It dumped into a shark, a ceramic sharks mouth. And then they had, like, a little toothpick with. There was like a little gummy fish on it. And something else, like a little candy, little garnish, little something fun. Delicious. Okay, first of all, an apricot on the Upper West. I didn't even know what an apricot looks like. Tops. I'm going to be honest with you. I, who dreams up an apricot for as part of a drink. I guess there's, like, apricot brandy or whatever, but. **Thomas** (00:23:20:19 - 00:23:21:16): Yeah. **Chip** (00:23:21:18 - 00:23:23:21): I mean, going the extra mile. **Thomas** (00:23:23:21 - 00:23:28:18): Yeah, it's also pretty strong. I would have to imagine it gave it gave the whole thing a little life. **Chip** (00:23:28:19 - 00:23:42:19): It it did it, it woke me up. There was definitely a lot of coconut feel to it. Like that's what I that's what I gleaned most from this thing. But it was like a fun. It was just a fun. It was it was a fun drink to walk around with. Got a little straw out of the shark's mouth. **Thomas** (00:23:42:22 - 00:23:43:08): Yeah. **Chip** (00:23:43:13 - 00:23:56:14): Here's the thing, by the way. One issue with bars alcohol is sometimes people get a little, you know, they get a little achy in them and they get a little violent right at the end of the movie. Right? You might be an angry drunk. **Thomas** (00:23:56:14 - 00:23:58:02): Yeah. **Chip** (00:23:58:04 - 00:24:07:19): If you're walking around with a ceramic shark glass or, let's say, like a what, a glass this, like, shaped like a Polynesian lady with an umbrella sticking out of it. **Thomas** (00:24:07:19 - 00:24:08:15): Yeah. **Chip** (00:24:08:17 - 00:24:21:11): You're not getting violent. I think that's what I think. Every bar should lean into the tiki vibe and just. I don't care if you're drinking whiskey, if you're drinking beer, or if you're drinking a Bahama mama. It doesn't matter. **Thomas** (00:24:21:13 - 00:24:22:02): Yeah. **Chip** (00:24:22:04 - 00:24:36:21): It goes in the glass. You get some ice, you get an umbrella, you get like, a slice of, you know, like a little slice of orange or whatever. And people would be a lot more peaceful. You can't be angry when you're drinking that. **Thomas** (00:24:36:23 - 00:24:42:18): Yeah, I mean, and you can get very angry, but you're well aware of how silly you would look. **Chip** (00:24:42:23 - 00:24:43:16): Yes. **Thomas** (00:24:43:18 - 00:24:53:14): Like, you know, drinking, is just spitballing here, but drinking. Drinking, whiskey on the rocks out of a Bart Simpson mug. **Chip** (00:24:53:16 - 00:24:54:11): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:24:54:13 - 00:24:57:20): It's going to be pretty hard. Like, what would you say to me? **Chip** (00:24:57:22 - 00:25:04:03): Yeah. Eat my shorts. It's not. It's not coming to that. Yeah. You look like a silly, silly giant boy when you. **Thomas** (00:25:04:03 - 00:25:14:12): Were holding that giant shark mug. Yeah, that giant shark cup. It was very clear that the aggressive one in the relationship was the mug, not the man. **Chip** (00:25:14:12 - 00:25:17:07): It's the mug, not the man. At 100% at. **Thomas** (00:25:17:07 - 00:25:21:04): The Tiki Chick, I went with their classic Mai tai. **Chip** (00:25:21:06 - 00:25:22:05): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:25:22:07 - 00:25:48:12): And it was super delicious. It was lime based. That was kind of the citrus in it. So it wasn't like what I would consider the classic, like, Hawaiian Waikiki Mai Tai. Right. That is going to be more of a pineapple juice and orange juice. Guava base. Sure. For the the juice portion and then heavy, heavy, heavy on the rums. This was definitely also heavy. Heavy, heavy on the rums, but it just has, like, a little more, a little less sweetness to it than, I would say a Waikiki Mai Tai would. **Chip** (00:25:58:14 - 00:26:08:06): Which, I do appreciate, because that is one thing. After our afternoon, like, we had a bunch of drinks and it wasn't just the alcohol, but, like, we had a lot of that sweet, sweet sugar in us. **Thomas** (00:26:08:07 - 00:26:09:19): We all love sugar babies. **Chip** (00:26:09:19 - 00:26:25:18): I love a margarita, for example. But like my favorite margarita is the word that I know, like in Philadelphia, for example, are like the least sweet ones. You can't have a sweet two sweet margarita. You got to be a little, little bitter little, you know, you just you got to take that sweetness away. You know? It's just it's too it's too much after a while. So, Yeah. So I do appreciate that. And, by the way, and at this place, they were also shown movies on the wall. They were just projecting. Yeah. Beach movie. I think they're actually showing Titanic. When we were. **Thomas** (00:26:34:13 - 00:26:42:22): There. They were showing Titanic when we were there. But I saw them. They had like, some kind of streaming service and you could see what they had watched recently. **Chip** (00:26:43:00 - 00:26:43:15): **Thomas** (00:26:43:17 - 00:26:52:18): They were cruising through it and, jazz, jazz was definitely, you know, what? What they were watching either the day before or whatever. It was the last one. Watch. **Chip** (00:26:52:20 - 00:27:07:12): But this is just what it is. We are in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, of New York City, Upper West Side. But then you're just you walk in the spa and you're transformed. You're in a different place. We were in, we were in a tropical location for about an hour. **Thomas** (00:27:07:14 - 00:27:10:04): Yeah, it was fantastic. So. **Chip** (00:27:10:05 - 00:27:11:10): So we leave Tiki check. **Thomas** (00:27:11:15 - 00:27:12:15): Yeah. **Chip** (00:27:12:17 - 00:27:25:08): Had some fun there. We head out, we walk through Central Park. Yeah, I had a blast in Central Park. Checking it all out, watching all the people there having a great time. We saw a lot of burnt ones through there. Just guys in their Hawaiian shirts walking around enjoying Central Park on Friday. **Thomas** (00:27:25:09 - 00:27:31:06): We had we took a lot of pictures. We took a lot of pictures of people that did not know they were getting pictures that staggered. **Chip** (00:27:31:08 - 00:27:43:18): Okay. And yes, okay. Bye. Thank you. So we're taking pictures of people in the Hawaiian shirts. We're both wearing Hawaiian shirts. We're just. And by the way, like, what do you. I think they're probably used to it a tiki chick, but like, just two grown men in t in. **Thomas** (00:27:43:20 - 00:27:50:02): Oh, yeah, we were the we were the only two non employees. They're wearing Hawaiian shirts. **Chip** (00:27:50:07 - 00:27:51:06): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:27:51:08 - 00:27:54:05): We dressed up for the occasion and I think you got to. **Chip** (00:27:54:07 - 00:28:10:11): Yeah. Yes. Absolutely. So we're just walking around but we just brought a vibe to New York City I think of just two gentlemen walking around in their shorts and Hawaiian shirts, saying, hey, we're we're here to have a good time. We're just here to have fun, guys. That's that's all we're here to do, and not get crazy. Just, just enjoying ourselves. So then we we ended up in at 30 Rock. We're walking around 30 Rock. Oh, wow. And we're looking for our next tiki bar. The one tiki bar we wanted to go to was closed temporarily. Hopefully, hopefully for renovations to make it instead. **Thomas** (00:28:25:12 - 00:28:28:11): Right I was, I went on their website, closed for renovations, so. **Chip** (00:28:28:11 - 00:28:37:02): They're just going to make it even more years. Then we decide to planes, trains and automobiles in, jump in to the subway. **Thomas** (00:28:37:05 - 00:28:37:17): Yeah. **Chip** (00:28:37:19 - 00:28:42:18): Head out to the most tropical place you can imagine. Yeah, Brooklyn, New. **Thomas** (00:28:42:18 - 00:28:46:11): York, Brooklyn, New York, where the palm trees sway. **Chip** (00:28:46:13 - 00:28:47:04): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:28:47:06 - 00:29:03:02): And the ocean breezes gently glide over your face, by the way. Like it? Well, it was a like this wasn't the hottest day by any means. We got spared. Yeah, but boy, has it been hot and humid. On the East coast. **Chip** (00:29:03:02 - 00:29:13:15): You definitely. You were in for the week, DC in New York. Like, you definitely got some of that swamp action and, apologies from everybody on the on the East Coast. It was, it was a scorcher this week. **Thomas** (00:29:13:15 - 00:29:33:03): Yeah, it was a swamp, but we got a little reprieve on our big walk day, so I feel very lucky for that. Yeah. But the next place we went, we hopped right on that sweet little train. Yeah. We actually had one misstep. We were heading towards a tiki bar that would not open for a couple of hours. **Chip** (00:29:33:04 - 00:29:43:14): Yeah. So I thought, by the way, I was a little. I was a little upset. I was like, maybe this day isn't just meant to be. We hit one tiki bar and that's it. They're all going to be closed. But we regrouped. **Thomas** (00:29:43:15 - 00:29:44:01): Regrouped. **Chip** (00:29:44:01 - 00:29:46:02): We found a second tiki bar in Brooklyn. **Thomas** (00:29:46:02 - 00:29:59:01): They were the two that looks worth hitting. They were just like in distance order. We were going to hit Sunken Harbor Club first. Yep. And then go to the Zombie Hut. Yeah, what a great name. The zombie. **Chip** (00:29:59:03 - 00:30:11:18): Come on. It's you can you can look at stores nowadays and you can just look at a building that might be like a restaurant or a diner or even a dentist's office, and you're like, you can just tell that used to be a zombie hut. Yeah. Okay. **Thomas** (00:30:11:18 - 00:30:17:08): Yeah. So we ended up at the Zombie Hut in downtown Brooklyn. **Chip** (00:30:17:14 - 00:30:30:11): This was more down and dirty. This is your Brooklyn straight up bar like bar front. You walk in the bars on the right, a couple of chairs on your left. But it is all hardcore tiki voodoo themed. **Thomas** (00:30:30:12 - 00:30:35:04): Yeah, it's it's got a great little backyard area too. That was like. **Chip** (00:30:35:04 - 00:30:35:16): It did. **Thomas** (00:30:35:18 - 00:30:56:13): Up. Had some nice, nice decorations outdoors as well. Indoor had some really fun art, some murals on the walls, some paintings, some little, you know, some little tiki touches here and there. And once again, we were there very early on a Friday, so it was practically empty. Yeah. And, what was the name of the drink we got? Yep. We we both got, like, there was a big menu that had drinks all around the outside, and then they had one specialty. **Chip** (00:31:04:17 - 00:31:09:17): Yeah, but we're like, we had we both have to get this one because it was like their signature drink. We both got the frozen zombie. **Thomas** (00:31:09:23 - 00:31:13:03): The frozen zombie. Yeah. That was it was the frozen zombie. Yeah. **Chip** (00:31:13:03 - 00:31:23:15): The frozen zombie is rum. Just lots of rum, pineapple and OJ. I mean, just like. And then just blended frozen drink in a straw. **Thomas** (00:31:23:16 - 00:31:24:17): Yeah, with. **Chip** (00:31:24:19 - 00:31:31:13): A rim, you know, like to put the salted rim out there like on a mug or whatever. We still to this day Thomas don't know what. **Thomas** (00:31:31:15 - 00:31:47:23): I, what that regret. Okay. Well, it's when we invented the weirdest tropical drinks. We had a couple episodes back. Yeah, the Bahama Grand Mama, which was your creation, had a, What what was the rim? It was like, cough drops or. **Chip** (00:31:47:23 - 00:31:52:05): Mom, I think it was. Yeah. Yeah, I think it was cough drop rim. **Thomas** (00:31:52:07 - 00:31:58:15): I if you told me those were crushed up halls on the rim of that glass, I would not be shocked. **Chip** (00:31:58:17 - 00:32:01:17): But I will. I was tasting Samantha Lipton. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:32:01:19 - 00:32:06:23): I will also tell you for my second drink of the day, I had already had a little alcohol on the. The palate. **Chip** (00:32:07:01 - 00:32:08:05): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:32:08:07 - 00:32:16:13): I you remember, like, I, I took one sip of this thing and I was like, I don't this is straight gasoline. Like, I get. **Chip** (00:32:16:15 - 00:32:24:16): It. It's so funny. It literally said I was looking on there on the website, on the menu. It literally says, watch out for that first sip. Oh, literally. That's what it said. **Thomas** (00:32:24:16 - 00:32:28:00): Yes. Oh, wow. So I didn't I didn't get that memo. **Chip** (00:32:28:02 - 00:32:29:13): I mean, I saw that after the fact. **Thomas** (00:32:29:13 - 00:32:45:12): Yeah. Yeah. But you kind of I thought you really handled that first half of the drink like, an absolute champ. I was struggling a little bit, but. Well, then I got half about halfway through that baddy. It started to go down. So smooth chat. **Chip** (00:32:45:14 - 00:33:08:04): It it went down. That zombie was frozen. It was a frozen delight. Just like an orange slushie going down real good. But that just that rim like. And I was just like, I had to get all of the rim like it was. Yeah. Was it like pineapple lifesavers was it like frozen orange juice concentrate. It was like it could have been Pop Rocks for all I care. Just like diced up nerds. **Thomas** (00:33:10:07 - 00:33:12:23): Yeah, yeah, like nerds that like that. **Chip** (00:33:13:00 - 00:33:17:07): Like some sort of, like, exotic Japanese Jolly Rancher that they just. **Thomas** (00:33:17:09 - 00:33:33:21): Oh, that's. I'm going with a an exotic Japanese Jolly Rancher. It was a mystery. Hard candy or a mystery hard cough drop or whatever it was. It was mysterious. And I wouldn't exactly say it was more intriguing than delicious yet. **Chip** (00:33:33:22 - 00:33:53:14): No, it wasn't the most delicious thing, but it was like I felt like I was doing something, adventurous by, you know, tasting this rim because it wasn't. Yeah, it wasn't like, oh, this is this is very delicious. It was like, this is I'm trying to discern what this is. I, I'm throwing it out there. I shouldn't give our, our ideas out publicly. But if you and I opened a bar, I think the rims. I think we can make that a thing. Like, that's it's like the stuffed crust of pizza, but it's like we put Pop Rocks on there. We put nerds. Like, what if it's just like, you know, hey, crushed up cough drops for somebody who needs, you know, lozenge, you know, is it or, like, just for the crazy ones? It's like, all right. It's a, it's a vodka red bull with crushed up Adderall on the rim, you know, just like let them. Yeah. Have or just like, you know, oh, what do we have here? Just like for your, you know, like, for your nostalgic people. It's like, it's Kool-Aid in gin and on the rim is just crushed up old Star Wars figures, you know, just just grind it up, Giagos. We just throw on there. It's it. Maybe it's like a country theme where it's like, you know, whiskey, lemonade. And it's just. We just put gravel on the rim. **Thomas** (00:34:50:22 - 00:34:54:12): Yeah. A blue collar rim. **Chip** (00:34:54:14 - 00:35:07:11): I think that's, I think it's just I think that's what we do. It's, it's all about the rims and I by the way I am not about to brainstorm what we name this bar, so let's, let's skip that but. **Thomas** (00:35:07:15 - 00:35:14:03): Or what that or what the employment, title would be for somebody who came up with these toppings. **Chip** (00:35:14:04 - 00:35:27:17): Eggs. Exactly. Let's just let's just move on to that. So. But, zombie hot man, just what a great bar. Somebody I think somebody told us afterwards that they knew somebody who would go there all the time in Brooklyn. **Thomas** (00:35:27:23 - 00:35:45:12): Yeah. My wife, my wife was hanging out with, her best friend from high school who lives in New York City, and her husband grew up in New York. And he was like, yeah, I used to go there with my friends in high school. That street was the only place you could go where, like, they surely weren't going to charge you. He's like, had been to the zombie hut a billion times since I was 16 years. **Chip** (00:35:49:10 - 00:35:54:12): Old as a youngster. What a fun place to be as a drunken teenager, man. **Thomas** (00:35:54:14 - 00:36:19:01): Yeah, I mean, what a yeah, there, there seemed like a lot of opportunities. Yeah, a lot of opportunities to get into that kind of stuff in the city. Back in the day, it was just one big Gossip Girl episode. Chip. They're all running around. That's all wealthy. Fake IDs. Yeah. Really living the dream. And, I will say, I think it did say there was something mysterious on the menu. It was like our secret recipe or whatever. Yeah, I, I think 100% in my mind, the orange juice was not orange juice. I think it was orange juice. Concentrate. Yeah, they really blasted that thing with orange flavor. Yeah. To get that amount of alcohol. Kind of like swirling around it. This was by far the heaviest drink we had of the day, in my opinion. **Chip** (00:36:43:11 - 00:36:48:09): Absolutely. Yeah. It was. Yeah. It it threw me for a bit of a loop in a good way. **Thomas** (00:36:48:11 - 00:36:55:08): Yeah. But but the conversation was just flowing. It really loosened things up. We were having the best time just telling stories. **Chip** (00:36:55:10 - 00:36:57:06): Sitting the back there. Yeah. **Thomas** (00:36:57:07 - 00:37:10:04): The music in there wasn't what you would expect. It wasn't like anything island themed. It was just kind of like some, some great alternative music from, you know, our high school days, basically college days. **Chip** (00:37:10:05 - 00:37:13:16): They probably saw us walking in there like puts don't up a pilots on stat. **Thomas** (00:37:13:18 - 00:37:23:21): Yeah. Well I think like I don't think they as much saw us walking in as they knew. We are the types of people that are going to walk in on this Friday afternoon at. **Chip** (00:37:23:21 - 00:37:24:22): 330 on a, on a. **Thomas** (00:37:24:22 - 00:37:29:17): Friday, 330, just going to be blazing a Hawaiian order. Our stiffest drink. **Chip** (00:37:29:19 - 00:37:30:02): Yep. **Thomas** (00:37:30:07 - 00:37:53:22): Sit out in the back. Only have one. Then go, hit the bodega next door and walk off. However many, if you had to guess how many shots or what the equivalent of just a normal drink like a rum and Coke would be alcohol content wise, compared to the drink we had at the, Zombie Hut. What would you guess, ship? Just just in your mind. **Chip** (00:37:56:11 - 00:37:57:15): I'd say thrice. **Thomas** (00:37:57:20 - 00:37:58:15): That. Exactly. **Chip** (00:37:58:16 - 00:38:01:22): Thrice the shots I was. **Thomas** (00:38:02:00 - 00:38:05:05): I thought that drink felt like about three drinks worth of drinks. **Chip** (00:38:05:10 - 00:38:09:21): Yeah. And it wasn't a big drink either. Was kind of small. And they fit a lot of rum in there. Maybe. **Thomas** (00:38:10:00 - 00:38:20:06): Yeah, that they rammed it up, but, what a what a great, time. And I was definitely feeling a little something. We had a buzz. I wasn't drunk by any means. **Chip** (00:38:20:06 - 00:38:37:10): No at all. I never during the day, but just just a nice buzz. And that's that's the way. Do I think people think, like, bar crawls and all that stuff. And you see some of these, like, you know, they do like the Aaron Express in Philadelphia, the, the Saint Patrick's Day or they do like the everybody dresses up like Santa Claus and just gets wasted. And it's like 23 year olds and they're just obliterated. It's like, that's not the vibe we're looking for. It's just like, let's just create a buzz throughout the day. Yeah. So we get through two places with that nice buzz on, we go to the bodega and then see, here's what it is Sam is. And I want the listeners to really pick up on this because I'm not always a yes man. Yeah, I was on the fence because I then had to, like, you had to go back to your wife. I had to go back to Hoboken, to my buddies where I was staying there. And you're like, all right, this next place doesn't open till five. It was only like 415. And we're like, it was like one subway stop away or something. And we're just like, let's just head back. Like, part of me was like, no, let's just head back. We had two nice places, but fine. And then I was like, no, we're here, let's do it. Let's go to this third place, I guess. **Thomas** (00:39:29:16 - 00:39:31:11): So, yeah. **Chip** (00:39:31:13 - 00:39:36:10): And the biggest pay off of the weekend, maybe. **Thomas** (00:39:36:12 - 00:39:57:12): One of the coolest places I've ever been in my whole life, dude. Yeah. We get to the place, it's, you know, about to open. It's like, 5 p.m.. I've got a wife and a baby that are expecting. Have dinner with me around 630 M, and I just kind of have to put a limit on it. I'm like, if we don't get up there by 515, we probably just need to scoot. You agreed? **Chip** (00:39:58:14 - 00:40:11:10): I'm not. I'm not a stand in line for a bar type of guy. Yeah, never. I don't have that. Yeah. And so part of me was like, I was hoping the line was going to move. And then part of me was like, all right, hopefully we just hit 515. We get to get out of here. Yeah. Yeah, like I. **Thomas** (00:40:11:10 - 00:40:19:07): Was there's there's no sign for this place either. And there's no indication that this line is going to the bar. We kind of have to ask around. **Chip** (00:40:19:07 - 00:40:22:10): So it's it's in front of this very nice bar. **Thomas** (00:40:22:10 - 00:40:23:23): Restaurant. Really nice restaurant. Yeah. **Chip** (00:40:24:00 - 00:40:44:15): Like high end bar restaurant. Like, you know, wood, kind of mahogany. Kind of like, you know, dark wood. Yeah. And beautiful. So we're lined up out inside of it, and then we see that inside the bar that there is maybe ten more people inside. Yeah. Still lined up to go into another door that takes you upstairs to this mysterious, unmarked other place. **Thomas** (00:40:44:15 - 00:40:54:23): That was a disheartening moment when we realized that we weren't fourth in line. We were like 14th. I was just like, God, I don't know if we're going to get in there. By 515. They were supposed to start taking people up at five. **Chip** (00:40:54:23 - 00:40:56:16): That's it was like five accurately. **Thomas** (00:40:56:19 - 00:41:22:21): Yeah. But we get inside and then it's just this beautiful old school diner. What, you think like Charlie Chaplin? What? Yeah. Ate at when he went and visited New York. You know, it's just like old school crystal chandelier type place. And there is this little door that, like, you walk inside and turn to the left, and there's a door and it's got a porte window. Yeah, like a shit hole or a submarine. **Chip** (00:41:25:18 - 00:41:26:13): Yeah. **Thomas** (00:41:26:15 - 00:41:47:15): And we're just like, okay, that's it. There's there's no indication that anything's up there other than just this little, little detail on the door. We we wait our turn in line, we finally get upstairs, and we are whisked away into, like, a Disney level decorated experience. **Chip** (00:41:47:15 - 00:42:02:00): You know how, like, when you're waiting in line to go to, like, Pirates of the Caribbean or whatever, and they try to dress it up to make you feel like you're in there. So yeah, you realize you're not just standing in a line for an hour and a half. It was that. But the highest end version of that. **Thomas** (00:42:02:02 - 00:42:07:21): Wow, what an experience. And it's so intimate too. Like, what would you say, like 12 tables total for the whole place. **Chip** (00:42:07:21 - 00:42:19:04): Yeah, probably 25 people. Maybe. There was a small bar and then. Yeah, maybe eight tables. And it's one of those places that I do appreciate. So it's kind of like a speakeasy kind of situation. Yeah. So I guess we should tell. So it's called the Sunken. **Thomas** (00:42:19:04 - 00:42:20:09): Car Harbor Club. **Chip** (00:42:20:11 - 00:42:39:04): Sunken Harbor Club, Brooklyn, New York, and you had to be seated so the hostess, she would take you up one party at a time. So it wasn't just like they opened the doors. It was free for all. She's like, how many in your party? And then she takes you up the stairs and you get seated. And not one of these places where, I appreciate this, where it's like a bar where you can just, like, stand around and walk around. It's like you have a seat. This is where you're sitting. **Thomas** (00:42:41:17 - 00:42:44:15): You're not going to have to fight for a bartender's attention. **Chip** (00:42:44:17 - 00:42:46:21): No, there is a waitstaff there for you. **Thomas** (00:42:46:21 - 00:42:50:05): There's a place for you to be or you're not getting it right. **Chip** (00:42:50:06 - 00:43:05:06): And so and and that was the thing. The two, the very nice, women behind us who again started chatting us up just because we're wearing Hawaiians, complimented our shirts. We're giving off a vibe that we're we're not, animals. We were nice enough people. **Thomas** (00:43:05:06 - 00:43:06:09): We're not predators. **Chip** (00:43:06:12 - 00:43:34:21): No. And, we are prey. And we got in. They didn't get in until we were leaving. Like, we were like the last table of the first seating. Yep. So we sit down and, so it you were just surrounded. It felt like you were in. There's no windows. Yeah. So it's completely it's dark and it's you're inside the hull of a ship, and it almost felt like the ship was like, almost like upside down or whatever. Like there's just wood all over, and then just these windows that were that look like you were looking out into the bottom of the ocean. Yeah. With just mermaids and, divers and fish just all over the place. They had really cool music playing, like, kind of surf, you know, tropical sort of music. Yeah. And then over top of that music, they also had. And you were the one that, alerted me to this. It was just the sound of waves crashing on the beach. Yeah. Just being piped in, and it just made it feel so cozy and so tropical. It was the. It was the coolest vibe. I was just like this. This is amazing. And it's like, kind of blue, red dark lighting. **Thomas** (00:44:20:07 - 00:44:21:01): Yeah. **Chip** (00:44:21:03 - 00:44:40:23): And it was upscale, but it was fun. It wasn't hoity toity. I guess we were a little underdressed. I felt like even though we were wearing our Hawaiian and some other people were, I was like, oh, are they going to let us in? We're baseball caps or whatever. And they were so nice and so friendly. And then, we, we go to order drinks and the I loved the, the drink menu. **Thomas** (00:44:41:01 - 00:44:41:18): Yeah. **Chip** (00:44:41:20 - 00:45:00:05): It had three levels. Like they're they're not mincing words here. They are not trying to, trick you. They're like, look, here are the three levels. And they even should the way the waitress even told us this, she's like, all right, here are the three levels. In the Shallows was the first level. Then you turn the page and it was the Twilight Zone. And then the third level was the abyss. **Thomas** (00:45:03:03 - 00:45:03:23): Yeah. **Chip** (00:45:04:01 - 00:45:19:21): In the shallows were just some nice tropical drinks. The Twilight Zone. These are heavy hitter drinks. And by the time you get to that third page, the abyss drinks. These are just lights out. Heavy alcohol content. No, no holds barred. **Thomas** (00:45:19:22 - 00:45:33:14): I appreciate it, it. Man. I really did appreciate it. They, detail they broke it down in. And the honesty. It's like this one. You're going to feel a little something. This one you're going to feel a lot. This one you're going to blackout if you have two of them. **Chip** (00:45:33:16 - 00:45:41:17): Exactly. And so so they let us up. And we had already had a couple of drinks to the day. This we're kind of wrapping up our day. So we both stayed in the shallows I believe I did. **Thomas** (00:45:41:17 - 00:45:43:03): It just. **Chip** (00:45:43:05 - 00:45:46:01): I got El Diablo. **Thomas** (00:45:46:03 - 00:45:46:19): Yeah. **Chip** (00:45:46:20 - 00:46:06:08): Which was tequila, raspberry, black currant and that that little heat for El Diablo was fresh ginger. They had fresh ginger in there, which is just. I'll take a ginger drink any day. Moscow mule. Whatever little ginger boom. Felt good. And my favorite part of El Diablo. And this was the fun part. And if you do, you remember this. Do you. **Thomas** (00:46:06:10 - 00:46:07:14): Remember? Yeah I do. **Chip** (00:46:07:16 - 00:46:24:18): She brings us our drinks, she gives you yours, and then she gives me mine. Which is this, like big. Like it was like a goblet. Yeah, it was on the rocks. And she's like. She like, hands it to me, but then takes it away and she's like, if you drink this, it's called El Diablo. It's the devil's name. You have to call out the devil's name. So you have to repeat after me. And she just goes, El Diablo. And the entire bar turned red. **Thomas** (00:46:33:12 - 00:46:33:22): Yeah. **Chip** (00:46:34:03 - 00:46:59:22): So the bartender or somebody was there in waiting when she yells, El diablo! And I yelled El diablo! The lights just go all red like we are in hell. It was. I was like, I'm a grown man. And the pageantry was pageantry. The pageantry was just beautiful and the whole place turned red. People cheered. I got my El Diablo and it was delicious. **Thomas** (00:47:00:00 - 00:47:19:01): And I think there was a hallmark of the whole weekend. Like with goose, the concert we went to, we're talking about next. Every year you don't go to the second Harvard club, you don't wait in line. You don't walk up those stairs and walk into that room to have a bad time. If you're in a bad mood, you stay home or you do something else. Every single person there was vibing. They were so excited to be there. They were passionate about it. They thought it was going to be a fun time. It felt like a little community, like we didn't know the guy sitting next to us, but they were having the time of their lives. **Chip** (00:47:34:14 - 00:47:42:11): They were out of the people in front of us, in line. They just got married and the parents were there. So they're celebrating that. And they were literally. **Thomas** (00:47:42:11 - 00:47:46:14): Their first stop after tying the knot was to leave the venue. **Chip** (00:47:46:15 - 00:47:47:09): I mean, go. **Thomas** (00:47:47:09 - 00:47:53:04): To the second Harvard club with their parents who didn't speak like the most English, but very, very nice. **Chip** (00:47:53:09 - 00:47:54:20): Yes. Yeah. That was. **Thomas** (00:47:54:22 - 00:48:18:07): It was that type of vibe. The community in there was insane. I just remember, like us chatting. We're just like, this is it, like, this is what we want to create. This is what we want the podcast to be about. You take this and add on a floater of comedy, and that's what we're shooting for. We want to create that vibe where people can just come have a great time, relax, focus on the positive stuff and their life. And that's exactly what everybody in there was doing. So I, I don't know, like I one of my favorite, not just tiki bars, but one of my favorite bars I've ever been to in my whole life, the Sunken Harbor Club. It was unbelievable. Yeah. **Chip** (00:48:32:10 - 00:48:42:17): That probably a top five, top five experience. I want to bring the wife up there sometime. Yeah. And we're going to go I, I'm not even going to tell her about it. We're just going to wait in line. She's like, why are we waiting in line for this? I was like, trust me, it's worth it. **Thomas** (00:48:42:19 - 00:48:44:23): Chip, you're full of surprises. **Chip** (00:48:45:01 - 00:48:48:04): Okay. Speaking. Full of surprises. We got to get to this. **Thomas** (00:48:48:06 - 00:48:56:15): Well, before we get to this, I think as we transition, I have a question for you about. Oh. Are you feeling like one today? **Chip** (00:48:56:17 - 00:49:03:23): You know, it was a little cloudy out earlier, and, the sun has come out. I can see through my window. I'm feeling like one right now. **Thomas** (00:49:04:03 - 00:49:05:09): Oh, yeah. Buddy. **Chip** (00:49:05:11 - 00:49:07:09): Putting that low shot of the argon. **Thomas** (00:49:07:11 - 00:49:24:19): Yep. Oh, yeah. And this, this was, also how we started off. I remember you stopped over at my hotel room. Yep. Hung out with, the wife and the baby for a little bit. And before we stepped out into that big, bad city, you were just like, we got to sunscreen up. Dude. **Chip** (00:49:24:21 - 00:49:27:01): I'm nothing if not responsible. **Thomas** (00:49:27:02 - 00:49:46:08): We did it. We slathered it on and really set the tone for the whole day. God, I love that dude. It's it's this, this this Hawaiian Tropic the first time. I mean, I never used it before, but the first time I got it was at an ABC store in Waikiki. The first time I went there. It is just so tied to way for me. Yeah. That exact smell. Got. I'm. I'm feeling it, dude. I'm feeling good. **Chip** (00:49:51:20 - 00:49:53:00): All right, speaking of. Feeling good. **Thomas** (00:49:53:06 - 00:49:54:00): Yeah. **Chip** (00:49:54:02 - 00:49:55:04): So I saw you on Friday. **Thomas** (00:49:55:08 - 00:49:55:21): Yep. **Chip** (00:49:55:23 - 00:50:16:04): And then we get together on Saturday for the event of the weekend of the ages. The reason I was up there for the, to start out with, you and I went to see goose the band goose at Madison Square Garden, my first concert at Madison Square Garden. I've been told about the lore of it, you know. Of course, you know Madison Square Garden. I didn't really buy it. Like, I've been to hundreds of concerts in my day. I was like, what's so special about it? You walk into that room and you're just like, okay, this is a special. This is a special thing, you know? And, so we were there with, two of my fraternity brothers, Brian and Chris, the best dudes we actually saw, my other fraternity brother, Rob, who was there with his two kids. He's bringing his children with them. Yeah, to see the like. That's the vibe. **Thomas** (00:50:41:23 - 00:51:09:03): The vibe of everybody was off the charts, too, like. Yeah. Such. I mean, this is a passionate. There's huge goose. Fans like a meaningful thing in their life. Is this band. And it was so awesome to like, you know, get to experience it with them. Have that energy vibrating off of me like just really set the tone for everything with those guys who have been to a million shows and, and just are part of that community and just so excited to jump back into that, that, environment. **Chip** (00:51:09:05 - 00:51:23:06): So. And I don't want to I don't want to cause any trouble here. I don't want to cause controversy. Or maybe I do. So if you don't know, goose. Goose is, they sort of call themselves. I think they call it, like, indie funk. I think that's what it's. Somebody heard they they wanted to throw out names. France says purposes. I call them a jam band. They're a jam band. Much like, much like fish. That's what they do. I was a big fish fan in college, and so I to this day, sort of. I'm actually going to see fish in a couple of weeks, but, I haven't seen them in, you know, in a while, but I'm going to see them. But they are, a band that. It's just positive vibes. **Thomas** (00:51:41:13 - 00:51:42:02): Yeah. **Chip** (00:51:42:04 - 00:52:02:13): If you're like, if I just said the word jam band and you just shut off the podcast, you're just like, I'm not going to give goose a chance. They are, so much fun, positive, but great music. And I think it's very accessible, too. It's like, yes, they will jam for 15 minutes on something, but I think their songs are like, there's there's a pop element to it. Yeah. Very catchy. Just I've, I went begrudgingly to see goose. Exactly one year before the night we were there, I was at the Mann Music Center, Philadelphia. My buddy Brian, one of my Ferrari brothers, kind of twisted my arm to go. We went and I was blown away, and I just immediately became a fan. And then it was just the other night was just reinforced about like, this was a, this was a spiritual experience that. Yeah, that they, they put on for 4.5 hours. **Thomas** (00:52:33:20 - 00:52:56:06): And I love fandom. I love things people can get excited about, and I love why people would. But like, it was amazing to step into that world because there's a vocabulary. Yep. There's like a shared excitement. There was like, an aspect of what they might see, what they might not see, and people are kind of on the edge of their seat, wait and see what was going to happen. It was it's like a whole thing. And like people have really dissected the experience of going to these types of concerts, and have made it so important and so meaningful to them, aside from the music and liking all that stuff, like everybody I talked to, The goose could have gone out there and just played an off key tuba hit for a while, and I think all these people would have still found something to enjoy about it, just in being together, being excited, seeing this group like there was something a little bigger than a concert that was happening. **Chip** (00:53:30:13 - 00:53:49:03): Yeah, it was it was like it brought me back to my days, like when I was in high school and college and I would go to see Phish and where it it is just this community of, like, people hanging up beforehand. People, getting together like everybody's wearing goose t shirts, but like, they're all wearing, like, their own variety of it, like, because they're, they're like funny shirts or like, you know, the reference to this or that. Yeah. And, so it's and, and a lot of it was a lot of Hawaiians walking around guys and Hawaiians walking around, which was great. But yeah, it is just a commute where like, I mean, as far as I saw no fights, there's no aggression. It's 20,000 people in a room coming together, just ready to get blown away. Yeah, and and just having fun. And, it was just, it it was just that. I'll say this. I was thinking about this as I'm watching the show. Yeah, the goo show the other night. It's. It was the opposite of the internet. That's exactly what it was. Yeah, it was the the if if you are looking for an experience that is the opposite of what the internet brings you in 2025, this is what it was. People aren't really on their phones. I mean, some people taken some pictures or videos or whatever that. **Thomas** (00:54:39:06 - 00:54:43:05): Was while there was so little phone use. I was really surprised. **Chip** (00:54:43:07 - 00:54:49:02): Yeah. And you go to a lot of concerts these days and people are like texting or they're on their phone or their video. It's like. **Thomas** (00:54:49:07 - 00:54:50:00): Yeah. **Chip** (00:54:50:01 - 00:55:05:23): We are here for this experience. Let's put that all the way. There's everybody's just here in person. Nobody's on one side or the other. They're not fighting, they're not angry, they're not getting outraged. They're not flipping through videos of like, some Karen getting arrested. **Thomas** (00:55:06:02 - 00:55:06:07): Yeah. **Chip** (00:55:06:07 - 00:55:38:21): We're people screaming at each other. It was it was the exact opposite of the internet of just 20,000 of us are going to come together in this one room and just dance like nobody's watching. Yeah, and have a blast. And goose just brought a show. So there are reports. I don't know how official it is, but there are people saying that it was the it set the record for the longest single artist performance in Madison Square Garden history. I played they they started at 750. So I think it was a 730 show. They started officially at 750. They went so. So they did two sets. You know, they had the intermission. So the intermission, I don't know, 20 minutes, I forget, and then, you know, a little break before the encore. But they got off stage at 12:29 a.m., so they went from 750 until basically 1230 and a lot of. **Thomas** (00:56:04:17 - 00:56:06:00): Jam and chip. **Chip** (00:56:06:02 - 00:56:22:00): A lot of jam it. At one point, it was as if they were assaulting us with music. Like it was just like. Like they had a point to prove, I think. Yeah, the other night. And they prove that point. They were just like, I thought the show was over at one point, and then they went another 45 minutes and it was. And it was great. Like it was just clients. No, it was just they just kept going and they kept the energy up. They kept the vibe up. They brought that horn section out a couple of times. Great horn section. And and just had a blast. They did a bunch of covers. Yeah. Camila, I'm a dingdong. They did Kate Bush running up that hill, which is great. Cover a couple others. Oh, what a great town. What a great team. And, they made it their own. And it was just the best. And then just everybody leaving? **Thomas** (00:56:50:13 - 00:56:51:00): Yeah. **Chip** (00:56:51:00 - 00:57:10:13): Madison Square Garden at 1230 at night. Just nobody like, flip it over. Cars causing trouble. Set. In fact, it was just like, we just had the best time. Were kind of exhausted. But we are, we're loving life. And you could just. It was that positive vibe. And that's kind of what I like to go for my comedy. And it's just like, I just want fun, nice people there. Like, if you're going to be a dick, if you're there to be an asshole, like, I don't, I don't need you at my show. Do you know anything? Like, it's like, I just want fun people to be here that are in on it, that are that are having a good time. And we escaped reality for about 5 or 6 hours that night. Oh, oh. And then I felt bad too. I was there with again with my buddies, Chris and Brian and their friend Kush. You were relegated to another section. We didn't get to sit together because the tickets, you sat with my friend James Heskey, former comedian, very funny guy of of Queens, New York. Yeah. And you got the full Heskey experience. **Thomas** (00:57:52:11 - 00:58:02:06): I hope I do get the full house gig spirit I loved it. I well, I mean, I love hanging out with comedians. Like, first of all, I'm like a former comedian. He hasn't got up on stage for a while. I think he still has that itch. **Chip** (00:58:02:08 - 00:58:05:00): He's still funny. I think he still has it. And so one of the things. **Thomas** (00:58:05:02 - 00:58:16:21): He went back to school, he was focused on, on some stuff. We have been talking about it like it's just a super funny guy. Like I love hanging out with them. I'm like in, you're really just done. Like you're not going to. And he's like, yeah, I don't know. **Chip** (00:58:16:23 - 00:58:31:10): Yeah. See I like that little little just like just you know, album in the ribs about it, you know. Yeah. And that was my favorite thing too because it was like just fun because it's like I'm bringing my worlds together. It's like some college friends and friends, some TV friends. And it's like, are they going to get along? Are they going to do it? And it was like, everybody, I think, just vibed and had the best time and it was just like that. That is such a payoff to me, like bringing these worlds together. Now it's like, oh, you guys are friends and they're talking and then like, they're going to get together. And it's just we made some connections this weekend. Thomas. And yeah, we networked. We networked non business wise. Do you know I mean we we did some networking for life. **Thomas** (00:58:56:07 - 00:59:00:01): That's for network life for life. And dude. **Chip** (00:59:00:01 - 00:59:03:04): I just we didn't we didn't network. We net fund is what we. **Thomas** (00:59:03:05 - 00:59:08:05): Yes we met vacationed we met vacationed. It's not networking. **Chip** (00:59:08:05 - 00:59:09:06): Oh yeah. **Thomas** (00:59:09:08 - 00:59:34:01): It's vacationing and just laid the ground for the vibe we want to bring in to chance to see in Paradise. Yeah. This Thanksgiving I was so inspired. I remember sitting there as much as, like, I loved the music and everything else. I just had these visions. I was like, this is the vibe we're shooting for that. We're going to bring you this event in Hawaii to a whole week regardless. Like we truly hope, a bunch of people come with us who have this. The shared goal of just having an unbelievable week. But at the very least, it's just like we're going to have it way, way more friends that are already coming. Yeah. To Thanksgiving, Paradise changes. So we're at least going to have that level of fun. Plus, we're going to be in Hawaii and we're going to be there for, you know, close to a week, dude. Yeah. **Chip** (01:00:01:13 - 01:00:03:09): We're going to bring that goose vibe. **Thomas** (01:00:03:12 - 01:00:04:15): That's heading. **Chip** (01:00:04:16 - 01:00:05:13): To the island. **Thomas** (01:00:05:15 - 01:00:26:07): And you know, nobody's going to be there to have a bad time. Everybody's coming there. They're putting a little some cash on the line. They're making plans. They're taking like their holiday days off to use for this experience and one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The weather's going to be phenomenal when it's not phenomenal almost anywhere else. **Chip** (01:00:26:13 - 01:00:26:20): **Thomas** (01:00:27:18 - 01:00:47:18): And all of those things are on top of the baseline. We kind of had it this goose thing. We had a great event we were going for. It's going to be your stand up show. We explored Manhattan to the nth degree. We went on that tiki bar tour. We walked all over the place. And then we hung out with new friends. **Chip** (01:00:47:20 - 01:00:48:03): Yeah. **Thomas** (01:00:48:08 - 01:01:07:18): You know, and just like, you can just feel it, like bonds getting formed, little spiritual families getting formed just in the name of having a great time and sharing some shared passions and an interesting place. Like, that's it. That's what I want to do with my time on this earth is trying to have as many experiences like that as possible. **Chip** (01:01:07:23 - 01:01:08:05): Yeah. **Thomas** (01:01:08:05 - 01:01:17:10): And it's just I'm just so excited that that's what we are doing with this ball this year, building up to that with this podcast. **Chip** (01:01:17:12 - 01:01:18:08): I don't know. **Thomas** (01:01:18:10 - 01:01:20:02): Unbridled enthusiasm for. **Chip** (01:01:20:02 - 01:01:32:22): Me. I don't want to pull the curtain up too much, but there are talks that you and I might try to do some tiki bar tours in some other cities and maybe bring some friends along. **Thomas** (01:01:32:23 - 01:01:40:00): Oh, absolutely. Like, that's that's definitely how it was just so fun. It was such an interesting way to see a city. **Chip** (01:01:40:02 - 01:01:40:20): Yeah. **Thomas** (01:01:40:22 - 01:01:52:22): And there's like, just like we ran into the nicest, most friendly people and had a good time and, you know, and we had, we got to have a little buzz. We got to have a little buzz for basically a whole Friday. **Chip** (01:01:53:00 - 01:01:53:19): Exactly. **Thomas** (01:01:54:01 - 01:02:00:07): And I was I was home completely sober for dinner. **Chip** (01:02:00:09 - 01:02:04:05): Yeah. It we we timed that buzz perfectly. **Thomas** (01:02:04:07 - 01:02:16:14): It was a really nice time. But yeah. No, we'll definitely do some more of that. It was just such a fun experience. And, Yeah. Well, we'll we'll figure it out. We've got it. We can expand it, make it a little bigger, bring some other folks along. **Chip** (01:02:16:15 - 01:02:17:15): Yep. **Thomas** (01:02:17:17 - 01:02:26:04): Maybe find different ways to capture it. I don't know, but like that, that there's some times in your life where you're just like. That's a thing that felt like a thing for us. **Chip** (01:02:26:06 - 01:02:27:05): Absolutely. Yeah. **Thomas** (01:02:27:05 - 01:02:30:05): We have crushed it on time. We have just been chugging along. **Chip** (01:02:30:06 - 01:02:33:12): We are like goose at Madison Square Garden. We have passed curfew. **Thomas** (01:02:33:14 - 01:02:37:17): Yes. And that means we only got 45 minutes left. So buckle up. **Chip** (01:02:37:19 - 01:02:40:17): Here we go into the jam. **Thomas** (01:02:40:19 - 01:02:43:13): Okay, Matt, we'll do it. It was so good hanging out this weekend. **Chip** (01:02:43:13 - 01:02:44:07): Such a high time. **Thomas** (01:02:44:09 - 01:03:13:00): Unbelievable time. Chip Chantry Thanksgiving in Paradise.
